Still on the story that Cohen was in Prague in the summer of 2016: Lots of alternatives here, including spoofing and missing cell phones.
BONUS PARANOIA: Suppose Russian Intelligence decided to exploit Hillary's paranoia and opportunism by spoofing a meeting with Cohen, hoping to spark a Obama-approved investigation of his political opposition with resulting finger-pointing, division, and de-legitimization. Mission Accomplished!
In fairness to Gowdy and Goodlatte, Congress is a toothless tiger when it comes to investigating things, "
Congress (republicans in Congress, anyway) are toothless because they choose to be. They have the tools to force answers and to exact some measure of pubishment and they simply refuse to use them. To hell with h the lot of them.

Agree completely, Jane.
I am working my way through Philbrick's trilogy on our founding. One comes away impressed with how less than a majority of the Colonists came to be so unified (but not all for sure) against the British in the end, and for that we can be grateful to the leaders of the revolution scattered as they were throughout the colonies as they found the words and actions to nurture the seeds of our founding.
BUT...they were always a group though small at first, and they always had their band of brothers to refine their ideas and guide their aspirations, to mold the fuse and then to light it, and then to collect their forces and execute it to the end.
Which brings me to today, and the image which comes to my mind is that iconic picture of Trump, barnstorming the country in the summer of 2016, alone in his personal giant airplane.
Trump would have been a great Founder back in the day. But neither he nor any of them could have pulled it off alone. Boy do I wish he had a dozen top tier, armed and dangerous, apostles to support his efforts on our behalf.

What punishment has any Congress delivered in the past? Good luck trying to find anything. The most significant thing they did was put Ollie North under oath and inadvertently shove Macy's Christmas tree up Lawrence Walsh's ass due to double jeopardy in Iran Contra.

Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally. They can’t. If we had a Wall, they wouldn’t even try! The two.....
..children in question were very sick before they were given over to Border Patrol. The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn’t given her water in days. Border Patrol needs the Wall and it will all end. They are working so hard & getting so little credit!

Yesterday my wife called me at work to say there is a barred owl sitting in a tree in our backyard in the middle of the day. Today I was sitting in the kitchen having lunch when I heard some sort of bird making a godawful racket of a sort that I have never heard before. Turned out to be a red-tailed hawk harassing that same barred owl. Both about 40 feet from our back door about 6 to 10 feet off the ground. The hawk kept it up for about 5 minutes--sounded like a car alarm going off. The owl was clearly annoyed, but the hawk flew off eventually. The owl hung around for another 20 minutes or so, in plain view, and then flew off. Very cool.

Hi, Jim (sunnyvaleCA)--yes, I think I answered before but you may have missed it. You're right about the definition of habiliment--clothing appropriate to a role/vocation--but I used it metaphorically to refer to the "clothing" of mind any given person takes on over the years because of personality/temperament/personal history. Sort of a Sartor Resartus kind of meaning (not to start THAT up again!).

2018 is being called “THE YEAR OF THE WORKER” by Steve Moore, co-author of “Trumponomics.” It was indeed a great year for the American Worker with the “best job market in 50 years, and the lowest unemployment rate ever for blacks and Hispanics and all workers. Big wage gains.”
Posted by: MissMarple2 | December 29, 2018 at 04:12 PM
Now that I too look up pileated woodpecker, it takes me back 18 years to when I bought this farm. I was awakened on fine Sunday morning by a pileated Woodpecker doing it’s thing on my sheet metal chimney cap. Repeatedly. As I live in a hexagonal log cabin (the logs themselves are normal round things) which approximates the acoustics of a drum, I did not need this at 5 am. DNR regs... can’t shoot it. Spent an hour throwing rocks at it before it got a clue. I’ll never watch Woody Woodpecker again.
Posted by: henry | December 29, 2018 at 04:16 PM
Funny, henry. A slingshot, perhaps? We have ladderback woodpeckers here which are also very pretty but like to make holes in the house. I have to run out several dozen times a year to try to chase them away--need an owl!
Posted by: Catsmeat | December 29, 2018 at 04:22 PM
Slingshot? Well the DNR was very clear about not killing woodpeckers. That rules out a slingshot. I threw rocks at the bird knowing I would miss (soccer player, no aim with arm). I think a freight train class air horn would work.
Posted by: henry | December 29, 2018 at 04:27 PM
Good afternoon! Our house in northern Maine had a large double lot. One side of the yard had a couple of old apple trees that produced some very sickly apples. We were finally forced to cut them when a pileated woodpecker pecked a hole so large in one of the trees that it cracked. There was a *literal* pile of sawdust under the tree. :)

I have feeders outside that are less than 2' from my windows, and have often watched woodpeckers from this distance. They use their tongues to locate and aim at what they're pecking, I guess since their eyes are looking left and right and not straight ahead. They don't seem to peck at things that aren't food, so if they're pecking a house there's probably an insect problem. I know I've read that they don't eat wood.

Somewhere in my iPhone movie files, I have short clip of a woodpecker in my Belgian FIL's back lawn trying to get to a little sparrow, who was ensconced in a wood birdhouse on one of the white birches. He was pecking to enlarghe e the entry hole of the birdhouse. The little sparrow was terrified.
I did the same as Henry and threw rocks, sticks, stones, and an old hammer I found in the poolhouse. Took a while but he left. But a squirrel showed up to take his place but soon climbed off when he saw he would never fit into the opening.
Folks, we hit 80F today in JAX, now around 74F on the beach in The Hammock. Frederick and Momma going for a swim. I am having a cocktail and watching:)

We are a 50/50 country, not a 60/40 one. The Senate should reflect that.
The Senate stopped resembling what the Founders intended with the passing of the 17th amendment (caused in part by fake news) and became in effect 100 extra House members with six year terms. Instead of being free of the pressures of being popularly elected, they were even bigger pandering jackholes than their House counterparts. Accordingly all the hoary old rules of the Senate should have immediately become null and void. There is nothing special about that gaggle of bloviating shitheads.
