Since daddy had posted about the jazz standard, Cherokee, I thought I would link John McLaughlin, in his pre-Mahavishnu Orchestra days playing Cherokee on the Tonight Show.

Even I was finally convinced that Flake was in fact a doofus Flake.

Maryrose FTW! Now about Paul Ryan... :)

I think Little Tom should take over the WEAKLY STANDARD. He could insult everyone like a tree falling in the woods.

Comey testified he had read the original Flynn 302?

Why didn't Mueller turn it over today when he was ordered to?

Did you know - Mueller's deputy Andrew Weissman destroyed draft 302s in the Enron case, a fact which I bring up for no particular reason

MissMarple2

Flynn also has book royalties. DOn't know how much.

When I stack up the abuses Mueller let occur in the FBI vs. Flynn's supposed infraction, I cannot see Mueller as a white hat. I am prepared to be surprised at every turn in this on-going fiasco, but so far I have seen no evidence that Mueller is on our side.

In fact, right now I would like to see the FBI disbanded except for the fingerprint and forensic labs. What does it say that they do not video tape interviews, but rely on the agents' memories to file a written report?

Tom R

Resorting to name calling me a prog does nothing to make your argument stronger.

When you act like a progressive you get compared to a progressive.

hrtshpdbox

i don't say much if anything.

You just pass out photos of Trump and wait for the howling to begin! Good show; we don't get to see our family often enough, it's important to skewer the damn liberals when we have the chance.

Captain Hate

Wow, peter, thanks for linking that incredible performance. That was from 1985 so post Mahivishnu.

Flynn's sister was the source, Tom R, and I figure she knows.

Thanks, Clarice. I was wondering about that number when I read your piece, too. Do you know if she wrote this in an article or a tweet or said it in an interview?

Thanks for all advice and bravado about dealing with my wife's side of the family in public places when it comes to their Trump bashing.

you know me. i won't say shit if i have a mouthful.

seriously.

i can outshout, outargue, outfact, outdebate them all.

to what end?

hurt my wife's feelings, upset the younger member of the family, spend three days after the fact explaining why what happened happened.

no thanks. Pyrrhic victories with family members i abandoned long ago--- in the 80s when Reagan was president.

i leave it to asking questions they can't answer. and leave it at that. the grownups don't like questions they can't answer satisfactorily, or when the follow up is "where did you hear that?"

that's why i said "i don't say much at all."

as for BIL, i heard he is going to apologize for what he said after 3 drinks. that will be private and i'll have the better of that.

sometimes it is better not to throw the brick at the beehive.

interrupting them is better than blowing up the dinner table, exerting needless energy not "letting that crap stand."

carry on then! :D

matt - deplore me if you must

Shouldn't the tranny be on Drag Race rather that Ms. Universe?

Flake's level of self involvement rivals only McCain's. What a douche.

Somewhere there is a document that all of the major news outlets and op/ed writers signed in blood in the middle of a full moon and sealed with batshit that pledges their loyalty to the #Resistance. It's all the same, all the time.

As we read about Moonves and Weinstein and Spacey and Rose and 50 other radical chic assholes and their sexual assaults somehow DJT gets singled out not only for paying for it, but then for paying for the discretion of the "ladies".

The, the FBI tramples all over attorney/client privilege with El Sleazo and he flips, giving them what they already had anyway. And somehow this is news.

It's not a double standard, even. It is a nontuple, 50ouple standard.

These freaks are generally walking free while Trump is pilloried every day for being a generous John. I wonder how many of the freak in the media and Congress simply had transactional relationships with working girls?

Let's pry that info out of Congress. If nothing else it's a good start.

Thanks for the McLaughlin link, Peter. haven't hard him in a long time. A virtuoso.

Saw him with Mahavishnu way back when. It was very dense and loud. Preferred him on the stereo where I could modulate the volume.

One guy I saw at the Bottom Line who was fabulous was Sun Ra and his Arkestra. Surprisingly inventive, but very melodic at times.

The whole fusion thing was an interesting experiment, but devolved into Kenny G. There is a special space in Hell's shopping mall for much of his stuff. The guy with the flugelhorn would be on that same playlist.

He resorts to putting false labels on people when the facts get in the way of his desperate attempts to beat us and be right about the Mueller fake and phony investigation.
He twists the facts to fit his narrative and keeps asking the same questions over and over that have already been answered multiple times by multiple posters. He will never admit that he made a mistake or could be wrong about something.

I need some of the ambulance chasers here to tell me why Cohen dropping accusations about DJT on national television isn't getting roundly condemned by whatever so called ethical bodies exist in the profession. I don't remember David Kendall, for example, saying anything negative about Slick. Or Dershowitz saying anything private between him and OJ or Von Bulow. But Cohen can just natter away about his former client as if that's a perfectly normal thing to do.

One theory is that Flynn purposely fell into McCabe's trap in order to set his own. It seems unlikely, to say the least.

Well, on Tuesday we'll hear from Emmet Sullivan, and it's possible that Emmet Sullivan will nuke McCabe, Comey and Mueller himself, all as a result of the Flynn case.

A fact according to "Stahl", but so far i haven't found a specific citation of Flynn paying $3million in legal fees, Tom R.

"“Most people have no idea how expensive top flight representation costs in white-collar cases,” Robert Stahl, a criminal defense attorney and a former assistant U.S. Attorney, told Fox News.

Stahl said experienced attorneys generally charge between $700 to more than $1,000 an hour, often with multiple attorneys working on the case. Many top tier attorneys charge a minimum of $3 million or more for a complex federal white-collar trial, he said."

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/flynn-selling-home-under-mounting-legal-bills-as-mccabe-racks-up-cash-online-to-pay-lawyers

and, as of a year ago this: "On Saturday, Joseph Flynn, tweeted, “We woke up to a huge outpouring of love and support” for the effort. That same day, another brother, Jack Flynn, retweeted a claim that the retired general faces more than $1 million in legal bills."

hrtshpdbox

..in mobster lingo, a ‘rat’ is a witness who tells prosecutors real incriminating info.

In the dictionary, though, it's just "a person regarded as despicable, especially a man who has been deceitful or disloyal." That fits Cohen pretty well.

I did not interview Ms Silvergate, Flynn's sister. The statement was in a published report which Google does not list .(It's not liking or linking lots of stuff these days). My notes are at home where I cannot retrieve them . Ms Silvergate is on twitter..you might want to search there or contact her to verify the quote. A long time ago she was reported as saying the fees mounted to over $2million (even Google has that) so the claim that she now says it's $3 million seems highly probably true.

Back a thread or two, I noted that both the 4d-chess and anti-4D-chess factions have in common that they do NOT propose that we-duh-people take actions to support Trump ... other than keeping informed, perhaps contributing money, and voting.

I saw a few reactions:
Iggy agreed it was a valid point
kk mentioned a couple of activities he engages in
someone challenged "well, what SHOULD we be doing?"

Additionally:
maryrose is active in local Repub politics
sbw pushes back on the AP regularly
clarice, TM and RG write articles
Janet (it's said) is active in charitable endeavors

When I first wrote the post I was thinking of someone (MissM?) saying that if THEY tried to push out Trump our side would erupt. I wonder. Maybe keyboards would heat up, but would any notable pushback occur? Would the coup plotters be able to simply brush past us?

That was my original thought but now that the topic is in my mind, I'd like to build a list of activities that can be taken.

Personally, I think of the Repubs as undependable. I don't feel called to walk precincts, make calls or donate money to the Party. None of those made my list.

kk mentioned participating in an effort to fight back against "vote harvesting". And that triggered the thought that it would be good to be an election poll worker. If "we" had enough people serving at voting stations we'd have a much better chance to document and oppose illegal voting.

So, I now have one activity, though a bit slow and indirect.

Other suggestions of activities that can be taken to help Trump?

And, as a separate topic, what would you do if coup-plotters used their power to brazenly remove Trump from office under some flimsy MSM-hyped offense? It seems certain that Dems will push the envelope on this in upcoming months though presumably they will not precipitate a crisis.

I don’t understand the magic of the $3 million. Go up or down by an order of magnitude and what changes? As far as I can tell, nothing. The Infamous Ignatz

Nobody has to accept anyone's assertion only based on trust, because we're all fallible.

No do I think anyone is claiming there is any magic number in the $3 million, only that it was a new number and it is natural to wonder where it came from.

And, since it does appear Flynn has a legal defense fund seems to me the amount matters a great deal.

clarice

Under the old Special Prosecutor law, the govt was compelled to pay the legal fees of those they charged and failed to convict. No such provision in the new statute although it might be possible under some equitable common law provision.

henry

Clarice, that explains the manufactured process crime convictions.

James D.

And, since it does appear Flynn has a legal defense fund seems to me the amount matters a great deal.

The amount should be zero since the entire thing is a sham (for which we are paying, lucky us). For me it starts and ends there, and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise.

Extraneus

What he should do is take the money from the prosecutors personally. He can't and won't so I'd settle for jail time for all of them.

I think it's safe to assume we'd all settle for that. :-)

The number might be relevant if Judge Sullivan cites it in his excoriation of McCabe, Comey, Yates, Mueller & Co.

"Look what you f'n creeps put this guy through!" Translated into legalese, of course.

clarice

No consequences, Henry, and career advancement.

clarice

I don't have a problem with people asking where the figure came from. I'm just frustrated that my notes are hundreds of miles away and I cannot retrieve the source, and that both google and duck duck are failing to report accurately more and more important information. It used to me that I could google by name my articles to see who had referenced them. No longer. Even putting the name in quotes leads to countless misses and even more unrelated garbage. I do not think this is accidental--my sources are largely online conservative if you get my drift.

From the defense fund website run by Flynn's sister:

The costs of legal representation associated with responding to the multiple investigations that have arisen in the wake of the 2016 election place a great burden on Mike and his family. They are deeply grateful for considering a donation to help pay expenses relating to his legal representation.

https://mikeflynndefensefund.org/

Arguing about a dollar amount for the purposes of proving whether or not Flynn is a willing participant in 4D shenanigans is irrelevant when the statement above, which remains unchallenged by Flynn, portrays a person who is now under a "great burden."

Maybe his sister is part of the Kabuki to keep all of us mystified?

Right now the only evidence we have is that Flynn is under a great burden because of the legal calamity. There is no quote out there to refute this, so quit chasing dollar ammounts.

Miss M,

Really enjoyed that extended AppReader rant on East Germany. You're right---that was a literary quality bit o' word-smithing. His 'up from the tracks" praise for getting 3 squares and a clean rack in the Army Barracks reminds me from years and years back how on a Detachment to Panama from the Philippines to work aircraft carriers off Nicaragua under Reagan, me and "Doc " Mahoney, (former Bush pilot who's wife had run off with a Doctor), were given 6 troops to do this 4 month mission. I recall one of the troops, young Worley, was a heck of a problem child, precisely the "wrong side of the Tracks" type as this guy, but Doc (ex-Vietnam theater A-4 jock) made it his mission to take this kid under his wing and turn him into something proud and confident and decent, and damned if he didn't do it by the time we headed back home. That was wondrous to watch!
