My nieces went to that school. As a birthright Friend, I would recommend the father be shunned as an unreformable asshat.

People are crying over that 8-year-old girl's loss. I'm serious. Go to the link at your own risk.

Oh, and if you don't?

Morales was declared vice president of her class, giving her the ability to serve as a tie-breaker between the House and Senate, and she will hold meetings with the class president.

Get off your hind legs, Hillary, and go sit down. Think seriously about your life and what it has amounted before planting your pathetic sucker pod of a soul onto the back of a third grader.

She's innocent. Filled with light. You are a walking cadaver. Shoo!

People are crying over that 8-year-old girl's loss.

Well what gets me is that we already have this:

Father of Deceased Migrant Girl Says Border Patrol Did All They Could...Guatemalan Consul Tekandi Paniagua tells CNN’s @edlavaCNN he met extensively with the father of 7-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin Friday night in El Paso. Paniagua says the father of Jakelin has “no complaints about how Border Patrol agents treated him and his daughter.”

Yet we have reporters who travel all those thousands of miles away to Guatemala, dig up the distant relatives, yet somehow neglect to tell them what the father on location has already concluded about the situation. Instead they happily play this story as their lead:

CNN: Thousands of miles away, grieving family wants to know how 7-year-old girl died in US custody

It never ends.

Jack is Back!

When I was in 3rd grade at The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, in Southampton, our biggest brouha-ha was not for class President but who got honors to pick first for the baseball game. Not only that but my best friend Al, who owns one of our large plumbing companies, complained that the batt had a Richie Ashburn grip and it allowed me to cover the butt end and win the first pick.

By the way, we won that game because we only had one ball, and after my other friend Eddie hit a homerun over the fence, some guy's dog grabbed it and ran away with it. 5-3 no ball.

daddy

Oops.I thought you were talking about the 7 year old dead Guatemalan gal, not the 8 year old Hillary wanna be.

People are crying over that 8-year-old girl's loss.

On the plus side, the boy who won might someday change genders, which would render all of their sexist angst and sexist anger superfluous .

Pinandpuller

Could Mueller's grudge against Trump go back to the National Golf Club in Sterling,VA? First ive heard of that. He wears a white golf cap.

henry

Why would they want to? Probably are Episcopalian already.

Kev, very few of the staff or students of a modern Friends School are members of the Religious Society of Friends. The ratio has declined since the 1960’s to where the label “Friends” has no meaning beyond private any longer. By the 90s, proto SJWs adopted a cartoon version of our beliefs focused on “pacifism” and “unanimous consent” that have nothing to do with tending the inner light of our fellows. I saw it in grad school when the Organizational Behavior department PhD students set up a field trip to the Cleveland Meeting House. I was in that seminar, but refused to go... the prof (from India) was not pleased when I exposed her crapola.

Account Deleted

JiB, your story reminds me.

we had park ball games across the street from where i grew up in Califas. during the summer the games would go on "tied" for days.

we learned that if a dog ran off with the ball, we'd be chasing that sumbeench all day to get it back.

also learned that dog spit can dissolve old threads in just a few hours of chase. first batter to connect, once play was restored, would make that cover splat like a banana's peel.

good times.

The Infamous Ignatz

I didn't read this story because who the hell cares and worse, it's Hahvahd, but I did love the title juxtaposed with the picture they used;

BTW, in case Lyle is lurking, I am sitting outside in the dark by a lighted patio and pool, drinking a very nice 2010 Chateau Franke Mayne from St. Emilion. Friend of my BIL owns the vineyard. Regarding Mega McCannz badmouthing McSally, first of all she was retweeting something her husband initially sent. Second, there are a few members of the Horde from Arizona who are less than enamored with McSally after her loss to Kyrsten Sinema, claiming she ran a terrible campaign and should just go away.

Jack is Back!

HBR, the light at the end of the tunnel, and its the 3:08 out of Tulsa with a belly full of coal:)

Catsmeat

Thanks, Jack, for the Raj recommendations--I will look at them but more to the point I will make sure they were all on Rachel's lists (grad lists she had to read--if she's missing something good, I need to make sure she knows about them).

As for "Oh brother"--the comma or the non-comma is entirely a question of what effect the writer is after. I think it registers disgust better without the comma (appropriate disgust here, since we're talking about boys having periods, which they don't, and the prevailing cultursmog pressure to pretend they do) .

henry

Ig:

aint no one gonna tie that goat.

and, 2) this sounds like a finding from a Hillary or Obama focus group in March 2016---

"Some research has reported that being overconfident while participating in a group activity did not damage the person’s reputation.

Individuals who had acted confident about their task performance, but were later revealed to be worse at the task than they had claimed, did not suffer a severe drop in their social status in the group relative to someone who had been well-calibrated.

The researchers concluded that “the status benefits of overconfidence outweighed any possible status costs”.

I agree, Ext. Long time McLaughlin fan here, though I haven't had a record player now to play my old albums of his on for 30-40 years. Saw him once in college, probably 1975, from about 3 feet off the stage, but thankfully didn't get tinnitus until 2009.

And Michelle Odious is THAT smart?

Yes, she is so smart that after Obama won and they were headed to DC she left that $375K a year Hospital job, and because she had solved so many problems there there were none left needing anymore solving, so they eliminated her position. That's how smart she is!

He is on the board of the 'Military Religious Freedom Foundation'

They sue & sue & sue & hunt down Christian anything in our military. Then they sue some more.
It seems like they pretty much call the shots at the Air Force Academy.

Thanks, narciso!!--I loved the whole M. M. Kaye Raj trilogy, though I was a dewy-eyed figure in my twenties (my student was reeled into her interest that way too). But I learned things from them, romance genre though they be--but I learned even more from Peter Hopkins (The Great Game and all the sequels, up to Stalin), and perhaps even more from Kipling, who was of course actually THERE.

Yes particularly the short stories have a lot of material, I got on a kipling kick some years ago in part because of an appearance in one of Arthur c Clarke last series, which featured a Kipling displaced into our near future.

Narciso79

How do you evaluate a novel as a thesis, is it subject matter, fidelity to period detail,

Pinandpuller

"Pain don't hurt"-Dalton

Catsmeat

Short answer, narciso--I don't. Her advisor and the other committee members matter here, and they would just be glad of my pointing out any factual problems, which I'll do if I find any, but really they are judging it as a work of art (which of course I am also totally competent to judge, but that's not really why I'm there, though they'll listen to me, if I have any issues--my colleagues are actually great if you don't talk politics with them, which I never do). Sorry for the muddled writing.

The Infamous Ignatz

Man tran from earlier;

--So, is there an inviolate rule that we are forbidden to correct the terminal state of this once great republic with the benefit of our 2nd Amendment until a sufficient number of us are fired upon?

If the proper recourse of the justice system is inop, what may we be allowed to use as a signal to know if now is the time? If not now, when?--

History shows there is no way of knowing. And it also shows things can't be forced.
Watch and wait.

Narciso79

That's fine I just thought it might be a challenge, most of the stuff that comes out of creative writing like Jonathan Franzen gag

clarice

Horrible story, but they have it backwards.
