"Trump threatened to keep the government closed for 'months or even years,' Schumer says."
I suggested last week that Trump lay off an additional 5,000 Fed Employees each week during the shutdown, and that he announce that any retroactive pay from the shutdown be funded from, and only from, a real surplus for the current fiscal year, if any.
From DaveMA, willowed on last thread, regarding the Trump Wall
"My problem with the gofundme for the wall is that it's what we pay taxes for--defense--one of the few legitimate things that the government is supposed to be doing with what they take away from us."
Good point.
I donated and urge others to donate. But with these further thoughts:
1) Only donate a small amount, perhaps $5 or at most $20. They stipulate that they will return funds if the total does not reach $1B.
The total will never reach $1B so you "should" get your money back.
2) Consider donating as Anonymous if you can conceivably be tracked by SJWs. They might hit your boss with complaints, put in bad reviews for your business, post vile garbage on your FaceBook,....

"...when the schools get all the money they need..."
Pick ANY public school district in the country.
Divide the total cost of running that school district by the actual number of students really enrolled for one year. (The answers will be in the mid to high teens per student.)
Multiply that per student cost by, say, 30 or whatever the average class size in that district is.
That is the amount paid by the taxpayers to educate just one single classroom of students.
You will find answers in the half million dollar per class range. Subtract the cost of one teacher, then 'splain to me what happened to all the rest of the money...
OL, You left out administrators, assistant administrators, deputy assistant administrators, diversity officers, diversity and inclusion officers, deputy assistant diversity and inclusion officers, and the pensions thereof for each.
Take that calculated cost of teaching one classroom of 30 students and divide that total cost by the sum of all the SAT scores of each group of 30 graduating seniors (using zero for those not taking the test).
Compare that public school cost paid per SAT point earned to a similar metric for any private or catholic school in the same county.
'splain that difference to me too, and 'splain how that will get better with more money and fewer bombers.
I have a question... Trump has mentioned in several recent tweets that there are 250+ political appointees being held up by Schumer, and of course this is 2 years into his term and outrageous. (These are the people who are above the civil service employees, but below the cabinet secretaries that you've heard of.)
So for the question: what happens if Trump fires all 250+ Obama holdovers in those positions as of 5pm EST today? Is there some downside that I'm missing?
If nothing else it might cut the deficit for a bit...
Yesterday was a red letter day for both Old Lurkers in learning to deal with businesses adapting to workers with average IQs of 80.
I got a notice from Verizon FIOS that my current bundle deal had expired and if I would renew, I could save $50 bucks a month.
Mrs. OL had a followup appointment with her ortho guy who scoped her tennis knee last month.
She left for the doctor, and I started at the Verizon web site.
She returned three hours later, just as I was finished with Verizon...I told her of my travels through "you can do this on our website with no waiting" escapades, and we laughed about the true idiots and systems I had encountered in making just one simple change: "I want to renew my current package...that is all." We also laughed at their obligatory final question "is there anything else I can help you with today Mr. Old?"
Then I said, what took YOU so long, did he keep you waiting? No, he didn't but his staff did. I entered the waiting room exactly on time and signed in at the window. After 20 minutes I had not been called, so I went to the window and asked. "Oh, you are here to see the doctor?" Yes, I signed in right here, see? "Well you have to fill out all these forms..." No, I filled all those forms out on your website as requested by the email you sent me. "Oh, well we also need you to fill them out on paper." Really, the exact same forms? "yes" She took the clipboard and sat down to start, and after two pages went back to the window. "Excuse me, these form are exactly the same forms I filled out six weeks ago when I came to see the doctor the first time. Same forms, same answers exactly." Well, mamm, that was in 2018 and now it is 2019 and we require you complete all the forms again for the new year... Eventually she saw the doctor for ten minutes to be told "looks good to me."

Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Will Hurd (R-TX), John Katko (R-NY), Pete King (R-NY), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Fred Upton (R-MI) and Greg Walden (R-OR).
Check out her opening speech from yesterday. Looks so heavily botoxed she can't blink. has this gnome-like chortle going on too whenever she hears applause.
The real killer was her statement on how "this congress" would proceed in a "prayerful manner."
and by term's end how many abortions will have been completed. she's a sick f*ck.
I listened to part of the presser driving down to Flagler Beach. Very adversarial especially by two or three femail reporters. But Trump kept his cool, and just gave them TMI as they struggled to fill their notebooks with "wonderful", "huge", "most successful". He is a master of creating confusion by speaking in common words, and to the people not the press. They like the Dems still can't figure him out.
I never heard that kind of Gotcha, adversarial kind of questions for Zippy. Of course, even with softballs he would spend 20 minutes answering a quesition about his favorite tie.
Susan Collins and Cory Gardner are Republicans who are up for re-election in 2020 in states that Trump lost. I'll be surprised if she runs for re-election. Remember, she is the only Republican Senator/Congressperson left in New England.
I know from a certain source that she was stung badly by the threats she received during the Kavanaugh sh*t show.
Alexandria "I can't afford an apartment" Ocasio Cortez and her cast of clowns are going to be interesting to watch. The NY Post is already going after her and she is already threatening the Democratic Party's biggest donors with doubling their taxes.
Hank Johnson is still trying to find out if Guam has capsized while calling for impeachment and the nutter from Tennessee wants to eliminate the Electoral College while others are moving for impeachment. All. on. day. one.
The Circus is in town!
Ladies and gerbils, step this way to the Midway! A mere Semolian will gain you access to the Greatest Clown Show on Earth, formerly known as the U.S. House. A Mexican, an Arab and a redneck girl are in the same bar.
When the Mexican finishes his beer, he throws his glass in the air, pulls out his pistol, and shoots the glass to pieces. He says “In Mexico, our glasses are so cheap we don’t need to drink with the same one twice.”
The Arab, obviously impressed by this, drinks his beer, throws it into the air, pulls out his AK-47, and shoots the glass to pieces. He says, “In the Arab world, we have so much sand to make glasses that we don’t need to drink with the same one twice, either.”
The redneck girl, cool as a cucumber, picks up her beer, downs it in one gulf, throws the glass into the air, whips out her 45 and shoots the Mexican and the Arab. Catching her glass, setting it on the bar, and calling for a refill, she says, “In America, we have so many illegal aliens that we don’t have to drink with the same ones twice.”
The story in the New York Times regarding Jim Webb being considered as the next Secretary of Defense is FAKE NEWS. I’m sure he is a fine man, but I don’t know Jim, and never met him. Patrick Shanahan, who is Acting Secretary of Defense, is doing a great job!
Marlene, do you get the impression that Sen Collins was shocked by the vile language, or do you think she is intimidated and afraid to be in office?
I wonder if we will see a lot of GOPe afraid to stand tall due to fear. That might accelerate the transition of the GOP from McConnell/Ryan leadership to Trump leadership.
BREAKING: PG&E plunges 18% after Reuters reports that it is exploring filing some or all of its business for bankruptcy protection as it faces billions in liabilities related to fatal wildfires. cnbc.com/quotes/?symbol…
He survived a LOT of abuse. He won several elections, some of them quite close. But in the end, the Dems won.
What were the key reasons?
For someone like me, residing out of state and not seeing much news, it seems like the cause could be
1) He never went after the people who attacked the conservative activists. Punishment of evil doers was slow and meager. Yet the attacks were like something you'd expect of a totalitarian nation.
2) I assume the media launched an infinite number of attacks. Perhaps the steady drip eventually wore away the stone.
3) Voting "irregularities"
Certainly Gov Walker did great things and broke up lots of the tax-payer-funded parts of the Dem Party in WI. A great blueprint to follow.
Thanks for grabbing that tweet about Jim Webb from the President! Like Extraneus, I am glad to see that clarified and I wan't too thrilled with the idea.
I think it's great that the President can use Twitter to debunk these fake stories.
I get emails from Amazon about "What's new with Alexa?" Here's one thing:
"Alexa, add kale to my Whole Foods list."
Er, no. I went to Whole Foods a few weeks ago to see what the hoopla was all about and couldn't find one thing I wanted to buy, even with a 5% discount.
No need for kale or a Whole Foods list, but Alexa is pretty good at telling your slaves what to do.
The wife earlier today as we were walking out the door:
PG&E already went through bankruptcy a few years ago. It's essentially an arm of the CA government already and our energy costs are already sky high so how much worse can it get?
Jim Sunnyvale,I think the suspicious envelope
delivered to her house in Bangor was very upsetting. Her husband and their puppy had to be quarantined while the house was cleared. I think she learned a hard lesson that "reaching across the aisle" is a one way street. She makes no apologies for being a moderate. I think she will follow the Olympia Snowe example and decide she doesn't need the aggravation.
I asked Alexa "tell me a Dad joke" and I swear that instead of telling me a joke about fathers it just told a lame joke.
But I dare you to change the language to "English(India)" and then ask it to tell you a joke about India. First, you won't understand all the words, and second, the ones you understand won't make sense. Fascinating!

How's all that "power" workin fer ya, Felosi?

It's also being brought back into print toward the end of the month in case anyone wants to believe it's not marching orders.

A question for henry about Gov Walker.

"Alexa, tell Roomba to clean."
Me, reheating prime rib later with a sous vide:
"Alexa, tell Joule to go to 135."
That's more like it. That and a crackling fire.

Mitch McTurtle Snout needs to man up NOW. He owes the POTUS more than just the judicial appointments.
The Dragon Lady got the biggest pork barrel seat and 350 appointments languish. it's time to f*ck Schumer hard in front of the entire senate.
have him held in contempt for obstructing the business of the federal government.
but it's time to come through 110%, Mitch. Less than 110% backing of this president makes you nothing more than a whore, a second rate one at that.
watch what happens when you back the president 110%--- he'll back you 110%. that's real business. not monkeyshine business.
now get with it, Dipstick.

But I dare you to change the language to "English(India)" and then ask it to tell you a joke about India. First, you won't understand all the words, and second, the ones you understand won't make sense. Fascinating!
