The economics of journalism, especially print, have gone to hell but newsies will take us all with them as they go. Jill Lepore of The New Yorker describes the journey. Her piece could have been titled "This One Weird Trick Will Save Your Newspaper" but she went with the comparably click-baity "Does Journalism Have A Future?".
Since you ask, yes, I am still fuming that the NY Times business model now embraces rushing to the front of the left-wing Twitter mobs and joining in. I'd like to pretend that in happier days they would try to provide perspective and facts but of course, twelve years ago they were dead-enders clinging to their favored Duke lacrosse narrative long after reality had come home to most others. Agenda-driven crusading has been a Times staple for years (who else remembers their crusade to include women at Augusta National from, hmm, I don't remember. "Flood the zone" was the key phrase and it came from Howell Raines in 2002.)

It's not journalism at all.
What sbw does is journalism. What Sharyl Atkisson does is journalism.
What these "reporters" and "writers" for the NYT (and WaPo, and BuzzFeed and MSNBC and all the rest who joined in on - or instigated in the first place - the twitter outrage mob) are doing is on the level of rats pushing the right button to get their food pellets.
The difference is, rats can't really aspire to anything higher than an extra food pellet.
The people you're talking about, TM, have expensive college degrees (and in many cases graduate degrees, too), and multi-page resumes full of prestigious jobs. They know better. If they choose to behave like lab rats, they should not be allowed to blame economics or what their peers are doing.
They are actively choosing this course, knowing it's wrong, knowing its harmful, knowing its self-destructive, and not caring one damn bit.
They deserve every single ounce of condemnation that is heaped upon them, and then some more for good measure.

This comment fits better on this thread anyway;
The MFM's game seems not too well thought out.
They have to know constantly being caught in lies alienates the marginal and "independent" types and is why they are thought even less of than lawyers.
Their base is already frenetic.
All progs ever say is how they are destined to conquer all via demographics. But their strategy only works with an influx of new progs, because they are absolutely running off native people far faster than they're gaining them [ie Blexit, #walkaway].
The Wall is an existential threat and they know it, as does Trump, hence their screeching insanity about it. And Trump himself with his unapologetic appeal to minorities is as well, hence their screeching insanity about him.
They don't hate him and his followers because they're a threat to an America they actually despise.
They hate us because we're the first real threat to them they have faced.

You're right, Ig, about the wall being an existential threat--to the Democratic demography-is-destiny sureties. From what I know of the academic left, they sure don't plan on reproducing themselves--in my department only a few of us have children (I am of course a weirdo with four). I think my last days will be happier with a big family than otherwise (not that I had kids on a prudential basis--quite the contrary!). I don't think many of my colleagues regret their choices but they haven't retired yet.

The media have become Orwell's nightmare. Twice in the past week they have completely blown the news. They can no longer deny that they are fake media.
But instead of putting on sack cloth and ashes they have largely gone silent. Not one genuine apology for either story have I seen. That pretty well says it right there.
The spectacle of Nancy Pelosi at the front door of the Capitol trying to bar the president's entry will, I think, galvanize the muddle into realizing how badly they have been had.
She's going to lose this one badly, and it I think the shutdown may now blow up in those clown's faces. Trump appears very reasonable to most of us, but the hostage taking by the Dems is starting to seep out into public knowledge.

Some have made the point that, sooner or later, someone will probably be killed as a result of media incitement. I almost hate to say it, but I think the best case scenario would be for media figures to be the first victims.
Right now, they feel invincible, as if nothing bad could happen to them after they offer rewards for people to track down and punch high school kids in the balls, rescind college acceptances, fire people from their jobs, etc., etc. However, notice that these same media figures never come close to maligning Muslims. The reason is obvious: fear.
I think it would be a good thing if media figures were in fear of the consequences of inciting the mob. It's not like they all have bodyguards. Their address could be found and they could be tracked down and confronted. It might not even require violence to push them back from the brink, but I think it will require fear.

How about a Root Beer Summit at the White House?

HOF zombie:
666 I search this thread and nowhere, to my amazement, does the word "Alinsky" appear.
Dudes, this vilification of these boys is taken verbatim from Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals," in which he instructs leftist mobs to pick individual targets and destroy them one by one, rather than trying to take on the full force of the united enemy line.
The left ALWAYS has to choose a single individual villain to demonize and destroy. It serves as a way to cause attrition among the enemy ranks, but more importantly is a technique to frighten everyone else into silence and compliance -- the "pour encourager les autres" of th French Revolution, or the "head on spikes" of Vlad Tepes' Wallachia.

Ext, that gun case will be a HUGE indication of where the new court (with Kavanaugh) is going. It will be even more nail biting if RBG is dead but not replaced when it gets argued in April and decided by June.

I was looking for the spelling of Sandmann's name earlier, so I went to Bing and typed in "Nicholas", expecting it to come up in the suggestions. Then I added "S". No dice. Then I went to "Sand". Still no dice. Then I went to "Sandman". Still didn't come up!
Then I went to DuckDuckGo and typed "Nicholas", and his name was the 2nd choice.
Try it.

Did someone jump the gun?

EXCLUSIVE on the new #LauraIngrahamPodcast — the Covington Catholic students threatened by the leftist internet mob will be meeting with @realDonaldTrump at the White House as early as tomorrow. @iTunes @PodcastOne

Now White House now seems to be in flux re. Covington Catholic kids. Announced any meeting would happen after shutdown. Odd as it would be less meaningful if delayed.

Agreed, OL. I'd actually hate to take the risk on something so important, and hope she's replaced before then.
If you read further than what I excerpted, it's really amazing what they get away with. (In the next quotes, I'm pretty sure they mean handguns, not all firearms, but maybe it's even worse than I imagine.)
It seems impossible that such an onerous regime could withstand a 2nd Amendment challenge.

How many people here knew that Scotty Centerfold was the ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa?

As an alumni of Transylvania University, in Lexington,KY,(1974) I am writing the president asking that he provide a "full-ride" scholarship for one of the guys from Coventry Catholic School. A little about Transy. It was founded in 1780 as the 16th oldest college in the US. It was the first college west of the Allegheny Mountains. Notable students included Stephen F Austin, Jeff Davis, Cassius Clay (the abolitionist, not the fighter), "Happy" Chandler, John Hunt Morgan (although he was kicked out for dueling), and many governors senators and other public officials, throughout the west. It also played in the first football game in the south (1880) I will post his response, if any.

Gold star for Marlene. Maybe that was known by me at the time of the appointment and I just forgot about it.

Mike in Houston,
I think Berea College is the opposite of Translyvania, right?
I am still livid about this Covington Catholic kerfuffle. That kid looked like Frederick, and now I have to worry that any Catholic school kid is a target. That is the way the left using Alinsky rules performs.
This is far from over. I still say Stolen Valor should look into Phillips USMC claims.
