Kavanaugh was a sop to the RINOs to get them on board and figure out who were the obdurate dolts in the NeverTrumps. Even Patterico, when he wasn't pretending to be pious by linking Bach pieces in between calling people TrumpHumpers like a retarded monkey, approved of Kavanaugh.

Rather than deal with the snow-panicked Kroger crowds, I ordered on line and will pick my groceries up this afternoon.

Since I didn't need anything complicated, I though I would give this a try.

We will see.

Apologies if this has been posted previously [I am *still* not caught up with JOM/JTH, and probably never will be] . . .

I see the dipshits are at it again with another attempted assault weapons ban.
Posted by: Gentlejim | January 10, 2019 at 08:07 AM

The Senate Democrats, led by Diane Feinstein, have quietly slipped a new "Assault Weapons Ban" bill into the Senate legislative process while attention was diverted by the shutdown:

The bill bans "any assault weapon that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons."

And it "Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines."

Feinstein tweeted these howlers as justification:

Sen Dianne Feinstein ✔
Americans across the nation are asking Congress to reinstate the federal ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. If we’re going to put a stop to mass shootings and protect our children, we need to get these weapons of war off our streets.
1:18 PM - Jan 9, 2019

That's why I'm proud to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019. This bill bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name.
1:18 PM - 9 Jan 2019

She is getting deservedly slattered on her Twitter feed for this latest attempted ban:

Yeah, this is sure to "put a stop to mass shootings and protect our children", whatever that means.

Talk about a non-story from The Daily Beast …

White House Intervened in Trump's Casino Pal Steve Wynn's Case

It is unclear why the White House made the request for the meeting with acting Solicitor General Jeff Wall, which was uncovered in a Freedom of Information Act discovery by the group American Oversight and has not been previously reported. Nor is it clear if Wall actually met with White House officials about Wynn's case. Both the White House and the Department of Justice declined to comment.

This article is a year old, but well worth reading if you (like me) didn't see it the first time.

Momto2, my condolences. Rocco, I'm looking forward to good news. Just got back from the Doctor Who says I have a Glaucoma, except I don't think I do because it's the same old problem in my left die that I've had since I was 48. Actually it was diagnosed when I was 48 and there's a good chance I was born with it. I will obey however that means my eyes are always going to be red. Overheard two older women ( and that means real old ) talking in the waiting room about how they wished Hillary hadn't run and how on earth could we elect someone with ties to Russia. I was so tempted to tell them that it was Hillary who had ties to Russia, but I kept my mouth shut. Interesting morning.

Take those eye drops,Jane, just in case the doctor's right.

They started doing that this summer and while people griped it just upped the demand for generators. They considered shutting it down just before the Camp Fire started but didn't.
I think most people understand above ground powerlines and trees = fire and won't mind.

Oh I will, and they might help my typing abilities which are clearly a mess. The numbers are normal and I'd bet I don't have it, but I will obey. It's the same symptoms when they misdiagnosed a brain tumor when I was 48.

(Not to relitigate this issue). Bezos indeed owns the Washington Post. He is also a liberal. I do not like his politics. What I'm talking about liking is his accomplishments in life which started early and don't seem to stop.--

Granted, Jane.
But along with the little angel on their shoulder we have to look at how often they listen to the little demon on the other to evaluate the whole man. Otherwise Larry Flynt, or Al Capone for that matter, would be a man for all seasons.

Good Morning! Warning: take your BP meds before reading... I read in Howie Carr's recent column that Lois Lerner dropped 1.96M on a house on Nantucket. OL,if you are lurking, have you heard anything about this?

-- from that HR1 bill above... some details:

It forces states to implement mandatory voter registration.

mandates that states allow all felons to vote... --

Are they sure they want to go down that road? Even the wimpy GOP would be tempted to order blue states [and everyone else] to vote on election day, have voter ID, no felons voting, demonstrate a real need for absentee ballots, as infinitum ....

The simple fact is if the right had any brains there would be a hundred or a thousand federal civil rights lawsuits already filed about vote dilution and vote fraud. There is no way these urban or blue state vote schemes could withstand the slightest scrutiny. That's why they scream from the rooftops there isn't voter fraud; because they know what a vast amount is just sitting there, barely concealed, ready to be uncovered.

I'm at a loss to explain why POTUS hasn't unleashed a hell-hound on voter fraud.

Instead of touting a damage-controlling message of "historic victories" during the mid-terms, why not tout the historic levels of legalized vote fraud in California and Florida.

How many of the unfilled appointments are germane to voter fraud in some way. After all Trump is fighting with the army he has.

before i go, wanted to share a great low-low carb porridge recipe for cold winter mornings.

CHIA Porridge ( :D won't give you 70s Green hair!)

1. Soak 1 cup dark or light chia seeds overnight
2. Next day stir soaked seeds to mix thoroughly. Seeds will form a gel.
3. heat 1/2 cup of preferred milk (low)
4. add favorite sweetener (i use xylitol because it tastes like sugar! :D)
5. stir in desired amount of chia with a whisker to fight lumping.
6. heat until milk vapor shows. turn off heat.
7. let porridge sit for 2 minutes to absorb heat without cooking the chia.
8. yummy it up.

very filling. sticks to your ribs. and it is easy on the digestive system requiring minimal enzymatic diversion from healing mode to digestive mode.

no post breakfast drowsiness or carb crash either. helped me kick the "toast" habit.

hope your days are grand. Kev out.

Due to a power outage, the house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3 year old girl to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby and Little Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his feet and spanked him on the bottom and he began to cry. The paramedic then asked the wide eyed 3 year old what she thought about what she had just seen.

She quickly responded “He shouldn’t have crawled in there in the first place, spank him again!”

President Trump has appointed Charlie Kupperman as Deputy National Security Advisor. He brings more than four decades of national security policy and program experience to the role and will help further President Trump’s national security agenda.
I don't know anything about Kupperman. Does anyone here know about him?

Humanitarian Crisis at our Southern Border. I just got back and it is a far worse situation than almost anyone would understand, an invasion! I have been there numerous times - The Democrats, Cryin’ Chuck and Nancy don’t know how bad and dangerous it is for our ENTIRE COUNTRY....

...The Steel Barrier, or Wall, should have been built by previous administrations long ago. They never got it done - I will. Without it, our Country cannot be safe. Criminals, Gangs, Human Traffickers, Drugs & so much other big trouble can easily pour in. It can be stopped cold!

In 1980, Kupperman served on the Reagan-Bush campaign team and was part of what became known as the "October Surprise Group," whose objective was to prepare for "any last-minute foreign policy or defense-related event, including the release of the hostages, that might favorably impact President Carter in the November election."

Justice Ginsburg will not be in the office today, again.

She is taking a very well-deserved long 11-day weekend for the Martin Luther King holiday.

Nevertheless, as you might expect, she plans to be very active over the long weekend.

Her planned activities include capturing a Bigfoot creature, locating the Templar treasure on Oak Island, strip mining an asteroid in a proof-of-concept demonstration and winning the bridge rubber game against the Steins down the hall.

She said she will call in to me her votes on court matters from her jitterbug.

stupid foreign laws are only good for lawyers:

European patent law has a concept called the technical effect doctrine. European Patent Office guidelines describe a technical effect as "the control of a technical process or of the internal functioning of the computer itself or its interfaces." The technical effect doctrine says that if an invention improves the function of a computer, then it's likely to be patentable.

What patent do y'all wish you had the patent for in the history of patents?

I'll go first... I wish I had the patent on the toilet paper springy thing that holds the paper in the holder. Imagine how many of these are in use around the world! $$$$

That has little to do with patents:

I wish I had the patent for over budget government spending.

Iggy's 11:16 is interesting.

Pinko AOC is hogging the limelight along with Tlaib and a couple of others, but the majority of Dem House freshmen had to pretend to be Republicans in order to capture Republican districts.

I'm assuming the fake Repubs will vote lockstep with Pelosi because they're Dem, but what do their constituents think of all this hype of the far left AOC contingent?

We don't yet know how it will play out, but seems to me that Joe Lieberman is right to be worried.

More evidence that Trump chose the timing and the subject of the First Battle of 2020 perfectly. We have a brand new Dem Congress that got elected raring to impeach, and now their first fight is going to be over Trump's strongest bipartisan issue, with the shutdown as backdrop. Good times.

Was just told by a source inside Broward Sheriff’s Office that Scott Israel’s command staff, specifically the Colonels, began resigning this morning.

Looks like Israel will be suspended pending removal by Gov. Ron DeSantis today.

ChiTown alerted me to this.

I think that a good compromise would be for Trump to promise that none of the funding would go for a "wall." the funds could only be used for "non-wall immigration deceleration facilitation."

Thomas Collins

Trump may or may not be winning, MM2, but Dems warming to the emergency solution is not an indication that Trump is winning. The legislation that Trump would sign to reopen the government would remain in place even if the federal courts enjoin Trump from using federal funds from building the wall. In effect, everyone saves face. Schumer and Pelosi say they stood firm in the face of Trump's antics, and Trump says he took decisive action which, while stopped by a looney federal district court judge, will ultimately be vindicated by SCOTUS.

Trump should build the wall, and veto government reopening that doesn't retroactively fund it.

This is not a bill to okay federal worker back pay for just *this* shutdown; it changes permanent law so that in any future shutdown, workers will be paid but told not to come to work. This is bad policy. It makes shutdowns more likely to happen and more likely to last longer.

Thomas Collins,

I assume that President Trump and his lawyers also know this.

What I meant is that because some of the dems are looking at the emergency declaration as a way out, they are losing on this issue with their constituents, who do, indeed, want a wall.

I agree with Porchlight, in that Trump has handled this very shrewdly. I am looking forward to the next act.

they must truly hate us.

I don't know why but this one cracks me up.

How do we even know if Ginsberg is alive? Her clerks could be doing all of the work. It would be in their interest because once she dies, they are out of work.

Heck, they could even be receiving extra pay from the DNC.

Unethical? Of course! But that is how they roll.

In effect, everyone saves face.

If the wall gets built (even if it takes time) and everyone saves face, that means Trump won. :)

Wait what, good grief with these people did they learn any lessons from november?

Update on my on-line order with Kroger. They are running behind so I will have to probably wait 2-3 hours.

I told the guy who called that this was my first time using it but I did so because of not wanting to be in the pre-snow crazinesss and I bet there were lots of others in the same position.

If this works I am going to do it every week until the weather gets better. Plus I could order stuff and have my daughter pick it up on her way home!

MM2 and Porchlight, I think Trump ultimately wins in that his stance will help him in certain key states in 2020. I don't think there will be a substantial change in most individuals' opinions of Trump. And since so many GOPers don't aggressively support Trump on this, I don't think it will be a game changer in the 2020 Senate and House races.

Still, if exit polls show this was the key factor in Trump topping Liz Warren in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Ohio and retaining the POTUSey, that would constitute a win.
