Per Politico:
Trump White House urging allies to prepare for possible RBG departure
After an ailing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg missed oral arguments, the Trump team began early groundwork for another potential confirmation battle.
I like this detail in their lede:
The White House is reaching out to political allies and conservative activist groups to prepare for an ailing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s possible death or departure from the Supreme Court — an event that would trigger the second bitter confirmation battle of President Donald Trump’s tenure.
"Second" bitter battle? OK, the Kavanaugh brawl dialed it up to Bork-Thomas levels, but the Gorsuch nomination was filibustered and the Republicans went nuclear. Critics later observed that Kavanaugh was sufficiently controversial that Republicans might not have chosen to go nuclear in his defense, but post-Gorsuch the die had been cast. Ah, well, water, bridge... We do have video of the Resistance brainstorming session that led to the Gorsuch filibuster.
Yes Jim, it's always good to see you.

My Son, is my sounding board for anything beyond the TOUCH TONE PRINCESS phone. He will be 18 on Feb 16, and he is the most precious thing, I could possibly imagine.
He's got an engineering scholarship, and he is a wonderful musician. He's handsome, he's very very smart, he's got a frickin beard at 17, he's 6 ft tall, and he is a LEADER in life, in SCHOOL, as an EAGLE SCOUT, and he BLOWS MY MIND, when he FLIPS the SWITCH and SPEAKS in PUBLIC as necessary.
HE'S MY SON, and I see a LOT of ME in him.

So far only equipment is being removed. Which makes sense in an ordinary retro move.
It will be interesting to see what doesn't make sense economically to remove. Like large ammo dumps, say. Maybe anti-tank weapons. Know what I mean?

We have less than 2000 troops in SYRIA. This whole conversation is a cannard.
The MFM, thought that our TOTAL troop/heheheheh/boots on the ground in Syria, was 500 or less, until POTUS said our ON THE GROUND MILITARY was leaving.
There is no scenario, in which a reasonable, or a reasonably lucid person, would see the withdrawal or The limited number of Troops, mostly "advisers", and none of them ACTIVELY ACTING as COMBAT or INFANTRY, as a bug out, or a stab in the back to our ALLIES. It's CLOWNISH. It is the MFM FULL COMMIE, doing what the FULL COMMIE does.
FRIENDS. We must learn this and understand our own INTERNAL ENEMY.
Obama bugged out TENS OF THOUSANDS of TROOPS from IRAQ, on a moments NOTICE.
zzzzzzzzzzzzz, snore, snorfle, zzzzzzzzzzzz, JERRY RIVERS, shed tears about our BOY'S leaving KUWAIT/IRAQ. They were MEN.
So, what is the MISSION in SYRIA. I'm all for kicking ass, and taking names.
We had less than 200 advisors ETC. What was their mission and end game????
Lastly, AMERICAN AIR FORCES, are still blowing the ISIS (I thought they were ISIL) FORCES to HELL
Did Obama even ATTEMPT THIS???????

I've got a programmed tour of the internet that I do every night after reading JOM. I've noticed recently that I'm finding things before Instapundit.
No Biggie. I guess I've been following him for so long that we have similar interests.
I've noticed that JOM posters find stuff at sites I don't normally visit. Sometimes it takes me a long time to catch up because of all the interesting links.
So I post late. I hope the JOMers who read the overnight stuff find my links useful also.
Posted by: jim nj | January 12, 2019 at 03:37 AM
Hey, Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA, I know you know it's the message, not the messenger that we celebrate. The arrival of the Bringer of Weekend Humor into our lives is always a time for celebration with another cuppa.
I appreciate your posting Tito's contributions. I don't read PL comments as often because there's so many. The comment quantity makes JOM seem tranquil in comparison. While I applaud PL's exodus from FaceBoob comments, the consequence is there are way more comments than I have time to read.
I've just finished pizza and my second cup, so now I'm primed for my third. In the meantime I'm writing software to control the signals on my model train. It's amazing how much I can get wrong when I don't completely understand the task.

The challenge posed regarding the Hewitt Bolton interview is that when the Presidency goes Democrat then any and all foreign policy positions can go null and void. I hope our allies understand and plan accordingly. The Kurds and Israel can depend on Trump's, and in kind, America's, support and loyalty. When a Democrat takes over then all bets are off. Assume the worst.
Posted by: hoyden | January 12, 2019 at 04:05 AM
Hoyden, yes, I think that what Trump did with Erdogan was political. We will withdraw our troops from Syria, no problem. Later, now here are our conditions for doing so.
We've met your request. Now meet ours.
Some of this seems to be tied to the upcoming local Turkish elections in March 2019.
I expect Erdogan to talk trash until then.

Deplorable Don finds significance in this before-and-after.
https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2019/01/star-democrat-freshman-says-shell-vote.html
Katie Hill was a superstar last summer after Democrats nominated her to face Republican Congressman Steve Knight. The Guardian called her "America's most millennial candidate." And she won.
(Before):
"Hill, D-Agua Dulce, said the only way to end the two-week-old shutdown is for the public to urge the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate and White House to support a House-passed budget resolution that doesn’t include the border-wall funding Trump wants."
(After): ... today, five days later, Hill changed sides ... "I mean, I will definitely, I don’t know if it’s steel, I will vote for some money for physical barriers." So no wall. Just physical barriers.

I left you in the lurch with Carbide Cannons...
My grandpa bought me one in the late 70's. The basic idea is a cast iron barrel with a breech that twist locks in place. There's a small 'coke spoon' and flint striker on the breech. You put water in the barrel in a reservoir and add carbide with the coke spoon. Twist the breech in place. As you know adding carbide to water produces acetylene which ignites when you hit the striker. About like Miss Marple's neighbors.

Yeah, I have no interest in Meygen, one way or the other. When I watched many, many years ago she was really sharp. I didn't have access to FOX to see what others saw after that.
I would applaud anybody who took $69 million from NBC. I'd like to take $69 million from NBC, but I don't have a contract with them.
I suspect they paid the full amount to get her to sign a NDA. I think she learned some more about the NBC shenanigans before she left there.
If I was in charge of her career I'd tell her to retire and enjoy the money, if she wasn't cool with that, I'd turn her into a fire-breathing chastised conservative.
You know, I tried to play nice, but these liberals are evil and sought to strike me down as soon as I left FOX.

OSLO, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Rapid shifts in the Earth's north magnetic pole are forcing researchers to make an unprecedented early update to a model that helps navigation by ships, planes and submarines in the Arctic, scientists said.
Compass needles point towards the north magnetic pole, a point that has crept unpredictably from the coast of northern Canada a century ago to the middle of the Arctic Ocean, moving towards Russia.
"It's moving at about 50 kilometres (30 miles) a year. It didn't move much between 1900 and 1980, but it's really accelerated in the past 40 years," Ciaran Beggan, of the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh, told Reuters on Friday.

Those three defending an empty house. They may have been within the law by shooting home invaders, but I think a warning shouted before they pulled their triggers would have been a better tactic.
A second or a split-second before firing, after the warning, would justify them.
No warning, beforehand, leaves them open to prosecution.
You should be able to kill home invaders, if it's a surprise, and your options are limited, i. e., kill or be killed.
Waiting, when you think a home invasion is imminent and you are armed, and then you fire first without warning, seems to be a stretch of the law.
But defending what may have been a rental property. Not knowing if the intruders were armed, or not. That's really going to test the laws of self-defense and standing your ground.
No one should rally to their side.

It sounds like Daniel Borden got a raw deal. Four years for participating in a so called beating of DeAndre Harris.
Harris served eight years for attempted murder but was let out by Gov. McAuliffe. Harris was roaming around the riot with a metal flashlight and some guys decided to stop him from beating on people and the DA turned it into a hate crime. That's what it sounds like anyway, because black people are relentless victims of white racism everywhere all the time that explains everything.

I hate with white-hot-passion the Weather Channel slicks who started this nonsense of naming snowstorms. They hype perfectly normal events for no reason other than to call attention to themselves, and are making an environment where real warnings will be ignored.

None of that seems to apply here.

Yes, you want to help people who want to transition. Many are willing to work if you provide housing, benefits, etc. that allow them to work for cheap wages.
They are no longer homeless, but the benefits allow them to survive at a low poverty level. A steady work history allows them to apply for better jobs.
A desire for a better life can move them into the mainstream, even if they are working for the DPW.

....the FBI was in complete turmoil (see N.Y. Post) because of Comey’s poor leadership and the way he handled the Clinton mess (not to mention his usurpation of powers from the Justice Department). My firing of James Comey was a great day for America. He was a Crooked Cop......

Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin’ James Comey, a total sleaze!
The bolded part was part and parcel of Sleepy Jeff not being as committed to draining the swamp as was necessary.

He is referring to Comey, mentioned in his last tweet.

Trump's tweets are great and all but where's the fucking DOJ following up on anything he's mentioned?

That’s not who DOJ are, CH.

On the inquiry earlier in the thread on who Robert P George is, in my world he is a major component, via the American Principles Project and Witherspoon Institute, of the false narrative on education in a most coordinated premeditated fashion. The author of the book to reimagine the constitution in a progressive manner, Sanford Levinson, thanks George in his Acknowledgments.
He regularly does panels with cornel west on their shared visions and he works with communitarian sociologist Amitai Etzioni on a series of books on desired cultural change. Henry will recognize the significance of his being a board member of the Bradley F.

That AEI Values & Capitalism program works with many of the nation's religious affiliated colleges and universities on what kind of economic system Jesus would have wanted. Fits right into the MH vision unfortunately. Joy Pullmann from The Federalist also works with that AEI group. I get invited to their conferences in case anyone hopes I am exagerating.
I wish.
Had a lovely breakfast with RG and we talked a bit about how I stumbled across the Right and Left Pincer coordination and his interesting work with various groups. He has discovered that staying in this part of town makes it easy to get almost anywhere else when you need to.

30 Democrats in Puerto Rico with 109 lobbyists for weekend despite shutdown
Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.
Those attending the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan planned to meet with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable Saturday.

But the weekend is packed with free time for the members and their families on the trip.

Got the donating to the wall figured out I hope, and donated more. IMO, Americans who cared could easily do the whole Wall and I'm sure at a much lower cost. Build the WALL.

It's maddening. There's no evidence that Huber has spoken to anyone, and Horowitz still hasn't completed his FISA investigation. And what has Whitaker done so far, about this or anything else? Maddening I tell you.

lurkersusie,
I saw a mention on Twitter that Bill Clinton is in Puerto Rico, too, representing the CLinton Foundation.
(Visualize me rolling my eyes, here.)

I have been FAR tougher on Russia than Obama, Bush or Clinton. Maybe tougher than any other President. At the same time, & as I have often said, getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. I fully expect that someday we will have good relations with Russia again!

Mitt Romney’s daily schedule -
7am - wake up, look in the mirror for an hour.
8am - $200 cup of coffee
9am - apply 20 lbs of hair gel and comb hair exactly 400 strokes per side.
10am - see what Trump tweets so he can take the opposite view.
11am - 10pm - act like a dick.

What did he order? Something keto like steak and eggs? Or comfort food like biscuits and gravy?
He had some medical work done a while back. Is he pretty spry now, or gimping along?
No need to reply if that feels invasive. Miss that guy! Always happy to see him stop by. Also, Sandy Daze. And here's hoping that JiB is lurking and updates us on his fine young man from time to time.

New Dem Talking Point: Wall Is *Luxury* We Can’t Afford
"It’s so hard to keep up with the Dems: from “illegal immigration is wrong,” to “they aren’t illegal, just undocumented,” to “there’s a crisis at the border” to “the so-called crisis is a manufactured one,” to “border walls are ineffective,” to “border walls are immoral,” and now this, from Pelosi:"

Lyin’ James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter S and his lover, agent Lisa Page, & more, all disgraced and/or fired and caught in the act. These are just some of the losers that tried to do a number on your President. Part of the Witch Hunt. Remember the “insurance policy?” This is it!
