A lot of these new leaks I think are part of the whole Dim strategy of getting Trump at any cost. The truth doesn't come into play as we have seen time and again "I reject your facts!".

Anything that comes out of Cohen's mouth is automatically disqualified and they all know it, but their objective is to toss as much mud as possible so it doesn't really matter whether it is true or not. It keeps the base at a boil.

I hope that the Ohr testimony really hits home because if true, Comey and his cronies are f*ed. The complete nature of the dossier was well known at the highest levels and was used regardless to obtain a fraudulent warrant and open a fraudulent investigation.

There are several serious felonies involved. Let's home they are indicted and convicted.

This also explains completely why the FBI has been stonewalling. Another series of felonies, I think.

Neither Trump nor Pelosi/Schumer can politically afford to capitulate to the other. If Trump does then he greatly reduces his chances of getting re-elected. If Pelosi/Schumer do that any Democrat who votes for funding the border wall stands a good chance of losing their primary to a challenger from the nutjob Bernie/Occasional Cortex wing of the party.

No idea how this is going to play out but Trump has more leverage IMO. We already know what he wants. He can show the American public he is willing to make a compromise deal and give Democrats something significant they want like DACA in exchange for getting what he wants. Reasonable voters would view that as a valid attempt for bipartisan compromise. If Democrats refuse to negotiate then in a sane world reasonable voters would hold them accountable for the impasse. BTW "reasonable" voters obviously rules out most of the Democrat base. I have no clue how many moderate/independent voters that term applies to but I hope its a lot.

BTW, reading a week or so of JOM on my iPad (no killfile) let me see all the usual back and forth with the 4D crowd and the color of hats.

The gist of all that argument seems to be "Trump is smart so he would never have appointed a black hat at the DoJ or the FBI, and if you think some of them actually do wear black hats and Trump appointed them anyway, then you are saying that Trump is not smart."

Checkmate, right?

I suggest a third option: Trump never intended to restore the Rule of Law and Equal Justice for All (which would have then demanded the guilty be punished in a public and timely manner) in the first place. He knows that promise helped get him elected hence all the tweets and expressions of outrage at his own DoJ, but he never meant to actually change the rules or punish the offenders for reasons known only to him.

If that is true, then everything we have seen since 1/20/2017 fits just fine.

And if that is true, it tells us things about other big campaign promises like repealing O'Care, draining the Swamp, Transforming our tax code permanently, and building a 2,000 mile wall.

Extraneus

Why?

“After two months of considering it, I have concluded that the best way for me to fight for the America that so many of us believe in is to stay in the U.S. Senate and not run for the presidency in 2020,” Casey said in a statement.

Translation: "Ain't no way I could win the nomination."

Narciso79

Extraneus

It's possible, OL, but it would require him to have forsaken the lust for revenge against even the smarmiest of creatures, such as Comey and Brennan.

Tom R

Trump never intended to restore the Rule of Law and Equal Justice for All (which would have then demanded the guilty be punished in a public and timely manner) in the first place.

OL,

You are more than entitled to your opinion, which, if true, indicates that Trump is no different than any other Swamp politician and will blatantly lie to his supporters if that is what it takes to get elected.

Old Lurker

Narc, then that suggests that he is not smart. That is door #2.

Good news is I got the referral to Sports Med today. Same bunch that treats the Ahia State football team.

Hopefully get some imaging soon to start figuring out what is eff'd up.

Old Lurker

Ext, the lust for revenge is part of the image he created in his books and TV shows, along with the extreme loyalty he always has for his team, and the fact that he only uses the best of the best lawyers to get the revenge he lusts.

None of those have been demonstrated either.

GUS

Oh btw OL, Tom R says that you are entitled to your opinion.

Narciso79

I have stated getting rid of general Flynn was one of his biggest errors.

Old Lurker

TomR, yes, if this third theory is the correct one, then you are exactly right what that means.

The only reason we think he is none of those things is because we want to think that.

henry

Door #2 seems compelling. I leave room for “President has less power than assumed” too.

GUS

Hang in there Buckeye. Sounds like you've got some help on the way.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I would suggest the most likely option is, as Reagan discovered, there is only so much one man can do especially when so much of what he can do is dependent on the 535 dopes in congress and the thousands of recalcitrant drones in the bureaucracy.
And I would submit that Trump is considerably more alone and faces a vastly more hostile congress and bureaucracy than Reagan did.
One guy can only fight so many wars at once and a triage has to occur. That triage and the possibilities therein might look different from an internet blog than it does from the WH.

Buckeye

If the President really had power, Felosi's plane would have crashed into the Atlantic last night.

Very nice summary, Ignatz.

Old Lurker

Henry, Door #2 is appealing, I understand. And as his supporters, it is easier on us to assume he had no idea how DC works than to consider Door #3.

But really? How could a billionaire, much of that from successfully dealing in rough and tumble political arenas with the best lawyers on the planet in his corner not know what almost every poster at JOM has known forever?

Trump is not Jimmy Stewart coming to Washington like Mr. Smith.

Door #3 fits the observations better.

Extraneus

None of those have been demonstrated either.

True, but revenge lust is such a basic human instinct that only the saintliest of people can let it go. Hard to believe Trump is one of them.

Old Lurker

Narc "I have stated getting rid of general Flynn was one of his biggest errors."

Or else that was the very first canary in the coalmine of Door #3.

boris

"leave room for “President has less power than assumed”

Obama + deep state + uniparty + GOPe + MFM + Celebs > Trump.

Notice how some of those who claim they are "the better supporters" of Trump because their doomy perceptions are more realistic start trending toward Trump bashing.

I have said it before, pessimism is not the trait Trump needs in supporters. This, from the beginning, has been a black swan event and the only way it wins is to continue to be a black swan event. On that basis "realistic pessimism" is not conducive to support.

IMO of course YMMV.

Skeptics Shred BuzzFeed Over Trump Tower Scoop; Journo Admits He Hasn't Seen Evidence

Skeptics are taking aim at a Thursday night BuzzFeed report that President Trump "personally instructed" his former attorney Michael Cohen to lie to congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

Less than 12 hours after the report, its credibility has been called into question after the two journalists who wrote the story gave vastly different answers as to whether they had actually the evidence - while many have pointed to the "dubious past" of reporter Jason Leopold.

Leopold came under fire for a 2006 Truthout.org article incorrectly reporting that Karl Rove had been indicted over the Valerie Plame CIA leak case - claiming that multiple anonymous sources "confirmed Rove's indictment is imminent."

...

The other journalist from the Thursday night BuzzFeed report, Anthony Cormier, admitted to CNN's "New Day" that he hasn't actually seen the evidence in the case.

Host Alisyn Camerota opened the interview by asking Cormier if he had seen the evidence to which Cormier replied: “Not personally.” He then clarified that “the folks we have talked to — two officials we have spoken to are fully, 100 percent read into that aspect of the Special Counsel’s investigation” -Mediaite

Except Leopold told MSNBC "We have seen the documents. We have been briefed on documents."

Old Lurker

Boris "I have said it before, pessimism is not the trait Trump needs in supporters."

A politician never wants pessimism to spread among his supporters or else they would never get the troops to climb out of the trenches and flood into no man's land as the enemy sprays machine gun rounds into that area.

The Circle Shall Not Be Broken

Tom R

TomR, yes, if this third theory is the correct one, then you are exactly right what that means.

The only reason we think he is none of those things is because we want to think that.

A couple weeks back when we were discussing Trump using the DOD budget to fund construction for the wall weren't you taking the position that Trump wasn't Constitutionally allowed to use appropriated funds for a purpose for which Congress did not appropriate them for? That was how I remember your position.

If your position is that Trump can't use the DOD budget to pay for the border wall, why do you accuse him of lying to his supporters when you know that Congress has to authorize the border wall funding?

Same question applies to the Obamacare repeal. How exactly did Trump lie to us about that when it was McCain who thwarted that effort?

GUS

Another Bob

I’ve concluded that Trump is more politically-constrained than he anticipated. I’ve hoped that stance would let the 4D crowd down gently, but seems not to have worked.

I’m also not sold on the concept that the “rough and tumble” of the NYC real estate market is sufficient training to overcome the issues encountered in the presidency.

This doesn’t exclude the possibility that Trump is a snake in the grass, but am choosing to give him the benefit of that doubt for the time being.

You're missing the deeper point-- as usual, in order to edify your faux curmudgeon self-inflicted profile.

the joyous tittering over the gotcha value of the President's executive decision is all well and good; and, for a beleaguered base it is welcome entertainment and diversion.

i'll offer this: it is a long war, no matter what, against the deep state. a central part of that war is to re-assert executive authority invested by the Constitution by this President. Period. at the heart of this stage of the Deep State's war against American liberty is to cripple and ultimately topple a duly elected POTUS.

this President has the fortitude to MANEUVER in the open field against an enemy that's superior in number; and it is highly concealed for all of the media blather and court manipulation.

the Felosi comeuppance is a sit down and shut-up moment--- and it has highly symbolic value. he says: I have the right to govern and you are not the Chief Executive of Anything.

even though the twitter bots are chattering their condemnation--- they have to be wondering: has Felosi overplayed her hand?

Very important tangible exercise of power to great effect by this POTUS-- who is playing to win.

that isn't optimism. it's common sense.

admit it. your "boys" are losers. so whenever anybody endorses the President with more than a declarative sentence, you have no choice but to reactively judge such thinking as some kind of hero worship or blind ambition.

"If he can't do three handstands on my balcony rail, then he is not worthy in the meantime."

I agree with you on the "long war" aspect but you should know OL thinks that since Trump has not restored the Rule of Law and Equal Justice for All in a timely manner (OL's subjective timescale) then that indicates Trump was lying to us about "draining the Swamp" just to get our votes.
