Qatar? Well I understand that Qatar and Iran share a gas field. I have heard that Iranis send money to Qatari banks for safe-keeping, so an economic relationship seems OK. I don't know how much further, or deeper, the relationship grows.

The relationship with Turkey that seems to be a defense pact. Qatar has a very small armed force and in the past has relied on the the US and UK having an airbase near Doha.

I think the problem in Qatar is too much money with such a small population. 300,000+ citizens, the other 86% of the population is foreign born.

Al-Jazeera self-censors itself on Qatari internal affairs, but digs into everybody else's with stilted reports.

Qatar seems to fund a lot of groups that seek to overthrow other governments. Kind off a more physical means of Al-jazeera's efforts.

I don't know what motive Qatar has for what it does, but it does seem to have an out-sized influence in the ME. Punching above their weight, so to speak.

That’s cool. I just tracked a guy down that I met once at a little conference at the Rhine Institute in Myrtle Beach about 10 yrs ago.
