Dems back in power in WI, so no surprise here:

http://www.maciverinstitute.com/2019/01/no-one-held-accountable-schimels-probe-into-john-doe-quietly-concludes/

Captain Hate

Clarice's 9:23 is sickening and should bring the curtain down on all the 4D claims. Two entire years squandered thanks to Sessions and the GOPe. I guess Trump decided that it would destabilize things too much if the truth came out.

Old Lurker

rse "This is alarming."

Only if

a) You believed the BS we were sold when we elected the GOP including Trump, and

b) You have any capacity for "alarm" remaining.

Momto2

Don't know if I will EVER catch up reading all that I missed! Saw this in the morning mail...

James D.

re some of the comments in MM's 9:15 link:

I've been saying for a while now that the GOP should have pushed for a massive student loan forgiveness.

As unfair as it would be to those who worked their way through school, or whose families scrimped and saved and sacrificed to pay for school without debt, or dutifully paid off their loans without government help, it's probably coming regardless.

So better to get out in front of it, claim credit for it, and do it by taxing university and nonprofit endowments. And tie it to an elimination of federal student lending going forward.

You take away a huge Dem issue. You give Millenials a big reason to be grateful to Republicans. You take away a huge funding source for Dems and leftist ideas. You dry up the money supply that allows universities to hire endless administrators and pay for Grievance Studies programs. And you force tuition down, because without all that "free" federal money, schools will have to either lower costs dramatically or go out of business.

But they didn't do it, and now when it inevitably happens (with plenty of GOPeErs voting for it, too, not that they'll get any credit for it), it will be paid for (if it is at all) by tax hikes on actual productive, useful people, and it won't be tied to any sort of reform, and the Dems will buy the votes of a whole generation of people.

Narciso79

It's very hard to get someone outside the blob, and then they have to fight against the bureaucracy and the academic think tank support.

Old Lurker

Also "I guess Trump decided that it would destabilize things too much if the truth came out."

Nope. He no longer deserves that assumption in my book. Sorry.

He came into office knowing the skyscraper was being built on a sinking foundation, and EVERY builder knows you first before all else establish a solid foundation then build from there. He decided to proceed with installing glass in the windows hoping he could circle back to fixing the foundation later, and of course that never works.

Worse, he knew that his entire base knew the foundation was sinking because he shouted that at every rally "She would be in jail"; "They Wiretapped my campaign"; They are using the government for political gain". Did he think we would forget? He does not have the luxury of claiming "I had no idea it was this bad" since he never went after even the lowest of offenders.

How's that?

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

So the new standard is that her clerks do the work while she works on maintaining a pulse? How long will that be allowed to continue?

Old Lurker

Jim, since Roberts lowered the bar by collecting her vote from Sloan-Kettering, there is no reason he can't continue doing that for six months after she dies at home unless the smell starts to bother the neighbors.

Senate Republicans are facing a tough 2020 election with 22 seats to defend and they may be starting to realize Trump is a liability. In fact, one of those Republican senators up for re-election in 2020 is Mitch McConnell.

Here's Adam Smith, new chair of the House Armed Services Committee and bald-faced liar:

On Sunday, ABC's "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos asked Smith "Does President Trump have the ability, have the authority to declare a national emergency and have the military build his wall?"

"Well, unfortunately, the short answer is yes," replied Smith. "There is a provision in the law that says the president can declare an emergency. It’s been done a number of times, but primarily it’s been done to build facilities in Afghanistan and Iraq. In this case, I think the president would be wide open to a court challenge saying, where is the emergency? You have to establish that in order to do this. Beyond that, this would be a terrible use of Department of Defense dollars."

"The president spends most of his time talking about how we’re not spending enough on national security, now he wants to take $20 billion out of defense budget to build a wall. Which by the way, is not going to improve our border security. The president seems unaware of this, but we have actually already built a wall across much of the border, and all border security experts that I talk to say, where a wall makes sense, it’s already been built. We should have a conversation about border security, but first, we should we open the government and pay our border patrol agents and the federal agents that are furloughed," Smith added.

henry

Brutal article about Romney

Make America great again? “I can do better than that,” the desperate Romney seems to be shouting, anxious to restore the ancien regime that existed pre-Trump. “Just give me a chance, hear me out, turn to me, and I can make America grand again!”

Phooey. This superannuated freshman senator has all the gravitas of Norma Desmond cracking up at the end of “Sunset Boulevard.” “All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.” The word besides “unreliable” that comes closest to describing the character of Mitt Romney at the start of his latest presidential bid is “delusional.”

If fraud is the intentional deception of others to gain something of value then why can't a voter persuaded by those Alabama disinformation campaigns sue them for fraud for deceiving him into giving them his vote?

Obviously if fraud statutes were extended to politics there would have to be an exemption for the actual candidates or we wouldn't have anyone to vote for.

Joe DeGenova on Comey from Clarice's 09:34:

The “Cardinal” was a sobriquet FBI agents used to denigrate their leader. As Deputy Attorney General, he was called “drama queen.” Known for his pomposity and self-regard, Comey cut a swath of arrogance unknown in either of those illustrious organizations. He was the cult of personality. He surrounded himself with sycophants, people dedicated to his promotion and their advancement. The Bureau and the public became the losers.

My problem with this column is where are all these FBI Agents that were going to rise up and spill the beans on their hated Leader? They were supposed to come out of the woodwork, all those brave, tough, principled "Whistle-Blowing" god fearing, god loving, red blooded American to the core FBI Agents. Where the hell are they?
