Progressives agree and no one else matters - sky-high tax rates on "the rich" are what's best for all of us! But not so fast.
THE ETERNAL CAVEAT: Who are "the rich"? Paul Krugman is always going n about billionaires and private jets until tax reform is on the table and then he wants to raise taxes on everyone earning more than $250,000 (which is roughly where Bill Clinton's "millionaire's tax" kicked in).
However, in the current Ocasio-Cortez version of the progressive fantasy, we will see dream rates on those earning above $10 million per annum. This WaPo howler barely notes the problem that much of that high-end income is capital gains, not tedious W-2 wages and salary. Sure, let's raise the capital gains rate to 70% and see whether people volunteer to sell assets and incur the taxes. Bet they don't!
MM,DeSantis is being proactive about the Everglades/toxic algae/red tide issue. This area (southwest coast) had terrible red tide. There are still areas with algae blooms, but less dead fish washing up on shore. Hubby showed me drone video of some of the areas he's kayaked. There is more water than land in some places. Swamps, creeks and rivers that flow out to the Gulf. Lots of wildlife habitat, really amazing.

I don't know, Iggy. Mormons are a bit more inoffensive than Calypso Louie's Black Scientology nutjobs no matter how weird the underlying doctrines might be so starting with that comparison is a bad pairing. I don't see an upside to pointing out the weirdness of their belief just like I used to find ace most offensive when he displayed his ignorance about Christianity.

As the Wall debate continues...need to look at the connection between open borders, the 2020 census & redistricting. Illegals cannot vote—but they are (somehow!) counted for the # of House reps per state. No wonder the Left puts SANCTUARY STATES & open borders before US citizens.

--I don't see an upside to pointing out the weirdness of their belief just like I used to find ace most offensive when he displayed his ignorance about Christianity.--
Yeah, but I'm displaying knowledge about Mormonism not ignorance of it.
Somehow criticizing what someone believes gets conflated with criticizing them personally. Some of the biggest horse's asses I know are Christians and some of the most splendid people I know aren't.
Romney's a chump because he's a chump not because he's a Mormon.
He's wrong about all things spiritual and divine because he's a Mormon.
And I agree it is neither wise nor useful in a public political context to raise the issue.
I try to only raise it here in the context of it being a false religion, not some slightly off base Christian denomination which it tries very hard to present itself [falsely] as.
The commenter who left was a perfect example of what Mormonism does. It was apparent from his comments he wasn't even aware of those crackpot doctrines I linked earlier. Most lay Mormons aren't.

Romney is entitled like anyone else to hate Trump's guts; it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Trump doesn't exactly go out of his way to make other politicians like him, and he's not a sensitive flower. If he wants to say Trump is an asshole that's fine with me.
It is Romney's obvious political stance--literally going over to the other side--that makes him persona non grata with me. Harry Reid? The WaPo editorial? Egg McMuffin? All, as far as I can tell, from pure, unprincipled spite and ego.
Ted Cruz has a history of bad blood with Trump and has good reason for it on the personal level. But he supports what Trump is doing when it is consistent with his conservative principles--which is most of the time, and doesn't do the grandstanding opposition crap.*
*OK maybe he's just waiting to see how things go after RBG...er...resigns. I don't really know these people.

Mark Twain: All men have heard of the Mormon Bible, but few, except the elect have seen it or at least taken the trouble to read it. I brought away a copy from Salt Lake. The book is a curiosity to me. It is such a pretentious affair and yet so slow, so sleepy, such an insipid mess of inspiration. It is chloroform in print.
If Joseph Smith composed this book, the act was a miracle. Keeping awake while he did it, was at any rate...
The Mormon Bible is rather stupid and tiresome to read. But there is nothing vicious in its teachings. Its code of morals is unobjectionable. It's smooched from the New Testament and no credit given.

Interesting concept. Buy existing tankers or container ships and equip them with missile pods.
They won't need sophisticated targeting systems. Launch commands and targeting can come from elsewhere.
It has a certain kind of "ghost fleet" feel to it in that you don't need an expensive, sophisticated ship, just a launch platform controlled from elsewhere.

Well I just caught up and now I know how Alexa fits in to the Bezos story.
So in this electronic age we live in, where Prince Charles wants to be a tampon, where Trump is hounded like a dog for a 12 year old secretly recorded comment about grabbing a gal's pussy, where we have the stupendous object lesson of "Carlos Danger's" Weiner, where we have tons of Movie Starlets with their nude pix leaked online, and where Trump is daily hounded toward impeachment by bogus allegations of Russian prostitutes peeing on his bed in Moscow, what with all that as preface, the richest man in the world, married father of 4, decides to take pictures of his crank and text them to his mistress, a married mother of 3.
Brilliant.
Here's an update that tells both sides of the story, but its not from the Washington Post: 'It's going to be a beauty!' Trump mocks Amazon chief Jeff Bezos over his divorce and snarks 'I wish him luck' following bombshell about love affair with married TV anchor that pre-dated announcement of split from his wife of 25 years
Sanchez was voted 'Biggest Flirt' by her classmates at Del Norte High School
I suppose Bezos's paper, the Washington Post, won't do such in depth stories because they want to avoid being indicted by Bob Mueller, the Special Counsel who was largely appointed at Bezos's paper's urgent request and who, since his appointment as Special Counsel, has indicted the editor and reporters at the National Enquirer.

Please stop the Mormon bigotry.
I don't think what you are referring to is that, as you could sub in 'Catholics' and 'purgatory' if those were the factually accurate nouns and it would read the same, but I'll second your motion if you'll stop with the misogyny.
(daddy's comment is a factually accurate statement; those men are Mormons, and Mormons doctrine teaches that they spend eternity on various planets out there somewhere. You interpret his simple statement of fact as bigoted. )
Go back and read a week's worth of your posts, and you'll see what I am talking about IRT misogyny though.
Maybe misogyny not what I'm seeing either---I know you are the father of daughters--but it sure reads like it is.
I know a reader such as yourself has a working vocabulary which isn't as limited as it appears to be when you are referring to women you disagree with.
Or even find reprehensible.

On the Science scene tonight thought the map in this story showing the speed at which our Magnetic North Pole has started moving in the last few years is very interesting, especially when compared to how slow it moved 100 years ago.
Scientists warn Earth's magnetic North Pole has begun moving 'erratically' at speeds so fast they are having to issue an emergency update to maps used by electronic navigation systems
Where I notice it is when old Runways like here at Anchorage which used to be numbered Runway 06, are now numbered Runway 07, due as I understand it to changes in magnetic variation as a consequence of the magnetic Pole's shifting position.
G'nite.

rocco, what I think you are describing with the bebe--congratulations!--is elevated bilirubin, which needs to come down before they'll release the baby. There are two components too. (i guess I could google it...)
It what causes jaundice. It's usually from some red blood cells breaking down. Either in the baby's blood stream, from some minor incompatibility w momma's, or from a hematoma being resorbed (like the one on my firstborn's head, that he got from being the first one out the chute).
The concern is if it builds up, it can settle out in certain areas of the brain and cause problems.
Most babies will clear it out on their own if well hydrated --thus the concern about nursing, and why they are supplementing formula.
Sunlight (UV light) also breaks down the bilirubin.
The problem comes from NOT knowing about it--like discharging new moms the same day of delivery, then not having milk come in---NOT being aware of it, and having it go unmonitored.
They're on it!

I often said during rallies, with little variation, that “Mexico will pay for the Wall.” We have just signed a great new Trade Deal with Mexico. It is Billions of Dollars a year better than the very bad NAFTA deal which it replaces. The difference pays for Wall many times over!

H1-B holders in the United States can rest assured that changes are soon coming which will bring both simplicity and certainty to your stay, including a potential path to citizenship. We want to encourage talented and highly skilled people to pursue career options in the U.S.

The H1-B arrangement (probably like a lot of US visa arrangements) is complicated, as anything written by committee is. The H1-B holders I know do seem to jump through a lot of hoops. Simplifying it isn’t a bad idea.
And I don’t fundamentally disagree with the notion that there should be consideration for scarcity in the labor markets built into the immigration system.
But for most of the H1-B uses I’ve seen, I observe no scarcity that requires a special entrance door. It’s use seems to be to keep downward pressure on wages in high-wage occupations.

I came home from the hospital with a dark tan from the bilirubin incubator. According to my parents.

Kudos to Alex Berenson for writing that book about marijuana and to Mother Jones for publishing the article about it.
This is a bad road we are going down.

Good morning and thanks again everyone for the well wishes. And thanks amom for that great explanation. I'm told some blood results this morning will show whether the bilirubin level has come down or risen. I'll check in later when I hear more but right now big brothers on his way over so dad can be with mom.

Iggy,
(Not to relitigate this issue). Bezos indeed owns the Washington Post. He is also a liberal. I do not like his politics. What I'm talking about liking is his accomplishments in life which started early and don't seem to stop.
