If Washington is really committed to becoming a full time Snooki & Company DC Shore reality show, let's dial it up!
Obviously progressive It-girl Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is too young to be Constitutionally eligible for the Presidency in 2020. So what?!? And some hidebound traditionalist states may have ballot rules for the Democratic primaries that require a primary candidate to be eligible for the office they seek - change the rules!
Democratic strategists should make a real push to get her on the primary ballots and give her a chance to accumulate delegates prior to the Democratic convention. That will let her be a formal power-player and ought to energize Democratic efforts to register and rally the youth vote, the way Barack and Bernie did and Hillary did not.
If the DC governing class doesn't want or expect to be taken seriously, then embrace the new reality. If they're just going to give us a show, give us a good one. Run AOC!

Cap'n, what is your problem???
Why do you and TomR and others jump to the conclusion that I have thrown in the towel on a damn thing? Why are we better off if people like you just assume it all will work out, sometime, somehow? What is wrong with at least considering all the options on the table? What good is ignoring possibilities especially when you have no reason to assume otherwise? I don't either, but at least I offer an option that fits two years of actual observations unlike you. Now if you want to suggest reasons Door #3 is not the correct choice, have at it. But if all you can add is name calling and cursing, then don't bother.
Not only is your knee jerk response to whatever I say thoughtless and beneath you, frankly I am sick and tired of your foul language. How come you think you get to talk like that when nobody else does and it is hard to imagine anybody appreciates it.
Now, if this is to be the "New Cap'n", fine, you and I will not be conversing in the future.

The Clintons never received 50% of the national popular vote. Bush's RINO ways and lying made him a terrible choice. People here, two in particular, are prone to blame voters for the absolute failure of both political parties to deliver good candidates. Political parties are as much of malignant growths on the body politic as George Washington feared.

anybody who does not think AOC can be elected President in the future is not paying attention to the current demographics
I absolutely think she can. Besides demographics, there's the fact that our corrupted education system and rotten popular culture has taught 50% of the population that all news and information comes from Colbert/Daily Show/Bill Maher, and sharing of tweets and facebook memes.
AOC is tailor-made to appeal to those people.

Cap'n "People here, two in particular, are prone to blame voters"
So name us and stop hiding behind "people here".
I already mentioned the obnoxious profane and vile reaction you had last week to my comment that the voters have responsibility for their votes. Sure is nice when you can hide your head in the sand and blame it ALL on crummy parties or the man in the moon.
Your spitballs are illogical and avoid the real problems.
And did I say offensive?
Posted by: Old Lurker | January 19, 2019 at 09:03 AM
Well the second Clinton lost hands down, and the first was elected by a voting pool that existed in 1991, 27 years ago during which time the nature of the voting pool changed dramatically. And George Washington, rich white slave owner, was like a long timer ago, Dude.

I have to assume that Darwinian logic similarly explains the gorgeousness of Sydney's women.
God Bless the Convict Women Prison ships of 1788!
Naturally it follows that if the Brits had not lost the American Revolution, then all that hearty criminal stock of lasses would have sweetened our own gene pool, since instead of shipping them "Down Under" they'd have shipped them to the Colonies in America.
Can you imagine where we'd be if we actually had cute gals in Newark and smart gals in Boston? Damn George Washington!

A late good morning!
The only thing I have to say about the voters and AOC is that sometimes events shape the electorate.
For example, the re-election of Jimmy Carter was killed by the Iranian hostage crisis.
Who could have predicted the resurgence in patriotism caused by the success of the US Hockey Team in the 1980 Olympics?
There are things which happen that we cannot predict, and therefore I remain hopeful.

I wish I could figure out 2 sets of rules for reporter that must be admitted with everything they say or write. "Factual" and "Opinion". The problem is I can't see a way the left will not pervert those meanings. The majority of the press now is a complete joke.

Posted by: MissMarple2 | January 19, 2019 at 10:10 AM
Aaaand right on cue, my local rag runs as the big, half-page piece on its opinion page a semi-hysterical Greg Sargent op-ed about how the Buzzfeed allegations are the beginning of the Nixonian end for Trump "if true," even as the front page has to run the Mueller denial.
SBW you are a lonely man these days...

It goes to motivation, do you think trump really didnt intend to do these things or he just encountered stronger resistance, it doesn't mean hes dumb. I think his initial appointees on balance suggest the latter, but plans and projects run afoul of reality.
Posted by: Narciso79 | January 19, 2019 at 10:29 AM
boatbuilder,
People have bought into this Trump/ussia narrative so deeply that they are able to frame anything as supporting their preferred outcome.
I posted a thread yesterday evening about all of the corruption in Arkansas and the indictments and arrests of Arkansas politicians.
This morning, I ran across this thread, which talks about investigations of carruption with Chinese companies in Los Angeles, with a bonus of some stuff going on with DeBlasio and Clinton crnies in New York.
https://twitter.com/BenKTallmadge/status/1086540587707199488
I understand how frustrating it is not to see big names dragged away in handcuffs, but it seems to me that there is SO much to be unraveled, that a strategy of rolling up the smaller fry and cutting off money supplies, as well as getting people to flip, is the path being taken.

McAuliffe's & Tony Rodham's EB-5 visa scam would be interesting to look into.
Set up a "green" car company. Sell visas for Chinese investment money. Don't sell any cars.
Close the operation.

MM concerning events impacting voters.
You mentioned Carter 1979 and the Hockey medal 1980.
We have 90 MILLION more people in the country now compared to 1980, and most of the Depression-WWII generation was living and active. Much of that population growth did not come from births and now even those of us who learned what we learned in the 1950's are soon to be over the hill, all of our parents are gone and with them what they taught us about the world, in school and at the dinner table and in our churches.
That of course is my point in chief. We are not the people you and I grew up with. Folks like AOC would be more upset by the untimely death of a Latin Rock Star than she would be by Pearl Harbor or even 9-11.
And there I go again! :-)

Well I'm pissed off over OL's Debbie Downer act of throwing in the towel just like DoT did and betting against the basic goodness of the American people. Fuck that shit. The war isn't lost until I say it is. We have a real President now instead of worthless turds like McCain and Romney that the GOP foisted off on us and maybe he'll be followed up with someone dedicated to continuing what he started.
You can fight in my foxhole any time. OL can stay back in the rear and clean the latrines. Soldiers with his attitude are a cancer.
True story. During the Desert Shield phase of Desert Storm me and about 15 of my soldiers were deployed to the Saudi/Kuwaiti border. This was before the heavy units arrived. We were there for no reason except to serve as a deterrent against Saddam invading Saudi. If he had invaded we would have been rolled over.
I had a soldier who was a nonstop whiner and complainer about everything. Whined we were going to get killed. Whined about it being to hot. Whined about having nothing to eat but combat rations. We were in the middle of a desert so we had to build a latrine shack. You sat on a piece of plywood with a hole cut in it and there was a metal drum underneath it to catch the piss and crap. Only way to get rid of it was to put diesel in the drum and burn it. To keep the fire from going out someone had to stand there and stir the waste with a stick/pole.
Guess which soldier always got tasked to burn the shit? OL reminds me of that soldier a lot.

Momto2,
I haven’t heard of the Fruity Knitters - they interview a lot of stalwarts in the knitting community! I’ll have to listen. A cowl is a great novice project. I’m knitting a pullover sweater called Granito with a luscious yarn I bought in Maine last summer. I also have a fair isle tunic on the needles... and two shawls....and a linen top. I am not a monogamous knitter.
Anonamom, most of my knitting happens in meetings and social gatherings, plus an hour every night while we watch an episode of whatever show we’re powering through. I’m rarely caught up with JOM enough to comment.
