Does anyone else remember when The Handsmaid's Tale was first published? I was reading a lot of sci fi at the time and was even part of a book club that offered it. Even in the pre Internet age the word got out quickly about what an unreadable turd it was; so much so that I was extra careful to send back the form promptly telling the club not to send it.

The book must appeal to really horrible people with bad taste; I usually try to avoid making statements like that but not in this case.
