Comments

President-Elect Jim,SunnyvaleCA

If I understand this correctly, GAB will provide disk space to host comments even for sites which don't allow comments.

Gab.com is pleased to officially launch its sister product, Dissenter.

Dissenter is the comment section of the Internet.

Dissenter creates a free speech comment section for any URL on the web. Users can access comment threads on a URL by searching for the link on Dissenter's web app at dissenter.com. Alternatively, if users install the free and open-source Dissenter browser extension, users can see comments being made on any URL they navigate to displayed in a sidebar in their browser.

Dissenter.com thus extends Gab's reach, and its free speech platform, across the entire internet. Anyone with a Gab.com account can access Dissenter, and utilize it to express themselves on any content on the internet in any way they see fit, as long as their chosen form of expression is legal in the United States.

Dissenter has become a necessary tool due to rampant corporate censorship of ordinary internet users, whether that takes the form of YouTube demonetizing millions of videos and removing comment sections, Facebook and Instagram banning British activist Tommy Robinson for his political opinions, or Netflix banning comedy shows at the behest of Saudi princes.

Sen. Murkowski often crosses the aisle to vote in favor of abortion rights. But Monday she didn’t vote at all. Her spokeswoman said she had a prior commitment in Alaska and did not make it back to the Capitol in time.

Big anger on local Talk Radio against Lisa Murkowski for conveniently missing the Infanticide Vote yesterday, since she's pulled this excuse on us before and for coming out against the upcoming vote on Trumps Emergency Authority to build the wall. She's being called "an undocumented Democrat."

Callers and host know we have to get rid of her, but we just dont know who to put up against her to get rid of her. it has to be somebody well funded, and opinion on Sarah Palin is that she is too divisive. I'd pretty much vote for anyone. My preference is for ex Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan, who, if elected, would mean that our 2 Senators would both be named Dan Sullivan, I just finished my call with the Talk host and read on air the headline and first from graphs about Lisa M pulling the exact same trick back in 2015.

A teacher noticed that a little boy at the back of the class was squirming around, scratching his crotch, and not paying attention. She went back to find out what was going on. He was quite embarrassed and whispered that he had just recently been circumcised and was quite itchy.
The teacher told him to go down to the principal’s office. He was to telephone his mother and ask her what he should do about it. He did this and returned to class.

Suddenly there was a commotion at the back of the room. She went back to investigate only to find him sitting at his desk with his penis hanging out.

“I thought I told you to call your Mom!” she said. “I did” he said, “and she told me that if I could stick it out until lunchtime, she’d come and pick me up from school.”

Vietnam is thriving like few places on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize. The potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity, like almost none other in history, for my friend Kim Jong Un. We will know fairly soon - Very Interesting!

Momto2

I had never heard this story before - adding the inspirational words from a FB friend.

This is Jim Thorpe. Look closely at the photo, you can see that he's wearing different socks and shoes. This wasn't a fashion statement. It was the 1912 Olympics, and Jim, an American Indian from Oklahoma represented the U.S. in track and field. On the morning of his competitions, his shoes were stolen. Luckily, Jim ended up finding two shoes in a garbage can. That's the pair that he's wearing in the photo. But one of the shoes was too big, so he had to wear an extra sock.

Wearing these shoes, Jim won two gold medals that day.

It’s hard to imagine now that pro athletes get paid millions of dollars just to wear a particular brand of shoes. For Jim Thorpe, it didn’t matter what kind he wore.

This is a perfect reminder that you don't have to resign to the excuses that have held you back. So what if life hasn't been fair? What are you going to do about it today? Whatever you woke up with this morning; stolen shoes, ill health, failed relationships, don't let it stop you from running your race.

MissMarple2

Momto2,

What a great and inspiring story! Ghankas for sharing it!

when I was a freshman in high school, we were privileged to have Jesse Owens come speak to us. He was the black athlete who won the Gold Medal at Hitler's 1936 Olympics.

I never forgot it. He was so proud to have represented the United States and stood up to Hitler.

I wish we had more athletes like Thorpe and Owens.

I missed the tax discussion, but if I can chime in: I think ext has a point about "optics," but it's hard to believe people didn't take not of the larger take-home pay. I suspect that if people are reacting negatively to smaller refunds it's simply that other things being equal, they'd rather get a bigger refund check. Duh.

So if someone was taking home $20/week more from the tax cuts, but then their refund check is $200 smaller than last year, they might be saying, "Hey, I thought I was getting $1000 more, but really it's only $800." Disappointing!

Anyway, if the Repukes can't somehow communicate this, they've got bigger problems.

Momto2

oops - hit the wrong key -

Should say adjust the current grading scale from a 10 point to a 15 point scale:

A: 100 to 85 percent
B: 84 to 70 percent
C: 69 to 55 percent
D: 54 to 40 percent
F: Anything below 40 percent

re: GAB. I don't think the new "dissenter" is anything like Twitter. Instead, if TM decided to ban all comments, you could take the website

And put it into "dissenter" and then start a comment chain for TM's article there. Would be useful to enrage MSM websites, leftie websties and authoritarian foreign websites which prohibit comments.
Maybe a couple of conservative sites could become "beta testers" and use Dissenter instead of providing their own comment section? That could help GAB get real-life testing, and start training people on how to use it.

Hi, daddy--

I'm so glad you are liking it! I appreciate the praise. I do try to be clear--I hate academic jargon. Martin Gardner's first edition of The Annotated Alice was in 1960--that's the version I grew up with in my parent's library, and the annotations were mostly of the more arcane math jokes and philosophical puzzles in both books. I hope you especially enjoy my point about Carroll's embedded fiendish math jokes (as Alice tries to review her multiplication table). I am certain he put that in just to amuse himself.

Oh, and daddy, I knew--KNEW--you'd bring up Twain! In Carroll's defense, he was deeply offended by being invited to social gatherings and being expected to perform as "Carroll"--his response in such situations was always to just not cooperate--thus he hardly said a word when he met Twain (who then assumed he didn't have anything to say for himself). He didn't really like people conflating his real identity (Dodgson) with his celebrity self (Carroll). He wasn't really shy--just in some contexts.

Jim,

I think as VDH points out above many people have changed their minds about China since Trump was elected. Maybe even the North Koreans.

Yes, the Chinese have a great deal of leverage over North Korea, but I don't know if that extends to a veto power over North Korea.

I can see Kim making an argument to Xi that you're talking to the US why can't we.

I can see Kim making the argument to Trump that we need to keep some atomics, but they will all be targeted on Beijing.

President Donald Trump made headlines earlier this year (when does he not?) after he announced a new slogan for his 2020 reelection campaign: “Keep America Great.” This was significant ― besides Trump getting way ahead of himself ― because that was the tagline of the 2016 American dystopian horror movie, “The Purge: Election Year.”

Now, the White House has yet another connection to that movie as Jared Kushner just hired the publicist behind “The Purge” films, Josh Raffel.

jim nj

Narciso,

The 38North article seems right to me also.

It's more likely that the NKs can land something inside China than the US.

I think we can take our time on denuclearizing NK as long as they continue to stop testing.

A good interim result might be the destruction of their longest range missiles.

If Kim is getting good advice he needs to send Trump home with something that shows that the process, even if slow, is real.

It seems to me that Trump and Kim would not be meeting unless they had some prior agreement or were finalizing something even bigger.

I think meeting in Hanoi is significant and the Vietnamese are making a big deal about it. They want this to succeed in their nation to further ties with both the US and NK.

The conclusion of Jim's VDH column:

The establishment would like to fool itself that it came to its growing about-face on China thanks to a natural exhaustion of patience, or new data, or brilliant new exegeses. And that evolution may be in part true.

But far more likely, Trump’s early and relentless hammering on Chinese mercantilism, systematic cheating, and illiberality finally made the old status quo unsustainable in the face of mounting evidence.

The establishment is adopting Trump’s once-renegade stance toward China, and yet trying to immunize it from him all the same. So the end result seems something like the following: “That idiot Trump somehow now agrees with us on confronting China.”

Good read. The breadth of VDH's knowledge of human history gives him a unique ability to see the long game, to see the forest, not the trees.
