I don't think I am alone in having lost the plot on Brexit. Exit day is slated for March 29, which hits the Regional Weekend of March Madness and is right after Opening Day in baseball. Then April is big: baseball settles in, the NBA Playoffs, Avengers: Endgame, Game of Thrones... who has time for Brexit? Pushing it back a few months (or years!) is a great idea.
Daddy,
“That idiot Trump somehow now agrees with us on confronting China.”
That quote really hits home. I've lost count of the number of articles that echo that view.
I have reassessed my views on China, but Trump had nothing to do with it. Over and over again. Technology, military, economic, geo-political, etc.
China is an economic powerhouse, well maybe it isn't. North Korea is a Chinese pawn, well maybe it isn't. China's island defenses extend their military's reach, well maybe they'd just make really good US Marine bases after they are captured. Ad Infinitum.

Good morning!
I'm going to try and hangout here today as much as I can for international reasons (might be some interesting stuff going on today), for national reasons (anybody seen Stepin Fetchit Jussie, lately?), for Florida reasons (legislative session starts next week) but also for personal reasons.
Today is the birthday of my Georgia Peach; she would have completed her 86th year today. I had a professional videotape her funeral back in December 2017 and I only picked up my copy last week. Still can't watch it.
So . . . my mind will be drifting through memories all day. What better way to snap back to the here and now than to engage with you beautiful folks (and you rascals, too).
With that said, it's a beautiful day in creation and our President is making the most of it; let us do so as well as we rejoice and be glad in it.

henry,
No doubt. I kept my grandkids for many years so that they could be in their own home, and when they got older, come home from school to do their homework and then play.
I was grateful to be able to do that as I remembered when my son was small and worrying about child care.
I have no interest in a government-run child care system which will brainwash kids as early as 2 and will be supervised as well as the FBI.

Looks to me like the student loan thing is causing a lot of people to have second thoughts about signing up for a private, expensive school. That's a lot of people to lay off, and it seems to me that the school is getting smart before the bottom falls out.
Take the federal government totally out of all college aid, and universities will have to either lower costs dramatically (laying off large numbers of useless or actively harmful administrators and professors of toxic subjects), or go out of business.

But that is very clearly NOT the goal of anyone in government. emotionally healthy and self-sufficient citizens are not what any of our so-called "leaders" actually want.

And rse, she was such a phenomenal woman. Late into life she worked as a domestic for a fairly prominent Jacksonville / Orange Park blended family; white folks. Two attorneys, both Gators.
The couple were blessed with twins, a boy and a girl, just as my mother began her job with them. Their mother was overwhelmed by the twins, and the boy initially had a physical issue that required tremendous attention but between the two women, they shepherded him back to good health.
Both kids are now attorneys working in Jacksonville, both loved our mother as we did and both mourned her passing as much as we did.
A God-fearing woman, she was a seemingly bottomless pit of love and caring. But she had a bite, and when she balled up her fist with her index finger knuckle protruding just bit, you knew your ass had better cease and desist immediately!

Trump inspires hate the way highly successful and psychologically intrepid men do. I learned this personally by having an extremely successful and unorthodox father (a Manhattan CEO who reached a career pinnacle in his late 30s and was fulsomely praised and secretly despised, as I came to understand). There is no end they will not go to drag him down. This is a detestable fact of the human condition. Trump has chosen to operate in a power milieu of a particularly fierce and smelly orthodoxy (in Orwell's words) and of vindictiveness toward outsiders. They will not stop, and Trump has very little recourse within the system because they ALL are corrupt and resent and despise him as the outsider. He's in the toughest position imaginable for a leader in the modern world.

Across the U.S. transgender athletes are breaking barriers in high school, college, and pro sports and being embraced by teammates and fans. But resentments can still flare when transgender women start winning and dominating their sport.

Do tell. I am sure if I had trained all my life to perform at championship level and then a person who had matured AS A MAN with bigger bones, better upper body strength, and a longer stride came in and beat me, I would be a little bit resentful, especially since for years international sports tested testosterone levels of female athletes to make sure they weren't female impersonators.

a'mom-
I think your point fits with this from Harvard https://developingchild.harvard.edu/resources/what-is-epigenetics-and-how-does-it-relate-to-child-development/ . It also fits with the whole Social Determinants of Health theories being pushed to create program after program at all levels of government.
To answer your question, the public Company I was General Counsel of was bought out in 1997 when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I got a nice severance as they wanted to pick my brain and the acquiring company became a member of S & P 500 about a week after merger agreement with stock conversion ratio finalized was signed. Later one of my kids developed health problems that needed my full-time attention for a number of years.
I fell into the healthcare story because the analysis I had done in healthcare that let us create very effective contracts at controlling risk made me aware that a shift was going on in ed. Now I know why, health and education are two prongs of subjective well-being, the supposed purpose of governments in the 21st century.
On the issue of staying home, at a certain point you realize how many costs can be controlled by an ability to control expenses, such as always cooking at home instead of eating out.

Only Democrats could hate someone so much that they would try to disrupt nuclear peace talks with testimony from a convicted felon.

When asked why Democrats picked today to split screen slimy Michael Cohen when Donald Trump is in Vietnam trying to prevent nuclear war, @RoKhanna said, "The president picked today to go to Vietnam."
Oh wow. 🙄

That should read I fell into the education story, not healthcare. My ability to ask questions in public forums when I decided to shift the child with medical issues to a public high school started the process of politicians coming up to me afterwards and asking more questions. They then kept putting me in more situations where I had access to non-public info and I just started putting the pieces together.
The book was written because people kept saying to my face that "everyone needed acccess to what you just told me."

CH, take back E Ger medals? I suppose if someone bribed them to do so. Seems to be the only reason they do anything.
