Cocaine Mitch brings the crowd to its feet with his plan to bring the Ocasio-Cortez/Markey Green New Deal resolution to the Senate for a floor vote. How far out is that "plan"? The NY Times today presents an "ambitious" plan to achieve half as much in three times as long. Whoa, that is quite a gap between AOC and her cheerleaders - next time they might want to agree to appear in the same stadium.
Meanwhile, Sen. Markey cries foul!
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) accused Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) of trying to “sabotage” and “silence” voters by bringing the Green New Deal, which was also proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), to the Senate floor to vote on.
Uh huh. Voting on the bill is "sabotage". And if Trump were to sign it Pelosi would probably view it as an impeachable offense (mental incapacity?!?). What's Markey's message, "Stop me before I speak again"?
Now, let me have a To Be Fair moment: Markey might have envisioned committee hearings, expert testimony, and a chance to build public support for his pandering left-wing dreamscape. After which the bill would die in committee, where only a few sacrificial lambs from the Democratic side would have to stand and be slaughtered counted. But, ooops - now they will all have a chance at Auto-beclownment.
So, a possible dodge - Markey and the Dem Senate leadership could pull a page from the Mitch-Fu playbook and filibuster their own bill. Would that be even more embarrassing? Do these guys (and gals!) even know what embarrassment is anymore?
WHEN YOU'VE LOST THE TIMES: To give a sense of the uphill battle Markey and AOC face on this, let's segue to the NY Times, which has an interactive display outlining seven "ambitious" plans that could, together, cut US greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050. (50 by 50? That could soundbite! I'd give it a 50/50 chance... Now ask me about "Fifty-four Forty or fight"!)
First of all, 2050? The "goal" in the Markey/Ocasio-Cortez fantasy seems to be for the US to be net-zero at the end of their ten year plan, so maybe 2030 (my emphasis):
Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that—
1. it is the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal—
A. to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through a fair and just transition for all communities and workers;
...
2. the goals described in subparagraphs (A) through (E) of paragraph (1) (referred to in this resolution as the ‘‘Green New Deal goals’’) should be accomplished through a 10-year national mobilization (referred to in this resolution as the ‘‘Green New Deal mobilization’’) that will require the following goals and projects—
A. building resiliency against climate change-related disasters, such as extreme weather, including by leveraging funding and providing investments for community-defined projects and strategies;
B. repairing and upgrading the infrastructure in the United States, including— by eliminating pollution and greenhouse gas emissions as much as technologically feasible; by guaranteeing universal access to clean water; by reducing the risks posed by flooding and other climate impacts; and by ensuring that any infrastructure bill considered by Congress addresses climate change;
C. meeting 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources, including—
The first two steps of the NY Times plans include a carbon tax and a push for zero emissions power including nuclear. Carbon taxes are poo-poohed in the AOC FAQ. Nuclear is ducked in the resolution but is treated like a cow (a flatulent cow, not a sacred one) in the FAQs - kill 'em!

The first innovation in drug therapy for depression in over 30 years is a step closer to reality after an advisory panel at the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) recommended its approval Tuesday.
Developed by Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceutical company, Janssen, esketamine is a nasal spray containing a similar chemical makeup to ketamine, a popular club drug and widely used anesthetic during the 80’s and 90’s.

You think? 60 Minutes was always Obama's go-to media outlet to get his story out when he was unable to avoid a scandal. I expect this interview will be choreographed to the point McCabe has notes on when to breath, blink.
If we used that standard we couldn't read or watch 90% of the things that come out in the media. There's also a nugget or two that comes out that helps with the overall story.
McCabe is at the core of the whole Russia scam. He and Sally Yates subverted the FISA process to get the warrant on Page. We already have the testimony that proves it. He started a counterintelligence investigation into Trump 8 days after Comey, who has given testimony that is in direct opposition to McCabe about numerous issues, without DOJ sign off. He has also accused Rosenstein of offering to wear a wire on Trump.
McCabe is a lying, duplicitous piece of shit. He was fired for lying and leaking. But I find it interesting that he is giving a national interview right when Mueller is reported to be winding up his investigation and will likely report he found no evidence at all of Trump Russia collusion.
There has to be a reason he's sticking his head up now.

rse 9:09...
I scanned that piece and think the writer conflates true old fashioned "balloon framing" with modern wood framing and then equates the two from a fire standpoint.
"Balloon Framing" in the old days when very long native wood was available often entailed using 20' real 2x4's to stretch from the foundation up to the plates holding the rafters in a two storey house. Then they would nail a horizontal "ledger" around the inside (insetting it back but no through the vertical 20' 2x4s) onto which they would set the floor joists for the second floor. This design did in fact create an open vertical chase all the way from the basement up to the attic, and sure enough any half respecting fire in the basement would appear in the attic promptly. Poof.
But for decades now those long 2x4's are hard to find and are too expensive, so today they build a foundation and immediately lay floor joists and plywood from outside edge to outside edge of the foundation. Then they build walls for the first floor with top plates and bottom plates and tilt those up on the first floor. Then they repeat that for all the floors. The fire benefit is that no space in the walls extends farther that from floor to ceiling for each individual floor, and some codes even require horizontal "fire stops" halfway up each wall created no "chimney space" taller than 1/2 of a floor height.
All those apartment building shown in the article and all houses are built this way and have been for decade. "Chimneys" in the framing are a big no-no, even small cracks and open holes for wires and pipes.

Truth from Buckeye "Living and dying by the quarterly report drives lots of stupid behavior."
And that in turn began when quick jumps in share prices started to contribute more of the total return to the stockholder than did the dividends earned from making and selling real products over the long term...then that led to more shares being owned by "funds" than by little old ladies who paid attention, and those funds in turn were run by hotshots who shared in the quarter by quarter spikes.
Rinse and repeat, and you get us where we are today.

Buckeye, the author of China's tech transfer policy was at CWRU for a term. She was convinced the western companies would eagerly give away the store to get market access. Plus Clinton et al were in charge here. Stunning.
Henry, when MT started selling his rail technology to the Chinese almost 30 years ago, he had our guys sand the part numbers off the integrated circuits on the boards.
Try as they may, to this day they still have not reverse engineered it:)
They pressed me a couple times to cough up the IP, told them to eff off. Politely of course, while drinking their $2500/bottle "lighter fluid".
