Warren Supporter Explains Why He Walked Out of Her Announcement Speech

A former supporter of senator and presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren said he walked out of the speech announcing her candidacy because the Massachusetts Democrat was placing too much emphasis on raising taxes, and not talking enough about issues of equality and opportunity for minorities.

Johnhaynes Honeycutt says he previously was a Warren supporter, "But I found at the event there wasn't any way for me to identify with the things she was saying. That was why I walked out."

Bailing out of the speech by Honeycutt and his girlfriend caught the eye of many because speeches announcing a presidential candidacy are usually carefully managed to create positive images and avoid potential embarrassments.

"She's a small-town girl, and her family were blue-collar, and now she's in this position [as a presidential candidate]," he told the Washington Examiner. "Rather than taxing and fighting the rich and using that as her only focus, she should be focusing on opening up opportunities for the people that are in the same position she was once in," he added.

Honeycutt is African-American and also a small business owner in Massachusetts.

So he could veto and say, send me another bill without all the border crap and poison pills. If it takes a day or two, no big deal

jimmyk @ 1:45

I'm certain that was one of the options Trump's advisors presented to him. My guess is Trump knew that he had already won the political battle with Pelosi and Schumer. A veto and another government shutdown has less upside than the coarse of action he decided on especially when you know the Democrats are not going to give him the $5.7 billion he asked for.

Now thanks to going the national emergency route and diverting funds from elsewhere in the budget Trump still gets to force Chuck and Nancy to actively oppose his efforts to secure the borders via lawsuits, Congressional resolutions, etc all the way up to the 2020 election.

How would anyone wearing a wire with the intent to entrap Trump make it past Secret Service security stations without setting off an alarm?

Omarosa made it into the Situation Room with a "wire."

One would think that would be impossible.

cathyf

I would say that the whole “wear a wire” was or wasn’t “a joke” argument needs to be argued carefully. Because if this was said by Rosenstein as a sarcastic put-down, then that isn’t a “joke” it’s an “insult”.

In the movie script I’m writing in my head, when the rest of the coup plotters responded to Rosentein’s insult as if it were a serious suggestion of action, he thought, “OMG these f****** are totally nuts and this is treason!” And he headed straight over to the White House and offered to help Trump defeat them.

Notice that in my movie-script version nobody thought it was a “joke” and no one is lying when they say “ he wasn’t joking”

Jane

I can't believe Rosenstein is such an asshole that he is trying to hang on. At the very least he should have offered his resignation. Even if he's not guilty and was playing both sides against the middle he would have told Trump. He needs to resign today and be prosecuted tomorrow.

Chuck and Nancy don't have to oppose anything. Their outside groups like SPLC will do all the leg work if those two don't want to stain their hands anymore.

How much stain do the Forest Gump voters need anyways to be convinced of something that has been obvious for years?

Wasn't there a couple who invited themselves, and crashed a big event at the WH under Obama? No invitation only a Tux for him, and evening gown for her.

How about that guy who walked in the front door and got all the way to one of the first floor rooms?

Cap'n, I would never in a million years argue that the GOP is doing the best they can given the voters they have. I hate them as much as you do.

How come every time I suggest the voters are doing dumb things and that just might be because they have been taught wrong things, have wrong values, and have been brainwashed to think as they do...and that there are A LOT of them, you elect to attack me as if that as affirmation by me that GOP is A-OK and blameless.

You allow your hatred for the GOP to lead you to think any comment about the voters is a lazy excuse to support them. That is as big a straw man as you could get, given this is me, talkin.

What YOU tend to be blind to is that voters all over this country are downright happy with people and policies like Obama, Clinton, and now the new Progs are selling to them.

It is as easy to trigger this reaction from you as it is to trigger MM whenever anything critical of tactics by Trump is said.

Oh. And PS. Ronald Reagan won elections several generations (almost 40 years) ago when kids still had WWII parents helping them grow up, and older teachers in their schools still were able to teach things, and more of them and their parents went to church, and when 62 million households did not speak other than English at home.

Sure, Trump found some of them in enough places to win in the EC. He did not find as many votes as Hillary Clinton found by being the worst, and running the worst campaign in modern times.

I doubt that a single person who voted for Trump will not vote for him next time. I do question if that base has expanded, and you wonder who dies...I would suggest more Trump voters die than Hillary voters do, and I suspect that more voters come of age who like AOC than you think.

Now I will take my lazy ass back to my easy chair for a nap.

I can't believe Rosenstein is such an asshole that he is trying to hang on.

Perhaps Rosenstein knows the truth of what is actually going on?

At the very least he should have offered his resignation.

How do you know he hasn't and it was rejected by Trump? Trump had the opportunity to fire him when they rode together on AF1 right after the "wear a wire" story broke. Perhaps the fact Trump didn't fire him indicates maybe there is more to the story we don't know about?

He needs to resign today and be prosecuted tomorrow.

What crimes do you think he has committed?

jimmyk

until someone points out where a reasonably charismatic candidate running a coherent conservative campaign gets rolled, I'm just viewing that as more rationalizing by the Rove types

Also, there are benefits to running a losing but principled campaign. You put solid ideas out there that otherwise get treated as radioactive. Force people to argue against them. Better to have such a candidate get 40% than a RINO get 48%. Sometimes even better than having a RINO get 52%.

Reagan won in a landslide while Goldwater lost in one 16 years apart.

A perfect example. Goldwater had no chance in '64, but he put ideas out there that took hold 16 years later.

And OL, I don't think times have changed as much as you think they have. Reagan would have won in 2016 too (but for the small issue of his being dead for 12 years). Maybe he wouldn't have carried 49 states, but I think he would have won in a landslide. Easy to say, but it's just restating the point that a strong conservative candidate can win, especially after 8 years of prog disasters.

Captain Hate

Thank you, jimmyk. It's about promoting coherent ideas instead of blatant pandering. Frankly with what's going on in Venezuela now is a perfect time to advance free market economics as an alternative to state managed disasters.

CH, of course I understand OL is a bit older than us and maybe doesn't have time to wait around for ideas to take root. :)

Old Lurker

Tru dat, Jimmy. But in Goldwater's day we had time for planted seeds to grow and mature, just as they did when RR came around.

Goldwater was running when our National Debt was $300+ Billion, being well less than half our GDP. The debt we have now is 75 times bigger than that and about double as a share of our productivity. In 1964 the Baby Boom was in college and preparing to enter the work force, creating a demographic boom of young workers who could support old people but that ratio has no been flipped on its head. And the average IQ of the population was perhaps 5% higher then than it is now.

We don't have generations to plant all those seeds and watch them sprout as Goldwater did. Yes I was a Goldwater child, even then, as was my family.

Interesting thought about RR being able to win today.

Rolling back in time and running him now...would he have been the household name of conservative ideas that GE gave him for so long? Not a chance he could be running as a recent Gov of CA. Today he would not be running against the WWII-Depression era peers who had that common bond with him.

Heck, I don't know that through that time machine, JFK could get the Dem nomination today or win the general.

Fun to consider, though.

A snip from MissM's 1:10 (El Paso rally)
https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2019/02/new-mexico-in-play-in-2020.html

This tweet was posted a couple threads ago-
Parscale tweeted, "The El Paso rally had thousands of people from New Mexico. 70% Hispanic. 50% Democrat. 25% Independent. 25% Republican. 25% Didn’t vote in 2016. The left’s narrative isn’t working, Latinos support @realDonaldTrump in epic numbers."

Here's a couple bits that were new to me-
President Trump drew 30,968 people signing up online.
Parscale said every ticket was scanned and that 7,950 people were inside the El Paso Coliseum venue ... That gives him pertinent information such as name and address. For example, 23.2% said they have not voted in the last four elections. Only 20.4% voted in all four of the last elections.
If you are Democrat who drove from New Mexico to El Paso to attend a rally for President Trump nearly two years ahead of the election, chances are you will vote for him.

Ext, here's what I do, as with the Rosenstein photo above, which was something like 1200 x 700. Find the photo, save to my hard drive, open from wherever it got saved to to Irfan, resize it, save it to the original address (overwriting the big one), go to tinypic (dot com) and upload the photo, giving me a new properly sized http address to drop into JOM. Whole process maybe 30 seconds...definitely less than a minute.

Old Lurker

When relevant to the point, sure, MM, I can state what I think. I was telling Cap'n he gets "triggered" when I say "Pogo" and reacts in a certain way about the GOP. To make my point in a way that the most number of JOMers would understand, I made the analogy that I also "trigger" you just about every time I rant about Trump or some action or inaction and often that results in your taking me to task for not being the believer you are.

Note that I am not poking "you", I am poking the facade of blind loyalty, defensiveness, and protectionist tone you take when somebody, usually me, tries to be more arms length as I decide if I like or don't like what Trump is doing since that sort of position you take with him is not much different than the other side holds for their idols.

GILLIBRAND SIGNALS SUPPORT FOR TEARING DOWN THE BORDER WALL

Gillibrand, a 2020 hopeful, not only criticized President Donald Trump’s border wall, she said during a campaign stop in New Hampshire she does not know if the current fencing is “helpful or unhelpful.” She said she would look into tearing down any existing border walls or barriers. The New York Democrat also said Trump is trying to build the wall “to create a picture of division and hate and derision.”

MissMarple2

I don't think Brad Parscale is appreciated as much as he should be.

They really do have a huge database of supporters. Every time they have a rally you have to register with email and phone number to get tickets.

Every time there is an issue, I get a text on my phone asking me my opinion. (Also asking for donations, but that's ok. I have only donated small amounts twice since Novemeber 2016.) If I remember correctly, when they had the rally here they also asked for zip codes.

So the rallies both gin up enthusiasm and TV coverage, but they help them build a database with information like Parscale quoted from his data on New Mexico. I don't think the dems are able to do that, yet.

"AbstractThe Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University ofPennsylvania conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around theworld. Often referred to as the “think tanks’ think tank,” TTCSP examines the evolving role and character ofpublic policy research organizations. Over the last 27 years, the TTCSP has developed and led a series ofglobal initiatives that have helped bridge the gap between knowledge and policy in critical policy areas such asinternational peace and security, globalization and governance, international economics, environmentalissues, information and society, poverty alleviation, and healthcare and global health. These internationalcollaborative efforts are designed to establish regional and international networks of policy institutes andcommunities that improve policy making while strengthening democratic institutions and civil societiesaround the world. The TTCSP works with leading scholars and practitioners from think tanks and universities in a variety ofcollaborative efforts and programs, and produces the annual Global Go To think Tank Index that ranks theworld’s leading think tanks in a variety of categories. This is achieved with the help of a panel of over 1,796peer institutions and experts from the print and electronic media, academia, public and private donorinstitutions, and governments around the world. We have strong relationships with leading think tanks aroundthe world, and our annual think Tank Index is used by academics, journalists, donors and the public to locateand connect with the leading centers of public policy research around the world. Our goal is to increase theprofile and performance of think tanks and raise the public awareness of the important role think tanks play ingovernments and civil societies around the globe.Since its inception in 1989, the TTCSP has focused on collecting data and conducting research on think tanktrends and the role think tanks play as civil society actors in the policymaking process. In 2006, the TTCSPdeveloped and launched a pilot project named the global index of think tanks, designed to identify andrecognize centers of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research and in every region of the world. To date, TTCSP has provided technical assistance and capacity building programs in 85 countries. We are nowworking to create regional and global networks of think tanks in an effort to facilitate collaboration and theproduction of a modest yet achievable set of global public goods. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio slammed self-described socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., NY) Friday over her opposition to Amazon opening a headquarters in the city.

"As a progressive my entire life — and I ain’t changing — I’ll take on any progressive anywhere that thinks it’s a good idea to lose jobs and revenue because I think that’s out of touch with what working people want," de Blasio said, according to the New York Post.

"I came up watching the mistakes of progressives of the past, unfortunately what happened in this city when it almost went to bankruptcy in the 1970s," de Blasio continued. "I saw all the times progressives did not show people effective governance and all the times progressives made the kinds of mistakes that alienated working people."

"Working people are very smart and very discerning. They want jobs, they want revenue, they want the kinds of things that government can do for them," de Blasio added. "They understand they have to be paid for."

A spokeswoman for former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe denied that he ever suggested that the Department of Justice had considered the likelihood of President Donald Trump's own Cabinet invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. CBS News had first reported Thursday that McCabe had made that claim.

It's raining face-plants.

It's not that I don't agree with him, JiB. It's no secret I love Trump. It's just that typically speaking, a guy saying nice things about his boss is not really an independent endorsement, as MM suggested.

Well, Joe, just because you have a degree in Economics from Boston U, does not mean you are smart. I think her rationale, and approach is to forget your education, and just react as Lenin would have. Simple explanation.

Porch,

I didn't suggest it was an independent endorsement. Everyone knows Trump is his boss.

However, if Trump wasn't doing as Carson said, Carson would resign.

Carson didn't have to say anything at all, did he?

On Friday, McCabe spokeswoman Melissa Schwartz released a statement that said:

"Certain statements made by Mr. McCabe, in interviews associated with the release of his book, have been taken out of context and misrepresented. To clarify, at no time did Mr. McCabe participate in any extended discussions about the use of the 25th Amendment, nor is he aware of any such discussions. He was present and participated in a discussion that included a comment by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein regarding the 25th Amendment. This anecdote was not included in 'The Threat,' Mr. McCabe merely confirmed a discussion that was initially reported elsewhere."

sbw,

Not you, for God's sake, but all the bittering going on that has now stopped since it is Gin and Tonic time on the ledge, and Processco on the Verandah:)

I guess. Carson's got a good gig, for which I'm sure he's grateful, and Trump is grateful for his support. It's nice, just saying I don't give it too much weight.

This AOC stuff is really delicious. Should go well with cocktails tonight.

CNN reports that White House press secretary Sarah Sanders interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller's office.

Jack is Back!

I'll bet that interview with Sarah was special. She is sharp as a tack and I don't think even in a legal probe she will be uncomforatable but the lawyers interviewing her may be.

Porch,

Understand your reservation but having read his books and articles, I believe Carson is a stand up guy and very loyal. Remember, he is the guy that put Obama on the national spotlight for what he is and was at the Prayer Breakfast.
