Covington HS student Nick Sandmann and his high-powered legal team have begun filing defamation lawsuits.
Highlights of the claim:
The lawsuit claims The Post "ignored the truth" about the incident and says the paper "falsely accused Nicholas of ... 'accost[ing]' Phillips by 'suddenly swarm[ing]' him in a 'threaten[ing]' and 'physically intimidat[ing]' manner ... 'block[ing]' Phillips path, refusing to allow Phillips 'to retreat,' 'taunting the dispersing indigenous crowd,' [and] chanting, 'Build that wall,' 'Trump2020,' or 'Go back to Africa,' and otherwise engaging in racist and improper conduct. ..."Sandmann's attorneys accuse The Post of publishing seven "false and defamatory" articles about the incident between Jan. 19 and 21 and claim the paper "knew and intended that its false and defamatory accusations would be republished by others, including media outlets and others on social media."
Just comparing the initial WaPo account (ignore the Jan 22 dateline; the URL has a Jan 20 date) with the "It's More Complicated" walkback, one can see some problems for the defense.
AllahPundit is less optimistic that the WaPo is in trouble. DO let me add: I am a big fan of AllahP but I think he is misunderestimating the plaintiffs chances here. These are high-powered law firms that don't need the publicity and are clearly on a contingency fee. It won't be $250 million but they expect a payday. From the WaPo and others.
I LOVE A MYSTERY: The WaPo reports on the lawsuit but doesn't bother to link to any of the stories in question because democracy dies in darkness and they are all about transparency. Or something.

Agree, which is why I bring this over:
This is audio of Gorka interviewing Sara Carter. Worth the 11 minutes of your time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&v=qf9VIZj2hNM
Among other things, at the end they talk about why the unmasking investigation has been stymied: Obama converted en masse political appointees into civil servants so that they couldn't be pushed out. They are the "fifth column that is countering, that is slow rolling the congressional oversight function that is required by law of the intelligence community," says Gorka. Carter is very determined to stay on them, and she seems convinced that this will blow up within the year. I hope so.

Willie's GF caught Professor Althouse's eye when she appeared totally blindsided when asked about Smollett the other day. Insty linked to this post of hers, which has the video so you can see for yourself how totally unprepared she was to be questioned (which I think in and of itself disqualifies her for POTUS. At a minimum, indicates what role she thinks the press should play in her campaign!)

Well, when she's got MSM reporters giggling along with her on a shopping trip and picking outfits for her to try on, you can't really blame her for thinking the press' role is to be her lapdog.

Then string up McCabe until he reveals all the elected Dems in on the Russia scam.

A message from Chitown:
"The question that will go unasked is who was behind trying to create a Presidential Message at the expense of Chicago cops? With someone's full consent during the last few weeks of a mayoral race?
Who has that kind of clout in the African-American and Gay Community to try and pull that off?
Very short list."

She explained that he would need an x-ray and he said,I don't want an x-ray! The poor guy was frantic (a very verbal New Yorker). She talked him down, explained the insurance procedure,he called his dentist in NY to have files sent to FL and he's having his tooth extracted today. She was very calm and competent and my experience is that if a doctor's or dentist's office has an excellent front office, the insurance and other paperwork is easy.

anonamom, from last night's discussion and "Undoctored." I haven't read it (just excerpts), but my issue with that is the extremism. Eliminate all grains, 100%. Forever. Even if you cut back 90% you're a failure. Even if you cut back 100% for 6 months and then you have one cookie, you'll gain back all the weight you lost. You can't go out to a restaurant because who know what's in the food.
Maybe that's necessary for people with serious health issues. I consider myself pretty healthy and would just like to stay that way. I can't see upending my life.

I think if I polled most JOMers, especially those who have read Michelle Obama's Princeton thesis, most would say that her memoir was 100% ghost written. Here's a little letter from Moochelle explaining how important book clubs to her. What a phony industry the publishing world has become.

Porchlight,
Fascinating clues, for sure!
ChiTown says if things keep happening in the Smollett case, he wouldn't be surprised to see Harris suspend her campaign.
Another clue is that sudden appearance of Michelle Obama on the preferred candidate polling.

peter,
She got a HUGE advance for her memoirs. I don't remember how much, but it seemed far in excess of what would be expected from sales, even if her book was a best-seller.
I don't know much about the publishing business, but it seems to me a high number are privately held, which means they don't have to file reports for shareholders.

I think the biggest determining factor when on Medicare is the willingness of the Doc's to accept Medicare rates, which are crappy and getting crappier.
Since all my Docs are Ohio State Medical system guys, the decision is made, and I haven't had any issues, yet.
All of Mrs. Buckeye's Docs are private practice guys. I suspect we will have some issues when she goes Medicare in December.

I believe I have mentioned here before that when I was in college the Big Scare was a coming Ice Age, and that somehow it changed until by the mid-80's it had become Global Warming, which mystified me as I hadn't been reading all of the professional ppaers during that time period.
This guy has cataloged a bunch of headlines and news articles about what was being said to scare people in the 70's and then into the 80's. This is a VERY good article if you have someone trying to argue with you about "settled science."

Btw, I owe TK a partial apology for not adequately noting what he reported; the urine tinged comments from the glorified paralegal did in fact take happyfeet to task for not defending the inarticulate dunce in the comments at PJM and Instapundit. I somehow overlooked that howler among his rationalizing his traffic dropping like his IQ because happyfeet was driving his few remaining "friends" away. It also revealed that his deadenders send him messages complaining about other commenters like junior high school girls having their first periods.
I also sent an email to PJM telling them they were dumber than Red State for adding that oaf to their lineup. Another "smart online conservative site" repeating the same mistakes.

A-mom via James:
"Anonamom losted last night that doctors have to spend too much time following government and third party regs to actually read, and based on our experience with my mom this last week and the Medicare rules the hospital has cited for most of their decisions, that’s totally true.
I’d also say that the Medicare rules are designed to limit care and choices, which won’t be a surprise to anyone here."
Adding to everything A-mom says, as the father of a daughter in the midst of it all, I was not surprised, but was nonetheless deeply concerned when I read the story below, yesterday. Bottom line is that doctors have the highest suicide rate of all professions and not the least of contributing factors is the huge quantity of time docs have to spend fighting the computerized records monster. My daughter confirms the "typical 100 hours per week at the hospital" and says that does not count the prep time for presentations etc that are also expected. ("rules" limiting their weeks are a joke they all say, and complaining is the fastest way to the bottom of the barrel.) Her mother and I have both noted with concern how close to the surface are her tears these days.
And she's a rock star so imagine the others.
