Not everyone is surprised by this slow trainwreck coming:
Police sources: New evidence suggests Jussie Smollett orchestrated attack
Unless I've missed an update we are still in the "Sources Say" phase, but it's hard to see how Smollett explains this away.
Now, a Frequently Unasked Question: Smollett had received a threatening letter a week earlier, which the FBI was investigating. Also a hoax? {Rick Moran has more at PJ Media.]
And when did the alleged attackers become white? Neither the initial NY Times nor Ebony accounts mention that, nor is it brought up in Smollett's initial statement. IIRC, in some statement Smollett said he didn't know their race since they were bundled up against the cold.
MORE: TMZ said the attackers were white in their initial coverage and recently claimed they had that confirmed twice.

His major preoccupation has been on cultural issues and there he has half of the biscuit as well. Just as the top men pay lipservice to gop principles and only really roar when some one like trump asserts themselves so it is with the Church it seems to believe in little and demands less, this is how vipers can settle into its bosom for dozens of years. So is it with our fellow brothers of the Book. If they really focused on genesis through malachi and took it to heart the world would be a better place.

A 2014 article on the same.
In the 70's and 80's it did have a bad reputation. But as the community fell apart and buildings were abandoned the population decreased and so did the crime.
I think I told the story about the mushroom that drops spores and none grow within the circle. Each generation does the same thing so that the circle grows ever outward.
The Bronx was like that. Whole blocks of abandoned buildings were torn down. Builders started building in the center of the blight and people were confident about moving back into smaller buildings in what was now a new "safe" zone.

"A replication crisis has called into question results from behavioral (and other) sciences. Complaints have focused on poor statistical methods, the burying of negative results, and other “questionable research practices” that undermine the quality of individual studies.
But methods are only part of the problem, as Michael Muthukrishna and Joseph Henrich argue in a paper in Nature Human Behaviour this week. It’s not just that individual puzzle pieces are low in quality; it’s also that there’s not enough effort to fit those pieces into a coherent picture. “Without an overarching theoretical framework,” write Muthukrishna and Henrich, “empirical programs spawn and grow from personal intuitions and culturally biased folk theories.”

Pin,
A little late to an argument Narciso seems to have already demolished. I question that guy, whom I've never heard of and his contention that the US has sanctions against 1/3 of the world's counties.
Sanctions are a very broad term.
That we won't sell dual-use technology to some countries?
That we won't sell military arms to some countries?
That we refuse to issue visas to some countries that might, for instance, refuse to take back illegal aliens?
That we impose trade or financial restrictions on Russia, China, Venezuela, NK and others?
Anyway, countries choose what reserve currencies to hold in a rational and strategic way. It has to be highly liquid, stable, hold value without large fluctuations and be easily converted into other currencies.
That's the US Dollar. Some countries will hold a basket of currencies, but the US Dollar predominates.
Other reserve currencies might include Japanese Yen, Pounds Sterling, Euros, etc.
The Euro community once hoped it's currency would be on par with the US Dollar, but hasn't lived up to their hype. It's a small reserve currency.

Michael Goodwin at the New York Post does a nice dissection of the Amazon mess in Manhattan: Democrats are tearing themselves apart over Amazon
In his column he also mentions the Strand Book Store to help illustrate the Amazon mess:
...Consider the case of the famous Strand Book Store in Manhattan, a survivor despite how Amazon has cannibalized book sales. City officials wanted to landmark its store, a costly proposition for the owners, about the time Amazon got its incentive offers.
Strand owner Nancy Bass Wyden connected the dots lining up against her and in favor of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos.
“The richest man in America, who’s a direct competitor, has just been handed $3 billion in subsidies,” Wyden complained. “I’m not asking for money or a tax rebate. Just leave me alone.”
Being left alone is no longer an option in New York and other blue states. The only question is whether the government will become your partner — or shut you down unless you bend to its will.
Either way, capitalism is dead.

There's no excuse for the media to have fallen for Smollett's bizarre story as they did.
"fallen for it" gives them WAY too much credit as being decent human beings who are just a little to credulous.
They didn't CARE that it was obviously not true from word one; they saw an opportunity to bash the President and his racist, deplorable, homophobic, subhuman trash supporters, and they eagerly took it.
And that's why we haven't, and won't see anything remotely like an apology, because garbage people like us don't merit one.

There's a great survey of the whole 19th century British push for exploration in the Arctic, Africa and Antarctica called "Barrow's Boys". It's a breezy read, but it really does illustrate how totally ill-prepared many of these expeditions were for what they would face (and, not at all coincidentally, the few expeditions that were better thought-out actually accomplished their goals).

I particular liked this bit from the conclusion of the book:
Barrow's reign was finally over. It had started with one disaster – an expedition wiped out in Africa – and had wandered through tragedy and triumph to end with another – an expedition wiped out in the Arctic. Had it been a good reign? In the material balance of things, no, it had not.
Every single one of Barrow's goals had proved worthless in the finding: Timbuctoo was a mud town of no importance; the Niger had little practical application for trade; northern Australia was totally unworkable as the site of a ‘second Singapore'; Antarctica was an inhospitable lump of ice; and the North-West Passage – as Scoresby and others had repeated so wearily – was an utter waste of time. The Open Polar Sea, meanwhile, was not only not worth finding but not even there to be found – although, in Barrow's defence, its absence was only proved in 1909.
Almost everything about Barrow's missions had been wrong – the orders, the ships, the supplies, the funding and the methods. Perhaps no man in the history of exploration has expended so much money and so many lives in pursuit of so desperately pointless a dream.
