Good morning,JOM! Thanks.

"It is necessary to theorize our society critically if we are to have a vehicle for correctly informed transformative practice."

Like they theorized Globall Warming and came up with the Green Leap Forward?

MissMarple2

Good morning!

Excellent article, clarice!

Another Bob

The contemporary search for a genuinely critical theory and an authentically democratic society continues that project. But what can make theory critical, education liberating, society democratic?

It is necessary to theorize our society critically if we are to have a vehicle for correctly informed transformative practice.

“Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish... it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age!”

Senator Richard Burr, The Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, just announced that after almost two years, more than two hundred interviews, and thousands of documents, they have found NO COLLUSION BETWEEN TRUMP AND RUSSIA! Is anybody really surprised by this?

rse

It is also grounded in kenneth boulding's work https://epublications.marquette.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=1011&context=econ_workingpapers">https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=1011&context=econ_workingpapers">https://epublications.marquette.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=1011&context=econ_workingpapers , his theory of Ecodynamics: A New Theory of Societal Evolution, and his Spaceship Earth lecture http://arachnid.biosci.utexas.edu/courses/THOC/Readings/Boulding_SpaceshipEarth.pdf

People like aoc never grasp that these theories are not factual, but metaphors to control the imagination to prompt desired behavior.

Precisely like the Green Leap Forward. remember anthony giddens wrote it doesn't matter if global warning is true or not if it is the rationale for desired public policy changes. Those changes and seeing that they are implemented at the social, eco, and political level are the true purpose.

catsmeat, I just gave my 97-1/2 year old Mom Dorothy Sayers’ "Nine Tailors" to re-read as something to do.

She said when she originally read it it, and Sayers, was a positive influence on her life.

This is a quote that links what I do with what the Green New Deal or calls for Equity really seek. It is from Boulding's book, which I had been mulling over recently. It has a subheading: "Humans Form Images of the Future, Decisions, and Purpose".

"Another capacity of the human minde, which is of great importance in the genesis of human artifacts, is the capacity for forming complex images of the future, as a product perhaps of the larger capacity of forming images of space and time. The capacity for forming images of the future is a necessary prerequisite for behavior directed toward fulfilling them."

I' ll stop the quote to point out that virtually all ed reforms are now geared to manipulating this capacity, while misrepresenting, in a Bipartisan manner, that this is what learning standards are designed to do. It goes to the heart of what was really going on in the Reading Wars or arguments over math and science instruction.

One more quote and this goes to the heart of why these theories like CAGW or White Privilege arise in the first place. "What is even more important than the capacity for forming images is the capacity for changing them in the light of future information inputs.

Nice "Pieces," Clarice. I'd missed that quote by CH. It seems that Northam and Herring at least will get the Democrat "Get out of jail free" card.

On my yahoo finance page it says
"— Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren made her bid for the presidency official on Saturday in this working-class city, grounding her 2020 campaign in a populist call to fight economic inequality and build "an America that works for everyone.""

IMO, that it makes no sense to have a woman running for President who has gotten money for years by claiming she is 1/1024% of what she claimed to be.
My guess: when she is defeated she will end up with more money than she started with.

Tom Bowler

O-Corrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtez, is not going to age well. I do not mean her looks, I mean her DOG and PONY SHOW. She is your typical college student, who opened her first text book, and now is an expert on everything. Imagine being a GROWN UP, experienced adult, parent, professional, and now Congress member, and having to sit through that childish little presentation. The BARTENDER is quite sure, that she is a GENIUS.

Posted by: GUS | February 09, 2019 at 11:58 PM

GUS, Perfect take on AOC. But I'm not so sure she'll be a one-termer. Obama was also an expert on everything. He even told us so. Said he knew more about foreign policy than any of his advisors. Wrote better speeches than any of his speech writers. God, he was wonderful. You had his word for it, and you could take that to the bank. And we had him for two terms.

Sounds like ledge talk, but actually, I think I belong on the veranda. I've been thinking about the discussion a few threads back about the preference cascade. I think it's been going on in slow motion in the U.S. for some time now. I say slow motion, because it's too difficult to hide the truth of what's going on nowadays, even with MSM distorting the news, Hollywood serving up the prog narrative in dramatized form, and tech giants doing everything possible to filter internet content.

Trump may be saving us from a shooting civil war. Imagine Hillary in the White House. Imagine FBI corruption swept under the rug, Clinton Foundation money affecting everything, the southern border open, and voter ID verification outlawed. Tensions would be a bit higher. Conservative dissatisfaction would off the charts.

Instead, little by little the truth about the corruption that we suspected but could only watch helplessly, comes out as fact. Something is happening on the fronts I mentioned above. We're not there yet, but we're moving in the right direction. Acting AG Whitaker just testified that the Horowitz and Huber investigations are alive and well. It looks like Trump's going to get us some wall. Voter ID laws have been standing up in court. Trump will most likely get to nominate another Supreme Court Justice, maybe more than one. The Senate is in Republican hands, and Lindsey Graham has come over from the dark side.

Trump has been doing a masterful job of blunting the prog narrative and replacing it with his own. Our own. The SOTU had a 72 or 76 percent approval. Rasmussen has Trump at 50 as of Friday. The preference cascade is picking up some speed, but I don't think it culminates in armed revolution. I'm thinking electoral landslide in 2020. Weirdness and vitriol from the left is so intense because they see it too.

Risky for me to say, I know. My predictions are usually the kiss of death.

Hmmm. Went off on a tangent there.

Jack is Back!

Bravo Zulu, Clarice, another "delicious of prog tears" read.

Northam is the latest Yossarian, where he has no good choices. Either resign or live as a disgraced governor bringing down your party to the sewer level. And the irony of kerfuffle started by a photo of blackface in a yearbook, could result in the resignation or impeachment of a black politician.

We are living in interesting times thanks in large part to Trump, and his snakebit opposition in both parties.

Tom Bowler, I'm with you.

"A Conversation with Stacey Abrams: Race and Political Power in the United States".

The candidates in the 2018 midterm elections were among the most diverse set to run in the history of the United States and included a number of African-American candidates in local, state, and national elections. Among those candidates was Stacey Abrams, who ran to become the nation’s first African-American female governor. Despite a narrow defeat in the Georgia race, Abrams and her campaign launched a new national conversation about the importance of voting rights by shining a light on voter suppression efforts in Georgia. As a result, there is a new focus on ending what Abrams called “systematic disenfranchisement” of African-American voters and other voters of color in America. It was recently announced that Abrams will deliver the Democratic response to the president’s 2019 State of the Union address.

On February 15, as part of the Brookings Institution’s celebration of Black History Month, Abrams will discuss the increasing political power of African-Americans after the 2018 elections and the tensions that may arise as the African-American electorate and candidates claim more political space. She will be joined in conversation by The New Yorker’s Jelani Cobb. Following their discussion, both speakers will answer questions from the audience.

This event will be live webcast.

No, she is not going away. Reminds me of Aspen's RETOC-Racial Equity Theory of Change. Of course, the Rock F supports Aspen and created Brookings as their think tank .

tracybeanz has started her own web site due to threats of banishment from Twitter. This is the first in a series of articles by Harold Finch, a good guy I used to follow on Twitter who also got banned like Thomas Wictor.

It's a good background on Mueller and Comey and the stuff they were involved in way before Trump.

MissMarple2

Tom Bowler,

I agree with you. One thing that has struck me is how President Trump has citizen investigators and citizen reporters, who seem to have sprung up out of nowhere, and are willing to devote countless hours to helping him and defending him from attack.

We never saw that before, even when Bush 43 was wildly popular and we were reeling from the 9/11 attacks.

It's really quite inspiring to see all of these people from widely different backgrounds come together.

Chances are if that guy's channel is monetized all the money that video made went to the songwriter/s.

You know how they have laws against people profiting from crimes? I suppose he can legally take money from donations and Patreon.
