Mueller would indict Harris for such sloppy memory.

daddy

Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris admitted to marijuana use in college and then messed up her timeline, saying she toked up while listening to rappers who made the scene while she was a Deputy District Attorney in Oakland. Oops!

Reminds me of her Dem colleague and Presidential hopeful, Senator Spartacus Booker. He wrote that OpEd about laying on that bed in 1984 and groping some young woman's breasts while the slogans from the Movie "Top Gun" (which wasn't made until 1986), were racing through his head saw hard that he said he could never forget it.

Odd how these Dem Presidential hopefuls of color have such a problem with temporal displacement. If I didn't know better I'd think they might be lying.

Good Morning.

daddy,

I didn't catch Harris's lie since I don't know beans about rap music. It was only when I was listening to a podcast by a guy in his 30's that I found out the time line was wrong.

All ages are contributing to the battle, which I think is neat.

Dave (in MA)
Pop music has been meticulously produced for decades, but the recent examples are so removed from the act of performing that you’re struck by the artifice before anything else.

If the hook’s good, it’ll draw you in. But if there’s no hook, just bass and samples and some one talking quickly about their various incontrovertable atttributes, it’s junk. It may have sociopolitical importance for future historians, but it’s narcissistic anti-music. Ninety-nine percent of everything is crap, as the saying goes, but of the 1% of rap that's good, 99% of that is crap. Says me, anyway.

New Years Eve 1984 I will never forget. I was 15. As the ball dropped I leaned over to hug a friend and she met me instead with an overwhelming kiss.
As we fumbled upon the bed, I remember debating my next "move" as if it was a chess game. With the "Top Gun" slogan ringing in my head, I slowly reached for her breast. After having my hand pushed away once, I reached my mark.

From Miss M's 08:20

“I did inhale,” said Harris, before adding that Snoop Dogg and Tupac were her artists of choice for blazing.

The only problem is that both hip-hop legends released their debut albums in the early ’90s—years after Harris graduated from both undergrad and law school.

“So either Harris was baked enough to time travel or she hit the bong after being in school,” wrote libertarian Nick Gillespie in an article for Reason. “Not cool for a candidate whose slogan is ‘speaking truth, demanding justice.’ Most likely, she’s just trying to curate a playlist that sends the right message.”

Didn't Al Gore have a similar story? Such as singing pro-worker folk songs before they were composed or something?

Even Slo-Joe Biden. He had a false memory about the car accident which killed his wife, no?

My theory is not a time machine. No, I think that when a Dem achieves a certain level of prominence they attend a party where they are dosed with some powerful drug. Afterwards their memory never quite works correctly (nor other segments of mental capacities).

The big blowhard spread it so thick, that the daughter of the truck driver went to court to make him STFU, at least about that.

daddy

Iggy,

I know nothing whatever about your profession, but the first graph from Wiki on the Woolemi mentions coppice's which I don't recall having heard about before:

Wollemia nobilis is an evergreen tree reaching 25–40 m (82–131 ft) tall. The bark is very distinctive, dark brown and knobbly, quoted as resembling Coco Pops breakfast cereal.[5] The tree coppices readily, and most specimens are multiple-trunked or appear as clumps of trunks thought to derive from old coppice growth, with some consisting of up to 100 stems of differing sizes

Clicking on "coppices" I came to this interesting link: Coppicing

Thanks, Clarice.

Glad to be able to pay you back in a small way for all your wonderful Pieces, tho' I do expect a full book report on your upcoming Peru Adventure!

Since I'm on an Aussie riff thought these paragraphs from that 1902 diary I've been reading (We Of The Never Never) from that White woman living in an isolated Northern Territories cattle range hundreds of miles from anywhere, were fascinating. "Lubra's" is a slang term for Aboriginal women, "boys" the term for the Aboriginal men.

(page 131) It was a merry camp that night---merry and beautiful and picturesque. The night was very cold and brilliantly starry, as nights usually are in the Never-Never during the Dry; the camp-fires were all around us: dozens of them, grouped in and out among the gundies, and among the fires---chatting, gossiping groups of happy-hearted human beings.

Around one central fire sat the lubras, with an outer-circle of smaller fires behind them: one central fire and one fire behind each lubra, for such is the wisdom of the black folk; they warm themselves both back and front. Within another circle of fires chirruped and gossiped the "boys", while around an immense glowing heap of logs sat the white folk---the "big-fellow fools" of the party, with scorching faces and freezing backs, too conservative to learn wisdom from their humbler neighbours.

I love stuff like that, and if anyone can come up with what that word gundies means, I'd be much obliged.

Narciso79

On recollection he was played by Rick Mayall

Cool, Ig. Thanks. One of the videos I just watched on the Woolemi says that a reason it is able to be sold in America to private citizens is that it's reproduction rate is so slow it is not considered an "Invasive Species," even though it does apparently "coppice readily."

Hi, JMH!

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

Although, if the warra meant water and gundi meant rock, perhaps the area was strewn with boulders.
Then the fires would have been out among the rocks which sounds sensible. But just hand-wavy.

daddy

Iggy, I don't think toffee works in context.

Jim,

Good guesses. I'm wondering if definition number 4 here, borrowed from the Punjab, might apply:

4. Report of the Land Revenue Settlement of the Dera Ismail Khan District of by Punjab Settlement Commissioner's Office, H. St. G. Tucker (1879)
"Some of these lots have been subdivided among the sub-sections or gundies, others are held in common. As a rule the same proprietary shares run through all ...

Maybe that refers in some way to small clumps of territory? The authoress even tells us that she has a name given to her by the Native women but she never can figure out what it means, so there's a lot of head-scratching when reading this book:)
