Some here might not like Andrew Sullivan. I seldom read him now, he was more interesting in the distant past. But as a Catholic gay, as he describes himself, talking about the openly gay, apparently agnostic Martel's new book, "In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy." He makes the following point.
"Martel is taken aback by the way in which many of his interviewees openly hit on him and, especially, his young assistant. Being gay, he notices things a straight reporter might not. His ears prick up when Cardinal Burke’s assistant casually informs him of the archenemy of Francis: “She works from home.” He sees the cruising all around him. He notices simple things that some might call innuendo, but any gay man will instantly recognize, like the fabulous interiors of the gay cardinals’ palaces, always with their “assistants” or young “relative” on hand."
I don't agree with some of Sullivan's later comments in the article. A gay man riffing on what another gay author might be able to intuit during an interview makes a great deal of sense to me.
"It’s a bewildering and vast piece of reporting — Martel interviewed no fewer than “41 cardinals, 52 bishops and monsignori, 45 apostolic nuncios, secretaries of nunciatures or foreign ambassadors, 11 Swiss Guards and over 200 Catholic priests and seminarians.” He conducted more than 1,500 interviews over four years, is quite clear about his sources, and helps the reader weigh their credibility. He keeps the identity of many of the most egregiously hypocritical cardinals confidential, but is unsparing about the dead."
The scope of the reporting boggles this mind.
Just so we're clear about me, I don't care where a priest's sexuality tendencies fall as long as he keeps to his vow of chastity. If he can't, and is willing to break a vow made to his Maker, he should leave the priesthood.
The message that should go out is you will be chaste, or chased right out of the church.
"Which raises an interesting question – Who has the authority to offer the kind of cultural harangue my Friday post concluded we are in desperate need of? The answer, of course, is The Church. But too often it seems that the church is not merely unwilling to exercise its authority, but unable to accumulate the authority to begin with."

Clearly you are implying that HE BUILT THAT without a bailout from OBAMA.
CNN's Military expert says the following: “Outside of perhaps routine weapons qualifications, I can’t say I have ever seen leaders at this level fire live weapons,” CNN Diplomatic and Military Analyst Ret. Rear Admiral John Kirby said in an email, writing that the incident was “not the best optic.”
You'll remember Admiral Kirby as this douche-bag Obama spokesman:
But of course douche-bag Kirby won't remember this guy.
Abraham Lincoln personally test-fired rifles outside the White House. Lincoln was a hands-on commander-in-chief who, given his passion for gadgetry, was keenly interested in the artillery used by his Union troops during the Civil War. Lincoln attended artillery and cannon tests and met at the White House with inventors demonstrating military prototypes. Although there was a standing order against firing weapons in the District of Columbia, Lincoln even test-fired muskets and repeating rifles on the grassy expanses around the White House, now known as the Ellipse and the National Mall.
In 1863 if CNN had been around I suppose the optics would have been awful.
It is a very surprising fact that characters should reappear after having been lost for many, perhaps for hundreds of generations. But when a breed has been crossed only once by some other breed, the offspring occasionally show a tendency to revert in character to the foreign breed for many generations – some say, for a dozen or even a score of generations. After twelve generations, the proportion of blood, to use a common expression, of any one ancestor, is only 1 in 2048; and yet, as we see, it is generally believed that a tendency to reversion is retained by this very small proportion of foreign blood.

A group of former national security officials are set to issue a statement criticizing President Trump's national security declaration, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
The 58 former senior national security officials signing on to the statement include former secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and John Kerry, former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, former State Department counselor Eliot Cohen and former Ambassador to the U.N. Thomas Pickering.
==============================
Well, the big guns of this group sure don't impress me much. Like I give a hoot about Kerry and Hagel's opinion on this.
They sure do seem to be upset that Trump is tightening the border, don't they?

We have a State of Emergency at our Southern Border. Border Patrol, our Military and local Law Enforcement are doing a great job, but without the Wall, which is now under major construction, you cannot have Border Security. Drugs, Gangs and Human Trafficking must be stopped!

Highly respected Senator Richard Burr, head of Senate Intelligence, said, after interviewing over 200 witnesses and studying over 2 million pages of documents, “WE HAVE FOUND NO COLLUSION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA.” The Witch Hunt, so bad for our Country, must end!
Our stupid, smug, historically-illiterate ruling class will be surprised when they learn, the hard way, just how much they have made us hate them.
And when they beg to return to the civility paradigm they destroyed for their own fleeting advantage, we will sneer and laugh.

Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!
former secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and John Kerry, former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, former State Department counselor Eliot Cohen and former Ambassador to the U.N. Thomas Pickering
All people who steadfastly worked against the interests of their country, and in Kerry’s case committed literal treason during a time of war.
H G Wells was a Final Jeopardy answer last week. All three missed it, but I didn't. His birth year was part of the clue, and their choices weren't even in the right century.
It astonishes me when middle-aged white people get rap clues and miss easy ones.
The example of Pat Buchanan is certainly in the minds of many of us of a certain age; impossible to win, eminently possible to wound,” Rick Wilson, a Republican consultant and leading Trump foe, told the Washington Examiner.
Why on earth would anyone, regardless of their political views, ever hire this guy, for anything, ever?
"So people are like, 'Oh it's unrealistic. Oh it's vague. Oh it doesn't address this little minute thing,'" she added. "And I'm like, 'You try. You do it. Cuz you're not. Cuz you're not. So, until you do it, I'm the boss.' How about that?'"
No, she’s not the boss of anyone. She is the representative, not the boss, for 100,000 or so people who TEMPORARILY loaned her the power to be one out of 435 people who writes and votes on laws, which then require the appeoval of the Senate, and the signature of the President, and likely the stamp of approval from various federal courts after the inevitable lawsuits over any significant legislation.
Which means she is no one’s boss, and it’s only the fact that our press corps and her Democrat colleagues are as ignorant and arrogant as her that she can get away with saying crap like that.
The allies of the former national security officials are doing their thing:
@iranianforum:
Code Pink leaders in Tehran today, getting advice, guidance and support from the always "progressive & anti-Imperialist" leaders of Islamic Republic. Soon, they will be back in US with more energy to defend the Mullahs' regime
What's interesting to me is that the press seems to think that it's just swell that she says stuff like that. They don't seem to realize that it infuriates the average person and wins the left even more enmity from people like us.
The press are all high-fiving themselves over statements like this, when if they really understood, they would be quashing it.

Pres Trump will be leaving for Hanoi just after noon, 21 hour trip. 8,300 miles. He told the governors dinner last night, he'll have the chance at his summit with Kim to achieve "total denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula, but added, "let's see what happens."
As Todd McMurtry @FitLwyr and I embark on our fight for justice for Nicholas Sandmann, I am mindful every day of what the FBI & media did to Richard Jewell. Watch this 22 minute documentary and never forget Richard. I will not. I miss him every day.
I hope our great Republican Senators don’t get led down the path of weak and ineffective Border Security. Without strong Borders, we don’t have a Country - and the voters are on board with us. Be strong and smart, don’t fall into the Democrats “trap” of Open Borders and Crime!
Hi, daddy--the book is too expensive to buy ($130) so send me an email at l white 4 at unl.edu (without spaces) and I'll send you the book as an attachment--you could read it on the computer or print the bits you want out. Chapters 2 and 3 are most about Victorian science.
GUS, I'll send it to you too. It's pretty plain from the evidence that Darwin's theory followed from his convictions about God's non-existence (chiefly, he could not imagine a God who would design a world as cruel as this). The science came after the ideology. (This happens a lot in the world.)
The video I posted at 8:01 is 21 minutes long but it has Lin Wood speaking about Richard Jewell so you get a taste of his persona and why I'm so glad he's representing the Sandmann teen.
(It's also infuriating to see how Jewell was treated!)
Ah Pickering a lobbyist for niac, who ran interference for Hillary on the review panel, Hagel whose foundation was lavishly supported by the alamoudis the two buffalo brothers and the one olayan daughter.

What a perfect example of the rigid, incurious mind of the ideologue detached from reason and humility.
The thought never occurs to the buck toothed bimbo that "it" might not have to be done at all. The prejudices and biases in her tiny world are a given she thinks the rest of us have to accept out here in the real one.
And make no mistake, by "it" she means only some variation of the authoritarian imposition of a socialist energy economy because in her world that is the only theme on which variations are allowed to exist.
Dan Gilbert owns QUICKEN amongst other things. He owns the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS.

I again say that the FBI needs to be dismantled and investigations handed over to the Federal Marshals, if they cannot be handled by local law enforcement.
That documentary about Jewell infuriated me even more.
My daughter is interested in finding a new job but is worried she isn't smart enough. (She seriously told me that - she's having a bad day.)
All I could think about was pointing to Occasional Cortex, but I didn't do it because she's a dem like my daughter. I just told her that she was way smarter than a lot of people who have high-paying jobs.

Ex-national security officials to issue statement slamming Trump's emergency declaration: WaPo
© UPI Photo
A group of former national security officials are set to issue a statement criticizing President Trump's national security declaration, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
The 58 former senior national security officials signing on to the statement include former secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and John Kerry, former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, former State Department counselor Eliot Cohen and former Ambassador to the U.N. Thomas Pickering.
==============================

All people who steadfastly worked against the interests of their country, and in Kerry’s case committed literal treason during a time of war.

Re that latest AOC quote:

James D.,
What's interesting to me is that the press seems to think that it's just swell that she says stuff like that. They don't seem to realize that it infuriates the average person and wins the left even more enmity from people like us.
The press are all high-fiving themselves over statements like this, when if they really understood, they would be quashing it.
