If nobody answered Jim on the last thread I will here;
Stephanie Kelton and it is not her alone; she's just the most photogenic proponent of it.
It being MMT; Modern Monetary Theory. It's decidedly questionable just how modern robbing Peter to pay Paul is however.

I knew that Northam was staying after last Saturdsy’s Presser.
He has plausible deniability wrt the photo in the yearbook.
That was all he needed.
He lied during the campaign.
He won’t leave voluntarily.
The Richmond newspaper sees the handwriting on the wall.
What do these Virginia pols care about the Dem national ticket in 2020.
Fairfax’s fate is less certain.
Of course Herring stays because Northam remains.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

There is less than zero chance the Dems would can all three of those dopes and put a Rep in charge of Virginny.
Were the party rolls reversed on the other hand...

WTH?! @LindseyGrahamSC told @MariaBartiromo that part of the negotiations for border wall funding is Dems want to reduce the number of beds in ICE detention centers for violent criminals. Is this so they can release them into our cities? This makes us safer how exactly?!

Assuming Lisa heard this correctly, I would like to know the rationale behind this, too.

Road to the White House: @amyklobuchar announcement in Minneapolis, MN – LIVE at 2:30pm ET on C-SPAN https://cs.pn/2tlBqip

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

And another six inches of snow this morning.
Church cancelled.
You ought to see Californians drive in snow.
Actually even people from back East seem to take a bit of time adjusting to our relatively heavy wet stuff.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Why don't Democrats just post a list of all those Dems NOT running for pres?
Save a lot of ink.

matt - deplore me if you must

So the whole Northam crisis revolves around his blackface rather than his call for the mass murder of infants. This guy is worse than Herod and the press snoozes.

That the Church (all of us of faith) as a whole has not called for his and Cuomo's excommunications and shunning is indicative of the moral weakness at the top.

These people are monsters. The NY Post reported that a man who brutally murdered his pregnant girlfriend, repeatedly stabbing the infant, had the charges dropped for the infants homicide because of Cuomo's new law.

Infants are now unpersons. Under the new rules soon enough it will be the elderly, the halt and the lame as well. Margaret Sanger's vision will be achieved. Only right thinking drones and their overlords will remain. This is what it means now to be a Democrat.

MissMarple2

The last time I remember this many democrat candidates was the 1960 primary. I watched the convention at night while I was at a journalism conference for junior high kids at IU.

peter

Why should Northram, Fairfax and the third schmuck resign when Liz Warren can run for President with impunity. Shame is such an outdated concept.

Regarding Hate's beer reference in the early pre-dawn hours on the previous thread, "Evil Twin Brewing" has listed as its address an apartment on the 14th floor of a high rise near the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. Are they really brewing in an apartment?

Lastly, is anyone else bothered by the redundancy of "Don't stop believing?" Wouldn't it be more concise to just state, "Believe?"

Also, how did the Duke basketball team shoot 61% from beyond the three, when all season they averaged 29% from that distance?

I don’t think the Dems on the Border Committee are being allowed by their leaders to make a deal. They are offering very little money for the desperately needed Border Wall & now, out of the blue, want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention!

It was a very bad week for the Democrats, with the GREAT economic numbers, The Virginia disaster and the State of the Union address. Now, with the terrible offers being made by them to the Border Committee, I actually believe they want a Shutdown. They want a new subject!

Tom Bowler

One thing that has struck me is how President Trump has citizen investigators and citizen reporters, who seem to have sprung up out of nowhere, and are willing to devote countless hours to helping him and defending him from attack.

We never saw that before, even when Bush 43 was wildly popular and we were reeling from the 9/11 attacks.

It's really quite inspiring to see all of these people from widely different backgrounds come together.

Posted by: MissMarple2 | February 10, 2019 at 10:29 AM

I agree. I think Trump won his legion of defenders because he was willing to defend himself. That was something neither Bush 43 nor Bush 41 were willing to do, and Trump learned from their experiences.

Remember how quickly the Democrats turned from voting to invade Iraq to unanimously opposing the War. Whiplash. But the Dems had a plan. They ignored all other points in that resolution, and said their vote was on the danger from Iraq's WMD. In retrospect I wonder if the Dems had CIA help in formulating their argument. Then with lots of media help it was all about Bush lying about WMD. Bush did a lousy job pushing back on that.

Trump learned from Bush, but he already knew he had to fight the Dems. And he did by pushing back on Dems PC narrative in the most obnoxious way possible. Early on it seemed he always picked the most insulting, in your face way to retaliate against an attack. Since then he's moderated a bit.

But he fights, he knows how to win, and he knows what stance is most likely to help him win. I also think he knows he has to win, and we know he has to win. And that's why he gets the help that Bush didn't get or the help that Bush wouldn't take. You don't hear much about the Army of Davids that Glenn Reynolds used to talk about, but they, we, were there. Still are.

Hmmm. Another tangent.

MissMarple2

Tom Bowler,

I enjoy your tangents. Keep 'em coming!

MissMarple2

It is snowing here again. Pretty heavy right now - haven't seen the forecast yet to see how much we are supposed to get.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--The NY Post reported that a man who brutally murdered his pregnant girlfriend, repeatedly stabbing the infant, had the charges dropped for the infants homicide because of Cuomo's new law.--

Stop and think about that for a minute.
Now not only does the mother have control of "her own body", but apparently a boyfriend, or some violent stranger, can come along, stab a woman and kill the baby presumably even on the way to the delivery room and the mother who wanted her new little son or daughter apparently will receive no legal relief for having her child murdered. Nor will her husband or family and, most importantly, the child himself.
Is there some way for NY Dems to correct this obviously insane consequence? Does the baby magically become a human being with rights if it is a third party killing it rather than mom? They can never admit that, because even a toadstool, or Joe Biden, can recognize the irrationality of that. If it is magically a human being when a stranger kills it, clearly it is a human being when mom does too, and so as pro lifers have always maintained abortion is simply a legalized form of slavery and ownership of another human being.

D

Pagar:
Leave it to Durbin to insert a poison pill when on the brink of a deal.
I still think they get there.
Shelby doesn’t seem to want to give the win to the Dems
Remember back in the day, it was originally Durbin’s Dreamer Act that passes the Senate but was then stopped in the Repub House of either Boehner or Ryan.
Somehow they never get credit for stopping that amnesty deal cold.

Willie Brown Throws Shade at Ex-Girlfriend Kamala Harris: Can’t Beat Trump

Make no mistake, President Trump’s State of the Union address was the kickoff for his 2020 re-election campaign, and so far I’ve yet to see a Democrat who can beat him.

[T]he overnight polling after the speech showed that once again, he connected with voters, at least enough voters to make him a 2020 favorite.

You can’t say the same for the Democratic contenders. They all have impressive credentials, winning personalities and positive messages, but none displays the “people personality” that our media-savvy president has mastered.

Georgetown University Students May Face Student Fee to Pay Slavery Reparations

According to a report from The College Fix, students at Georgetown University will soon be voting on a referendum that would create a fund to pay slavery reparations. The fund would grow each year based on a $27.20 fee for each student at the university.

The New York Times published a column on Georgetown University’s connection to slavery in 2016. According to the column, Georgetown sold 272 slaves in 1838 to help pay off their debts. The sale was worth $3.3 million in today’s dollars.

The amount, $27.20, was chosen as a tribute to the 272 slaves that were sold by the university in the 19th century.

The Georgetown student government approved the referendum in a resolution this week. “The proceeds of the GU272 Reconciliation Contributions will be allocated for charitable purposes directly benefiting the descendants of the GU272 and other persons once enslaved by the Maryland Jesuits — with special consideration given to causes and proposals directly benefiting those descendants still residing in proud and underprivileged communities,” the resolution reads.

Georgetown University spokesperson Matt Hill defended the student referendum in a statement. Hill argued that Georgetown is long overdue with regards to fixing the mistakes that the university made in the 1800s.

Comanche Voter

Sad to say violent boyfriends or "baby daddies" are not that uncommon. A friend who was a DA out here in Los Angeles County prosecuted several cases where a "boyfriend" beat and stomped a pregnant woman carrying a child.

Now if I were Joe Biden ("in high school we'd take a guy like that out behind the gym and beat the tar out of him") I'd try to do that, i.e. beat the tar out of him. But Joe, being Joe, couldn't get the job done. Now if I were a high school version of Trump, the fellow would be left a bloody pulp. Trump gets the job done.

D

Iggy:
Bingo!
I wish you would take that post and send it to all Republicans and the leadership of the RNC as well as the Trump administration.
This is crucial and is the logical result to this legislation which the Dems never considered as an unintentional consequence.
There are persons in prison now who can appeal their sentences since this is the law in New York,

I would like to point something out that is my personal belief. President Trump is from a generation who doesn't share deep personal beliefs in public. He did go to Norman Vincent Peale's church, however.

I think he is sincere in his faith, and I think it has deepened since his campaign and election. People like Mike and Karen Pence have to have influenced him, as well as the black pastors who supported him.

Yes, he sometimes cusses. Yes, he has two marriages and dated Playboy Bunnies. However, the great Defender of the Faith, Emperor Constantine, also had a pretty checkered background.

I am fascinated with this aspect of his presidency, because I think we are seeing God's hand influencing events.

Sorry if already posted. Destruction of ballots in a challenged election does not rise to the level needed for prosecution?

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/02/why_didnt_doj_prosecute_fl_election_official_for_destroying_ballots_in_2016.html
Why didn't DoJ prosecute FL election official for destroying ballots in 2016?
By Rick Moran
Broward County, FL election head Brenda Snipes is back in the news, as a former candidate who ran against Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the 2016 Democratic primary wondered aloud in a tweet why the Department of Justice never prosecuted her for illegally destroying paper ballots from the race.

Tim Canova got only 43% of the vote in that primary, but he challenged the results in court. While the case was being decided, Canova requested that Broward County hand over the thousands of paper ballots that had been cast. When Brenda Snipes' office refused, he sued - only to find out later that Snipes.
---------------
It doesn't matter if the destruction of the ballots were intentional or not. But both the county and the feds refused to prosecute. Why?

Assistant United States Attorney for the US Attorney's Office is none other than Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's brother, Steven. And Canova found out from the local district attorney, who was considering prosecuting Snipes, who was involved in the decision not to prosecute Snipes:

I’ve been told it was Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy AG, along with his assistant Steven Wasserman no doubt, who stopped a Federal investigation into Broward’s illegal destruction of all ballots cast in our 2016 primary against Debbie What’sHerRig Schultz.

Well, that didn't take long; I'm already breaking my pledge not to link anymore zerohedge articles. But this one is hard to resist as it punches just about every button I mentioned;
Paul Craig Roberts cheering our enemies on, China and Russia, in Venezuela.

Nothing better illustrates Washington’s opposition to democracy and self-determination than the blatantly public coup Washington has organized against the properly elected president of Venezuela.Washington has been trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government for years. Washington wants the state owned oil company to be privatized so that it can fall into the hands of US oil companies. That would ensure Washington’s control over Venezuela. Transferring the wealth out of the country would prevent any economic development from inside the country. Every aspect of the economy would end up in the hands of US corporations. The exploitation would be ruthless and brutal.
Venezuelans understand this, which is why Washington, despite wrecking the Venezuelan economy and offering enormous bribes to the Venezuelan military, has not yet been able to turn the people and the troops against Maduro.

The degradation that has taken place in his formerly superb mind for explaining free market economics to now apologizing for communist dictators and supporting our enemies is stunning and sad.
And now I retake the pledge. If anyone wants to yell at me please do. :)

Six people died after trespassing into the Gloria coal mine near the town of Middelburg in the eastern province of Mpumalanga, police told AFP, updating the earlier death toll of five.

The group went underground between Sunday and Wednesday to allegedly steal copper cables in the mine, which had been closed for several months.

“We have been prevented from continuing with the recovery operations by a disgruntled group of people who have not been paid their salaries,” Mike Elliot, who represents the administrators of the mine, told local media.

“They refuse to allow us to continue with the recovery operations and that includes repairing the power to the mine, restoring the power to the fans so that we can put fresh air underground.” He said some locals had attempted their own rescue operations.

The first African slaves arrived in New York in 1626 when it was New Amsterdam. We had slaves in New York until 1827. In fact, over 44% of households/manors in New York had slaves. The highest amount next to Charleston, SC.

Our local ex-slave hero, Pyrrhus Concer, was the first African-American to enter Japan's waters at Edo (Tokyo) in 1845 on my great-great-grand uncle, Mercator Cooper's whaling ship Manhattan. They were a whaling ship out of Sag Harbor that rescued a bunch of japanese fisherman who got stranded around the Bonin Islands.

Old Mercator, without Pyrrhus, also was the first to navigate into Antarctica.

Thanks for the twitter from Anna_Giaritelli,
Miss Marple. I hope you and every legal American strolled far enough down to see the work horse of the fallen Border Patrol Donna Doss bought up to her casket to say good bye.

Miracle on Ice was to me the greatest single sporting event I have ever watched. There may be some Olympic heroics, World Series games, Super Bowls, etc. But nothing that brought a country together like the 1980 semi-final Olympic hockey game agains the Soviet empire. They were considered unbeatable and invincible by every hockey pundit in the world.

Were they wrong.

Ralph L, you'd think all that arcane bell-ringing info would have something to do with the murder and the solution, but it doesn't--just ordinary physics. Won't spoil it for those who have yet to read it!

“UVM lake walk photos”

For a yankee take on blackface. (hat tip Kevlar).

Old Mercator...also was the first to navigate into Antarctica.
Is that why he became a projection, so he'd know where he went?

The AG is VMI too.

Lake should be “kake” for your search term
