Democrats condemning anti-semitism? It's complicated!
This generational divide has been a slow train wreck coming. My guess? I will say that old-timers like me grew up with the Six Day war, the 1973 war, and the 1972 Munich Olympics. Distinguishing the good guys from the bad guys was pretty easy and Israel also benefited from an underdog status
My kids have grown up with two decades of Intifadas, Jewish settlements, and images of an unassailable Israel beating down hapless Palestinians. Arguments about the two-state solution and the right of return get pushed to one side - the Palestinians look like the sympathetic underdogs to them.
For a bit of flavor, this is from a guest piece in Vox by a Palestinian activist:
For her, this means speaking up for victims of the Saudi war on Yemen and citizens living under the brutal Saudi regime. It also means speaking up for the Palestinians. Just as it is becoming clearer to many Americans that a progressive agenda in the United States includes solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom and equality, Omar’s support for Palestinians is part of her core belief system. As such, she and other new members of Congress are creating the space for others to speak up on this issue without fear.
Omar was elected in 2018, a remarkably deadly year for Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli military. According to a United Nations Human Rights Council Report, the Israeli military killed 138 protesters and injured more than 9,000 others between March and December of that year. They protested to demand an end to 70 years of refugeehood, while also demanding an end to Israel’s cruel and illegal siege of Gaza during weekly protests known as the Great March of Return.
I give that an eye-roll. I suspect Nancy Pelosi does too, but she has to herd these people and good luck to her.
EXCELLENT: Jonathan Chait goes all around on this.

Ah ahistorical spoiled rich little kids. There's been a giant dustup out here in La La Land. Kids from Newport Beach high schools got together for a party drinking beer--and horror of horrors arranged some red plastic beer cups in a swastika form. They naturally took pictures and posted them on social media. And other teens, who had not been at the party, but knew the kids at the party got the vapors--and posted it all on larger social media. The parents and the school board, and the newspapers all have their panties in a wad.
Rich kids at Sidwell Friends--the children of our nation's "elite" (aka legends in their own minds--both the parents and the kids) are doing the same sort of stuff.
I wouldn't dump a bucket of warm beer (or reprocessed beer for that matter) on any of them--even if they were on fire.

One of the NB kids was asked to leave his Catholic HS already. There's high school dumb and then there's brownshirt/burqa dumb. I think this was a case of high school dumb.
I keep on referring back to works like True Believer and Mass Man, but this is not what we are seeing. This is a new form of groupthink promoted by the elite.
Corbyn in the UK is growing into the second coming of Ernst Roehm complete with party purges. Our home grown anti - semites are more of the Black Muslim/Middle Eastern variety for the most part. But now the campuses are infected as well.
And to top it off the Somali clan wars are coming to Lake Woebegon.
The Left will tolerate female genital mutilation but they cannot tolerate a late term infant. Or dissent.

Willard;
I have to confess I never got the fascination with Big Sur. The ocean is largely remote and inaccessible and the views are mostly from a half mile away and there's barely a place to stand up.
The stretch of coast from Mendocino south to around Sea Ranch or so is IMO much prettier, more accessible, less crowded, in a banana belt of decent weather and has a vastly better array of small towns, redwoods, restaurants and flat areas where one may even stand up and walk about.

I don't see how the democrats are going to hold together with this failure to vote on the anti-religious hate bill (which is what it morphed into from anti-Semitism).
Even if Pelosi manages to hold them together, they have GOT to be losing voters based on this, plus the late-term/infanticide votes, the open borders, and their desire for much higher taxes.
I was a democrat until 1980. I was 32 that year. I had suffered through Jimmy Carter's pathetic presidency and looked at the mobs of leftists in the street, and suddenly Reagan looked like an alternative that wasn't so bad, even though the press kept referring to him as a "Grade B movie actor."
So, I voted for Reagan, and have never voted democrat again. And Jimmy Carter wasn't nearly as bad as the crop the democrats are bringing forth now.
Maybe Trump's Magic Wand makes the democrats all do insane stuff.

What can you do with progs who write slop like that excerpt TM quotes?
They have no connection to reality or morality so they cannot be reasoned with.
As rabid ideologues they'll cling to our throats like pit bulls without a lethal dose of reality being applied.
Can we ask PETA to euthanize them for us and then euthanize PETA when they're done?
As Bob Barker [I always thought his last name made this kind of comical] might say;
remember folks, be sure and have your pet progs spayed or neutered.

We did the mendocino drive south to pointe reyes (iggy had emailed me pointers on the area) with my girls and my parents with my dad occasionally asking "what state are we in?" and everyone pointing out the pacific to his right while exclaiming California every five minutes.
I am driving a minivan and red is front passenger side looking at some of those dropoffs. Much like the views of manhattan if you walk the brooklyn bridge from brooklyn, mendocino south has far more striking pacific view. Plus there are ten cars coming north for every southbound vehicle so it is less of a parade.
The elephant seals were out at pointe reyes and very loud and made my dad laugh. In bodega bay my mom wanted cherries so we followed a sign off PCH and accidentally came across many of the buildings, including the church, used in the movie The Birds.

As you leave Mendocino county and enter Sonoma county on the way to Point Reyes, Highway One climbs some very high bluffs and the road is very narrow and twisty and often there isn't even a twig to slow you down if you did go off the road to meet the ocean far, far below.
Not my favorite stretch of coast. :/
We usually took a route that bypassed that stretch.

I suspect he and the diva will be corresponding quite a bit about the southern lights. If you take CA-1 from Tamalpais Valley Junction off of 101, on a Sunday, you have to be careful because of all the Kamikaze bikers thinking they are running a race at Le Mans. But once you get to Stinson Beach you can relax.
When I decided to make my first Sunday drive to Mendocino, I asked native NOCAL folks what to take in. Everyone suggested, "see if you can find Bolinas". Which I did using my hand-held GPS. The reason for the suggestion is that the citizens of Bolinas tear down every sign the highway department puts up. I thin the general is right. I watch quite a bit of the goings-on on Twitter, as well as following some of the Q threads, and I think that we are currently in a war.
How else to explain the outright hatred of Trump from Hollywood, when for years they loved him? We all know about the perfidy of the mainstream media.
The internet has become a new theater of operations, and that video is part of it.
I thought both the missile testing on that ship and the interview with the general were very interesting. Lots of food for thought.

We meant to stop at Pfeiffer Beach several times but something always stopped us. We did poke around Point Lobos.
Speaking of the Eureka area I'm not sure our favorite spot wasn't Ferndale a few miles south of Eureka. The coast is nice but not as nice as south of Mendocino but the town and the people are miles ahead. All Victorian mansions built by the local dairy guys and still more full of loggers, cattle ranchers and dairymen than corn rowed, corn holed stoner progs.
Maybe if that delightfully dopey girl I was going to marry comes to her senses I'll take her to Pfeiffer Beach. :)

Most of this article is trying to convince us that Biden is probably the best shot for the dems. However, I did glean one interesting bit from it:
"Gallup also noted that the unfavorable ratings of five other Democratic contenders — Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Cory Booker (N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.) — exceed their favorable rating by between 2 and 8 percentage points in the new poll."

If you like olives, you need to go to Corning, California. It's not on the coast, but it's beautiful, and is known as the olive capital of America. Many delicious olive oils to taste, and every type of olive product you can think of (and some you didn't).
A bit south of Redding, on the 5.

Jack,
I agree with you, but I also think that video was to ease the average guy into realizing it.
A lot of people aren't aware of how much the media is manipulated, let alone various places on the internet.
There are fake Trump supporters who pop up to pull Ann Coulter-type turnarounds, people who do research and post it, people who have started doing Periscope videos to encourage Trump supporters, etc.
That isn't counting foreign agents, people who post propaganda (altered photos, fake videos, etc.) and crazy people.
People need to be aware this is going on, even if you don't think you are a participant.

GOPe hated Reagan for being the outsider.
Reagan whipped inflation & cut taxes big time, and the economy blasted off and floated all boats.
GOPe hated Trump for being the outsider.
Trump cut regulation and taxes big time, and the economy blasted off and floated all boats.
We instinctively hate Dems (who are just being what Dems are), but remind me again why we don't hate the GOPe even more?
That's where I am.
I hope Trump is using the EO Override bill to "out" GOPe members who should be primaried and run out on a rail. Message being: "I can't, nobody can, fix what is wrong as long as Dems have power in DC. But what we know with equal clarity is I can't, nobody can fix what is wrong in as long as RINOs walk the earth."

Speaking of the Backstabbing Blonde Scarecrow, she must have realized how badly she stepped in it with her most recent look at me stunt because she did a water is wet article on how the MFM is trying to tie Jeffrey Epstein to DJT after ignoring for years his ties to Slick. Go peddle your books to Maher.
Still no John C. Fry pictures? Anybody believe Big Brother isn't a real thing here?

OL, have you ignored my RINO Extinction Project?
Does anyone know why Mike Lee opposes Trump's emergency funds for the wall. Ol' Yeller included in the GOPe goofs who are against it (paraphrasing) "others who I know and like who are stubbornly wrong on this". He surely meant Lee.

Cap'n, Mitch Rapp is holding for you on line 2.
Boy do I hate the GOP with or without the "e".

Important message about daddy's family
I'm in touch with Tim, daddy's co-pilot. He is in touch with Barbara, and wanted me to let you all know that she has requested (as we might have expected) any donations in daddy's honor to go to the Anchorage Library Foundation.
If anyone needs more specific information, please get in touch with me by e-mail, and if you don't have my e-mail, many JOMers do.

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but Alex Trebek announced yesterday that he has Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Not good. Hope he beats the odds, which are astronomical.
I'm not one to focus on celebrity news, but he seems like one of the decent and intelligent guys in the business.

jimmyk,
I am willing to donate, but can we stipulate that no donations go to books by CLintons or Obamas?
Probably not.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | March 07, 2019 at 03:47 PM
jimmyk,
I saw a story about that this morning but somehow didn't post it.
One of my sisters was very upset about that, as she and her husband watch Jeopardy every night.
I agree with you that he seems very decent.

Thanks for the update, jimmyk.
Too bad about Trebek. I agree, one of the good guys.

Thanks, JimmyK. I just made a donation. Their donation page is here.

Sentencing day #1 for Manafort. Just starting.
@ShimonPro
Paul Manafort is in the courtroom.
He is in a wheelchair wearing a green jumpsuit.

I think we need to stipulate which books we are donating, by name.
Daddy more than once noted how they didn't have a book he wanted, and I have the same experience with mine not buying "conservative " books til I suggest a purchase.
I am NOT being facetious---we can likely access their card catalog to see what they need.
Yep!
http://www.anchoragelibrary.org/
So let the recommendations begin!
We can notify the library that we will be donating to the JOM Daddy fund in Memory of RF, to buy the books specified and send them a list. After a polite "inquiry" phone call to verify our donations are intended for that use, of course.
Porch, librarian to librarian communication make that more palatable?

I was in a meeting yesterday with another MA native, a Chinese guy and an Indian guy. The Chinese guy asked the other MA guy why he has black stuff on his face, does he play football?
The Indian guy chimed in and helpfully explained that football players put black stuff under their eyes so nobody can see where they're looking. The ash guy explained what the ashes were all about and then I explained the real reason for using eye black.
This starts off like a joke, but it's not...Posted by: Dave (in MA) | March 07, 2019 at 03:55 PM
Also, in the right hand corner of that page is a "matching donations section." On the off chance one of us is connected to one of those corporations, please check it as many of those companies will double or triple the donation.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | March 07, 2019 at 03:56 PM
Absolutely, anonamom--I did when I contributed. I noted that he often complained that he could not find conservative books there--I suggested Victor Davis Hanson or Thomas Sowell--you might add others to my request to them.

Establishing a restricted charitable account in his honor, at the library, upon request, should not be a problem. Will find out.
