As the British Parliament strings out the Brexit drama they will be competing with Avengers: Endgame and the final season of Game of Thrones. So much drama!
In the lemons/lemonade department, it seems as if PM May managed to hold her most recent margin of defeat under 200 votes, so she has made progress since her first proposal was crushed. At a guess this is the second most lopsided loss in their Parliamentary history (bills doomed to fail normally get pulled), but there are more votes ahead and records are made to be broken.
Ah ha ha.

Reminder: Before Michael Cohen appeared before the Oversight Committee, House Republicans requested to depose him. Democrats said no.
Then, Democrats' staff reportedly met with Mr. Cohen, privately, for at least 10 hours—right before Cohen’s public testimony.

Anytime you can give the country you serve a free ride in university take it, but also be ready to serve that county. What I did as a son of a serving military officer. Not too many get to do that today. A real shame. Our military family kids need special recognition in the first class universities but it goes to false admissions including enemies of the USA, China specifically.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | March 12, 2019 at 06:23 PM
Clarice is correct wrt college admissions.
Yes this sort of behavior in the athletic area has always existed.
Her son did the right thing in notifying the colleges.
One graduate returned to our school after her freshman year at Norte Dame and said her whole floor in the dorm had been waitlisted at one point in the process.
Bragging rights are key
Many elitist parents will have their kids apply knowing fullerll they probably won’t get in , just to say waitlisted here but we thought Ohio Dtste would be better for programs offered.
The big surprise for me is altering the test scores for money.
That is new.
I have given more SAT and ACT tests than I can count.
Security is paramount.
You even have to provide a seating chart.
Where they tally the results is possibly the place the bribery came in unless the results online were tampered with.
You list the colleges and their codes to have your results sent there.

JIB, my experience was similar. I was interested in the econ ph.d. at Chicago, but was in a different department. Econ told me they could admit me, since it was a sink or swim type program, and then said i should take the GRE, even though they didn't put much weight on it and thought a lot of the questions were wrong anyway. It was so much fun being at the school that thought everyone else was wrong.

I never took the ACT but I even remember my score on the SAT.
Verbal 550
Math 425
Not a great score.
My grade point was a 3.25 which today would eliminate a lot of schools.
I went to a small private girls college because John Carroll was not coed yet.

I only took the SAT because the ACT was recommended only if you were applying to schools in the South (according to my 1965-66 guidance counselor).
I was only interested in IU and applied and was accepted. I had a small scholarship, nothing extravagant.
I am dumbfounded at all of the cut throat competition these days, but I guess it is to be expected, which premier universities helping to guarantee a better job with influence.

When I applied to Ohio State the only qualification was can you "fog a mirror".
Now it is the most selective public in Ohio.
When my oldest daughter applied to tO$U for their dance program I thought it was an automatic that she'd get in. When she was turned down it was one of the biggest disappointments I've experienced (yes I've lived a very fortunate life). She went on to Bard College for a year, where she made a lot of lifelong friends, but didn't like being out in the sticks. Long story abridged, she ended up at Hunter in Manhattan, one of the City Universities of New York, where she got her PhD in Physical Therapy and she works for a clinic in Santa Cruz.

It depends on the school. One year Miami University of Ohio needed an actress and an ice skater so those 2 girls with lower GPA’s and test scores got in much to the chagrin of the high achievers who did not.
One year diversity and foreign students were all the rage.
Maybe Notre Dame needs a quarterback or perhaps Duke needs. Point guard.
They will adjust the stats and the schedule to fit.
For girls it is swimming, gymnastics, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing and in some cases volleyball or basketball.
Someone from Alaska or Hawaii has a better chance because of their different life experience.
A certain number are taken from different areas of the country.
If you did something unique, like start a 10k run for a worthy cause or create a scientific study then your ingenuity takes on a new meaning.

I took the SAT in the 10th grade as I was planning on doing Joint Enrollment at the JuCo my senior year to get a few quarters ahead my freshman year. Remember all that grief of drop/add and closed classes? I avoided all that by arriving at college with 35 hours and essentially a sophomore.
Anyways, I lucked out and got a 1225 on my only try (with a major hangover from the after-football party the night before). Applied to GT got accepted and decided to follow the boyfriend to Ga Southern instead and promptly partied my way to academic suspension for a quarter. Ahhhh the follies of youth. I came home and did another quarter in JuCo and promptly got hired out of the COBOL programming class to an at the time top firm in the ATL - now long since assimilated by the silicon borg. Teacher recs FTW.
I never did go back and finish as 95% of what I've ever needed I learned on each successive job. Now I'd get booted out the first day for some BS political crap - and y'all know I won't take crap from nobody.. I can't think of a single class that I wouldn't end up in front of a tribunal for saying something 'wrong.' Booyah!

Rep. Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, charged Friday that special counsel Robert Mueller is the real source of collusion that people should be focused on.
In a Fox News interview, Nunes said Mueller's team essentially colluded with Democrats to bring down President Trump, by accepting the Democrat-generated Steele dossier as evidence against Trump, and using it to further their investigation.
"These guys were meeting with the Democrats, they were taking in this Steele dossier, which was the dirt," said Nunes, R-Calif.
With the defense of Ilhan Omar, will Democrats change their 2020 party platform on Israel?

"So these guys were involved in this the whole time," he added. "They're part of it. The Mueller team is part of the collusion."
