Thanks so much for that photo of daddy!

Gosh, I will miss him!

None the less, NEVER means just that.

But I'll drink a sweet tea with you anytime Stephanie:)

Jane, we'll make it work. Looks like Jack might go fishing with us too. Sunday Monday or Tuesday. Sunday is the 31st.

Thanks for that picture of daddy, sbw!! Not at all what I had imagined, but you can see the wit, wisdom, and love in his visage...

Page would later testify that the DOJ told the FBI that “the ‘gross negligence’ standard in 793(f), it was their assessment that it was unconstitutionally vague.”

I bet there are at least a couple of dozen lawyers preparing appeals based on that assessment at this moment.

Hanson bitch-slapped the nevertrumpers:

Instead of shrill charges and exclamations, Schoenfeld might have explained why Trump got elected, and why the preferred candidates of The Bulwark did not. And why have Republicans not won 51 percent of the presidential vote since 1988, in an era when they've done well at the state and local level? And, most important, why exactly do Schoenfeld and his associates oppose a president who has enacted a conservative menu that was once mostly their own? Why do they attack a president who is trying to stop a neosocialist agenda that was once likewise anathema to them?

Tough week. Tough, tough week.

Similarly, my Mom has sudden memory loss and is trying to reason her way to understand it. What is its purpose? It doesn’t need a purpose Mom. Your regular yardstick doesn’t apply.

Consciousness is special, in and of itself, I said, it is amazing and doesn’t need a purpose.

She paused her wheelchair beside an elderly lady, clearly just coping. “She has a wonderful smile”, Mom said. “Show him.” The lady, wrapped in a blanket, smiled, widely.

“Thank you,” I said. “That makes my day.”

And Mom thinks she has no purpose.

rg, I don't know about how Pagar or frau spent their last days, but I am certain that daddy spent his in the way absolutely most enjoyable for him.

And now for something completely different:

Keb' Mo', "Your Love." I needed something upbeat after this week's news, and this fits. Enjoy!

Regarding daddy...

I have reflected and prayed this last week.

What a sudden surprise, and yet, what do we really know about daddy? Even those of you who met him--even more than once, or who frequently communicated with him--how well did you really know him?

Was he

Smart? Very smart.

Personable? Very personable.

Well read? Very well read.

Great memory for people, places, and things?
Very great memory for people, places, and things.

International traveler, spanning the globe from one corner to another.

Originally started in the Navy, switched to the reserves. Soon joined an organization to provide a useful and necessary umbrella over all/ALL of his activities.

I don't think daddy has died, I think he has been necessarily 'disappeared' --could be that Xi Jinping's assets were getting too close, could be some other group some where else. He even alluded to the imminent change in status, telling (was it peter or jimnj) that he wouldn't be seeing him again.

I understand the official story. Just so. Probably better that way, to accept the official version. But my sense is, he'd been an extraordinary asset, and needed to be retired and withdrawn for his protection.

Fair winds, daddy.

Foreman said this should be the fight of the century.

RG, glad to see you, even in our time of grief--and frau too, how awful! I know we are not the youngest of cohorts but still...

This admissions scam is so ridiculous--I just can't see how all involved were so sure they wouldn't get caught. The usual path of admissions is scandalous enough--if you have to jump a quintile down to admit someone, perhaps that's not a good idea for anyone.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Life is but a stopping place
A pause in what’s to be
A resting place along the road
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys
Different paths along the way
We all were meant to learn
some things
But never meant to stay.
Our destination is a place
Far greater than we know
For some the journey’s quicker
For some the journey’s slow
And when the journey finally ends
We’ll claim a great reward
And find an everlasting peace
Together with the Lord.

I'm still confused about why they want to retire the aircraft carrier USS Truman early. I think we'll see more discussion in the future.

jim nj

Speaking of aircraft carriers, how about this proposal...

I mean like what language would they speak?

Here's a tip equip your army with real rifles, fully maintain your airforce then we'll get around to the other.

Past is Prologue

My husband had been at Claremont Men's College with Hans Ridder while Dawn was at Scripps. They married and remained in Claremont all these years and we lost touch. I was amazed to realize one day that Frau on JOM was Dawn, and I posted some remarks as Past is Prologue. We four had some good times together back in the day discussing, yes, politics--feistily! Or Hans would let me try my weak conversational German with him. Their 2 little boys were the same age approximately as our son. I'm very sad and will send condolences to Hans and the family. Thanks to all JOM people for their caring and loving remarks.

jim nj

I was thinking something similar. Before Germany engages in part ownership of an aircraft carrier it might want to get its' subs and surface ships seaworthy, its' air force airworthy, and its' armor ready to roll.

No, let's build a European aircraft carrier. Heh, maybe we can sell them the USS Truman.

Re engineering schools, in my 5-1/2 decades in the tech world, I’ve worked for, with and over engineers from about every imaginable school. I never saw a measurable correlation to whether any of them were worth their salt and what school they came out of.

I think only two things matter: 1) do they have the intrinsic, curious mind that has to understand how something works, and 2) were they fortunate in having a mentor who saw their light and helped them shine it brighter.

The rest all become bureaucrats and paper shufflers.

Well do they have the technical skill but also do they the vision I think thr second is as important, as long as you've assured the first

ManTran, I’m rolling up my fourth decade. I agree with you, but 1 is more important than 2.

I greatly appreciate Nancy Pelosi’s statement against impeachment, but everyone must remember the minor fact that I never did anything wrong, the Economy and Unemployment are the best ever, Military and Vets are great - and many other successes! How do you impeach....

..a man who is considered by many to be the President with the most successful first two years in history, especially when he has done nothing wrong and impeachment is for “high crimes and misdemeanors”?
