MissMarple2

Jeff,

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will be back. I miss you!

D

Jeff:
So happy to see you here and I am so sorry about your dad.
We miss you and love you too!

Hi, Hit! Smooches

President-Elect Jim,SunnyvaleCA

Can someone give a hint about how to efficiently search for comments by daddy?

There is one I have in mind ... some months or perhaps a year ago ... pretty late at night ... a set of images linked cleverly. Several people remarked "you've found your role for retirement!" and I think TM gave it special mention in the following post.

joan

Jim, this morning I searched through all of the threads for one of Dave's posts about daddy and his comments and finally located it but, duh, didn't copy it. I think this will work. (I think it was Dave who put this up.)

site: justoneminute.typepad/comments by daddy

I just tried it again and some came up.

joan

funny, this morning when I used Dave's link, every comment was from daddy, but the one I just put up has comments from other people as well as daddy. Perhaps Dave will see this and repeat his post. I'd look again, but it took me forever to locate it, and I have a headache.

Extraneus

OMG. You post that in daddy's memorial thread?

anonamom

I was just scrolling to note that the Selma Hayek tribute seemed totally appropriate on the daddy memorial thread.
Ex--is that a Carl's Jr hamburger tribute??? ;-)

Ralph L

Extraneus

Yes, amom. He was a big fan of Carl's burgers, as we know. See here for the ones I had the discretion to pass up.

Wacky Nut Job @AnnCoulter, who still hasn’t figured out that, despite all odds and an entire Democrat Party of Far Left Radicals against me (not to mention certain Republicans who are sadly unwilling to fight), I am winning on the Border. Major sections of Wall are being built...

....and renovated, with MUCH MORE to follow shortly. Tens of thousands of illegals are being apprehended (captured) at the Border and NOT allowed into our Country. With another President, millions would be pouring in. I am stopping an invasion as the Wall gets built. #MAGA

We don’t have a Carl’s Jr. Here in Florida that I know of but then if is burgers I prefer a bag of White Castle. It’s the college student survival meal. Back in my day we grabbed them at a 10 bag for a dollar, at the one on Victory Pkwy. in Cincy. Back then I drank beer, 14 K Hudepohl, and a bag of Castles soaked it all up and you the pleasure of a milder headache in the morning.

My favorite burger is the Moose burger they use to serve in the OC at Ernest Harmon AFB when I was a kid. I remember lots of garlic salt😉

Ralph L

Carls is Hardee's in the East.

I think TM gave it special mention in the following post.
In that case, it would be easier to search the main blog for "daddy".

Jim Eagle

If you order all the ingredients for Clarice’s gnom-gnom gluten free bagels at Amazon the total cost is $97.00. But you can probably get 3 batches out of that. It’s on its way and have a special Gravalx I want to try. Will let you know if worth it.😎

Thank you, TM, for this thread and to everyone who's written so beautifully about Daddy.

This is the local version of the white castle, there was a little place that specialized in it was near my grandfather's home when I originally came to miami.

Jim Eagle

Hell, I am fund-raising for money to make Clarice's bagels.

I am still reading Bruce Ohr's testimony to the special committee before the Dems took over the house. To me, it looks like Steel, and Simpson picked him as the "cutout man" instead of dealing directly with the FBI even when they were dealing directly with the FBI??? Crazy but then it gives them some cover, right? I don't know. You have to read it all. Jim Jordan tries to turn over the table but it gets too complicated.

Someone is complicit and there are dozens in the whole damn conspiracy to overturn the election and do a soft coup on Trump. This really pisses me off as an American patriot or better as a citizen. Who the hell is watching our constitutional liberties and freedoms as they are being usurped? Not the fucking DOJ or FBI or Congress.

This is not going to end good but then it most likely will not end bad for the deep state monsters.

Many beautiful tributes posted on Rb/daddy's obituary page, including this special poem:

I met a man the other day I had not known before
Though we knew each other only a few hours we were friends to the core
He talked to me about his interests so many different things
We were both so happy I did not notice he was growing wings
We bounced around the stacks of a bookstore called the Strand
That place will always be for me a very special land
From there we walked a few blocks more with a third friend
Little did we know that one of us was near the end
We had a beer, we shared photos, we shared good times
And I apologize sincerely for the lameness of these rhymes
Those few hours with Rob Flynn will never be forgotten
He showed me what happiness was in a few hours in Manhattan
God bless you Barbara, and the girls he called Caltech and UC Irvine,
Your Rob is up in heaven now and he is doing fine

The EU, killing itself one stupid reg at a time. Idiots.

Okay, let's turn the tables. Make our visa $50, and only good for one year. But Brits (none Islamic ones), Poland, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania Hungary, can all come in under the old rules. France gets a separate surcharge of $90. Belgium since the EU is HQ'd there, has to apply 6 months in advance and pay $500.

The Israeli's come in for free, and we give them a welcome bagel with Lox at the point of entry.

That euro visa thing?

What’s the big deal? Euros coming here need to do the same to enter, it’s just not called a visa.

Jim Eagle

I'm still looking at the Selam Hayek photo:

Jim, NJ, Many thanks for posting your walk-about with daddy in Manhattan, Pangs of nostalgia.

Go by Port Imperial ferry terminal sometime late morning. As you walk in AEI, Sr. is sitting in an open office at his desk on the ground floor. Just open the door, and say"Arthur, do you know a guy from Southampton and Florida named Jack?" You may get a free pass into Manhattan.

You can even drop off your dry-cleaning there and pick it up on your return trip.

What I miss is the drving range. Well that and all the young Cuban noneys who woud come down from the Palisades to that honky-tonk he developed. Watched the 4th fireworks from there with Polly Bergen of all people. AEI, Sr. knows everyone. Even you , maybe:)

Jim Eagle

Another Bod,

What's it called, if not a visa?

Captain Hate

That euro visa thing?

What’s the big deal?

It wasn't needed in the past. Just show your passport at customs and you're in.

Jim Eagle

CH,

I have no idea what AB mentioned? If you are the 120+ countries in the world who can com here without a paid visa, who does he represent?

Captain Hate

I don't know, Jack. I thought EU countries could come here sans visa unless they're working or going to school or otherwise staying for a long time.

Another Bob

CH, yeah, I’m aware. I've been to pushing 50 countries. It’s always been harder for others to enter the US than vice versa. I’ve on,y had to buy two actual visas in advance - India and China. Everyplace else was no visa or buy visa on arrival (e.g. Turkey).

JIB, look up ESTA. Part of the visa waiver program.

https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Jim Eagle

Well, AB, I have never known any of my numerous French, Dutch, Spanish, Belgian, Uk, Polish, Portuguese, Italian or even Slovenian friends to ever have a visa to visit the USA. Just a passport.

Many more countries to list but my fingers are wearing out.

After reading that ETSA link, I am totally confused. Everyone I know from Europe uses their passport to come in. My wife incliuded.

Captain Hate

AB,

In the mid 90s I became aware of how screwy it can be. We had a German exchange student staying with us (it's a really long and convoluted story of how that came to pass) who, unknown to us, had a screwed up visa. One weekend as a treat, we took her to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The stupid Canuck customs people should've noticed her papers were screwed up and refused to let her in. Instead we got stopped coming back into the US and I had to go with her to a room filled with lowlifes and gypsies. I wanted to kill everyone. When we finally saw a customs guy, who was pretty large, he listened to me rant about how the Clintons smuggle every crooked dirtball into the country and an innocent student gets jammed up. He said that he agreed with me but that her papers were screwed up from the get go and the school had to get them straightened out at the federal building promptly and then let us in.

Long again

So we're leaving Trinity Episcopal Church, worth a visit, but Daddy and I had both seen the interior before.

https://www.trinitywallstreet.org/

It and its' sister church St. Paul Chapel have two of the few graveyards left in Manhattan. There are a few others left, but most were removed to Queens.

It's worth pointing out, as I did with Daddy, that Trinity Episcopal may be the richest church in America. They never sold off all the land they owned and still hold about 14 acres of prime NYC real estate. In the past they used to use 99 year leases to bring in rent income but retain ownership of the land. A snarky recent NYT article follows...

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/08/nyregion/trinity-church-manhattan-real-estate.html

Poor churches good, Catholic Archdiocese bad, and, for a change of pace, rich Episcopal church bad. Pardon my cynicism in regards to the Times.

Bah. It is what it is, a part of history.

So we're walking up Broadway again. There is no direct route to the WTC. It's north and west of Trinity. We come across a concrete park I remember, cut through, and with a few zigs or zags, and looking up, we find the right street to walk west on. The looking up part is a hold over from years ago for me. When you were in lower NYC if you could see the twin spires of the WTC you could orient where you were. The same with the the new Freedom Tower, a it's beacon of sorts.

We're walking westward down the street that leads to the south edge of the WTC property. I point out a building to Daddy that suffered collateral damage. We walk a little further and I realize I'm wrong about that building. So I tell Daddy I'm wrong and admit that I'm temporarily disoriented, but we're going the right way. I realize that part of my confusion is that we're passing a newly built WTC building. Now the old WTC had 7(?) buildings, some of them surrounding the twin towers, but I've forgotten that the old twin towers site is dedicated as a memorial and all the new WTC buildings surround the twin towers site now.

OK, I'm reoriented and we come upon the south tower pool at the southeast corner, exactly as seen here...

https://www.911memorial.org/blog/tags/south-tower-pool

It's loud, with water cascading down four walls hitting the bottom, the water hitting the bottom moves to the center of the pool where it disappears into a square lower level whose bottom isn't visible. The outside walls of the pool are inscribed with the names of those who didn't survive the attack.

More images...
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=9%3f11memorial&FORM=HDRSC2

Daddy and I look north and I say what the fuck is that, looking at a building that to me is ugly as sin. It looks Like something that has fallen on its' side. Daddy looks and agrees he has no clue what it is and yeah, it's ugly. Mind you we've come from the beautiful US Customs House and we've been discussing quality architecture, high quality building materials and high quality craftsmanship. And we're both in agreement that people don't know how to build anymore to that quality.

Here's what we were looking at...

https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=mOXjuV%2bO&id=DA182077EE2033439771CA5F3725A0D9A737D159&thid=OIP.mOXjuV-OoTy_cAH_9TZs-QHaE8&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fstatic.frontinc.com%2fuploads%2f2014%2f03%2fNational9-11MemorialMuseum_05_1200x800.jpg&exph=800&expw=1200&q=9%2f11+memorial+museum+exterior+south+side&simid=608053336363305733&selectedIndex=12&cbir=sbi

The crane in the photo is gone now, but I find that building disconcerting. We'll come back to it later...

So we walk west and then north along the south pool until we see the north pool and we stand at the southeast corner admiring the pool and the Freedom Tower just beyond. Like the twin towers it's iconic.

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=freedom+tower&FORM=HDRSC2

The second photo is very good for orientation purposes. It shows the twin pools in the foreground and how the new buildings surround the original site. We turn east to leave and pass the front of that building I didn't like. It's the 9/11 memorial museum...the vibe of it looking like a fallen building now makes sense in that context, but I still don't like it.

https://www.911memorial.org/museum

I look at Daddy and tell him no way in God am I going in there. He chuckled and understood. We walked east back to Broadway and came across St Paul's Chapel. What's significant about the church, besides its' graveyard and the beauty of the church, is that they opened their doors to all the first responders on 9/11 and for years after was an impromptu memorial. I visited it about five years ago and had to leave early with mixed emotions. That's why I had no interest in seeing the 9/11 memorial. It probably would have overwhelmed me. St. Paul's is back to being a church these days and I assume whatever they had was transferred to the museum.

I'm going to pause here to go to a conversation I had with Daddy back at the WTC. Then I'll pick up on the tour north from St. Pauls. Next post the conversation.

jimmyk

Further evidence, as if any is needed, of Pelosi's dementia.

JIm NJ,

Did the museum with Frederick a few years back. At first, it is curiosity, then it becomes painful, and disturbing on another level. It was really hard for us to complete the tour, and when back outside I wanted to vomit.

What happened on 911 should have never happened, regardless of the useless government investigation report. We were let down by the same cast of crittters going after Trump./

I forgot this on the way from the WTC to Broadway.

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=oculus+transportation+center&FORM=HDRSC2

Another what the hell is that building?

Well neither one of us knows what it is, but it's definitely worth a look. As we get closer it dawns on me it must be the new transportation station that was built to move the PATH trains and subways together. The concourse below the towers used to serve that function, but they were destroyed when the towers fell. So this was a little east of the towers and they had all kinds of wild dreams about what the new station could do and be.

It would connect even more subway lines with the PATH trains. The design was opened to an international competition. And depending on which politician you heard it would...it would...it would..

Well it did some of that at a California cost - over $4 Billion dollars. WAY over budget. Daddy and I walked in at ground level and the interior view is more majestic than the outside view. We didn't go down, but just standing at the top level looking down it was a massive indoor space. Several floors of concourses and the bottom floor was way down there. Look up at it's like being in a cathedral. Look down it's a brightly lit Dante's pit.

I'll add some coverage below... Oh, yeah, it's called the "Oculus."

https://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/transportation-hub.html
The official site

https://loving-newyork.com/oculus-in-nyc/

https://www.theverge.com/2016/3/6/11168484/inside-the-oculus-new-yorks-insane-looking-4-billion-train-station

Similarly impressed we left. Each of us wondering what we would do with $4 Billion. The "Oculus" didn't make the cut. We even tried to think of a better name. "Money Pit" after the movie, "Succubus" because it has bus in the name and after the mythical demon that could suck up your sexual prowess, but in this case, just your money.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

That retarded "Gospel" of Barnabas has been around for hundreds of years.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I find that fist threatening in a toxic masculinity sort of way.

Dave (in MA)

jim nj

Narciso,

Isn't that "Oculus" something else? I assume it just took on a life of its' own. You get visionary(?) politicians over here, a world renowned architect over there, unions, etc. And worst of all they are playing with Port Authority of NY&NJ money.

I expect some of that huge cost was to re-align or move some subway lines. Or maybe build new underground connections to them, but it is a lot of money.

Governors of NY and NJ use PATH money like a kid cracking open his piggy bank.

jim nj

Thank you Dave, I'll take it as intended.
