Southwest on the 737 MAX out of service:

A message from our CEO (Gary Kelley)

Since Sunday, we have been continually working with the FAA, Boeing, and others within the U.S. government, regarding the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft type that was involved in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accident on March 10. This afternoon, the FAA issued its order to ground the MAX, with our knowledge and support. We have removed the 34 MAX aircraft from service; they will remain out of service until the FAA rescinds this order. With more than 750 aircraft in our fleet, more than 95 percent of our aircraft are unaffected by this order.

Safety is our top priority. It always has been. It always must be. Our commitment to the Safety of our Employees and our Customers is unwavering and uncompromising. U.S. airlines operate within the most advanced, regulated aviation system in the world and nothing is more sacred to all of our Southwest Family Members than the trust our Customers place in our airline every day, on every flight. You have our commitment to minimize the disruptions to our Customers' travel plans, while adhering to the FAA's requirements and ensuring the Safety of our fleet.

Southwest® has a long history with the 737 and a stellar safety record. Our experience with the MAX, along with the other U.S. operators, has been phenomenal. We've operated over 40,000 flights covering almost 90,000 hours. There is a ton of data collected, which we continuously monitor. In all of our analysis since our first flight in 2017, or that by our U.S. counterparts or the FAA; nothing has presented any flight safety concerns. It is also important to add that all Pilots at Southwest are deeply experienced and highly trained, as are our Mechanics who are highly experienced and trained to safely maintain every airplane in our fleet.

I realize this disruption may inconvenience our Customers during this busy spring travel season, and we will do everything in our power to mitigate the impact to our operation. For that, I offer my sincere apologies. To support our Customers, we are offering flexible rebooking policies for any Customer booked on a canceled flight.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will provide frequent updates to you as this story develops.

So, if there was knowingly & acknowledged to be “zero” crime when the Special Counsel was appointed, and if the appointment was made based on the Fake Dossier (paid for by Crooked Hillary) and now disgraced Andrew McCabe (he & all stated no crime), then the Special Counsel......

....should never have been appointed and there should be no Mueller Report. This was an illegal & conflicted investigation in search of a crime. Russian Collusion was nothing more than an excuse by the Democrats for losing an Election that they thought they were going to win.....

.....THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO A PRESIDENT AGAIN!

I note in the Daily Mirror's coverage of the NZ shooter that they only note his desire for "ethnic autonomy" not his interest in "worker's rights", "environmentalism" "anti-imperialism" and "responsible markets".

My brother wrote this on Facebook

I was on my way home last night and stopped in Harris Teeter on Long Point to get pasta and some Boar’s Head Oven Gold Turkey for our cats. (Yes 16 year old Charlie likes turkey) I went to the Deli department and was waiting in line as one after another took their meat and cheese and left. When it was my turn, the 20ish year old slim pale girl asked “How was your day?” I responded “Good, but better now that it is over.” She explained that she had another 5 hours to go since they work until 9 and then had to cleanup for an hour. Then she said she lives in Summerville 30 minutes away because no job was available at the Harris Teeter in Summerville. I said “Long Drive” and she said she doesn’t drive that her mother and father who both work drive her – 2 hours a day! She explained that she has had a couple grand mal seizures and she doesn’t want to put other people at risk so never got a license. I asked if she had left word with the Summerville store in case there was an opening for her. She hadn’t but said it was a great idea and she would. She gave me my cat turkey and I handed her one of these coins I carry for special people. Her smile was absolutely amazing and said it all - without another word I turned and went on with my shopping. I could just imagine her getting in the car with her mother and explaining the heavy metal coin to her mother. I really think it made her day. It really makes one remember how LUCKY we are even with all the crap that is happening in our own lives.

Based on court filings and the sentencing memo it’s highly likely that Manafort refused to testify against Podesta and that is the main reason he got multiple years in his sentencing. There is specific mention of Manafort lying in regards to another case where he agreed to cooperate. Looks like Gates is not as worried about Arkancide as Manafort was.

The NZ shooter's iconography is very strange. Most of the references are very obscure; Georgian kings and Bulgarian lords who fought the Ottomans? Russians who did the same; in Russian? This was plastered all over the magazines of the shooter's gun, which by their look seems to have been an AK-47 type with 30 round mags.

Very strange to have one of those in New Zealand.

Where does such hate come from? Where does this litany of conflict with the Ottomans come from? It is too intellectualized. Even historians would have a hard time identifying those people.

This is a bizarre and horrible crime.

I love D’s Logic that if you are an elected governor you are not a loser no matter how much your policies have screwed your states population.

Andrew Cuomo, the Govs of CT, and NJ plus Jerry Brown come to mind.

Old Lurker

What you don't get, Maryrose is that the past is, well, past. And that past facilitated the existential mess that surrounds the country today. Just because somebody "got elected and was not impeached" means absolutely nothing concerning that person's culpability for the mess that confronts us in the first place, and it for sure bears not at all on his ability to lead us back to the light. But his obstruction to those who are seeking the light give current leaders every right to resent intrusion in the current disaster by those who failed to protect us when they might have.

So when somebody here expresses "ex post facto" disgust for a former elected leader, that opinion frankly might be more significant for the here and now, and future, than some stuck in the past "I liked him then so I have to like him now" obsession.

So please drop the objective of forcing JOM to not forget or diminish the past. It helps not at all. Most of JOM, unlike so many others, would rather see the past through clear eyes and attempt to do better.

Thank God for Jeb Bush during the Florida recount
Can you imagine Al Gore as President?

MissMarple2

maryrose,

The President is not a super hero. He can be harmed by unwarranted criticism as can any office holder. He has the media, the democrats, and faithless Republicans all opposed to him. MY position is that as long as so many are arrayed against him, I am sticking up for the guy.

In addition, Jeb Bush has done NOTHING to help solve the current division in the country. I assume he has been holed up somewhere in Florida and only now appear, at David Axelrod's invitation, to push a primary challenger.

A primary challenger weakened Jeb's father, and helped contribute to him being a one-term president. I am not willing to take that chance.

It's quite amazing that while you think President Trump wouldn't be bothered by a primary challenger, you are all upset that I suggested that for Romney or Rubio. Care to ponder that?

Mitt Romney issued a sanctimonious statement about his vote yesterday. There are now hundreds of replies to it, and the only ones who are supportive of his position are either democrats or bots. (I checked backgrounds on those by rolling my cirsor over their names.)

There are many, many people telling him he's a traitor, that they are ashamed they voted for him, that HE should be ashamed, that he is just a back-stabber, etc. I feel confident that my attitude is with the majority of Republicans.

Interestingly, I was going to link that tweet, but it seems to have been deleted. I guess he doesn't like criticism.

I don't think Trump has to worry about a primary challenger. Perot challenged GHWB because he had betrayed the base, which is also why Reagan took on Gerald Ford. Trump has done everything in his power to honor his campaign promises.

The GOP doesn't seem to be bothered by being ideologically incoherent until an outsider crashes the party. Maybe they should worry less about being this big tent everything goes blob and more about actually standing for something.
