Cain also makes the point that average people may think Trump is racist because they are always hearing it, even though there isn't one bit of proof that he is.

Sort of like that Sherrod Brown appearance this weekend.

It's Budget Day. The WH formally submits its Federal Budget plan for FY2020 (beginning Oct 1 2019). Among other things, it calls for $8.6-billion for segments of southern border wall. Calls for another hike in defense spending but 5% across-the-board cuts in non-defense spending.

MissMarple2

A translated tweet from Jair Bolsonaro, the president of Brazil:

The academic environment over time has been massaced by the leftist ideology that divides to conquer and praise socialism and mock capitalism. In this context, the formation of citizens is forgotten and the conquest of political militants is prioritise.

Budget is interesting. I see Pelosi forcing the continuing resolutions game for the next two years.

Daddy would have had an intense interest in what is wrong with the 737 max. I mentioned the undisclosed software upgrade we had talked about here after the lion air crash as hubby realized my youngest was trying to get to cairns to see GBR during her spring break and that the discount airline was using that version.

He had her switch to a different airline to be safer. Wonder how often that kind of analysis will start happening now. Anyway that switch triggered a conversation where hubby said the software patch was to obscure the flawed design of the anti-stabilization platform.

No wonder boeing stock is plummeting. I think it will be a long time before we can have an aviation discussion here without looking for daddy's informed chime-in.

The sun is rising further to the North now and will continue to do so. Grateful for the gift of life today.

Driving Teddy to a dog park to the east while being retired has made me more aware of the movement of the sun during the year than I experienced while I was working. Around the equinoxes it would be directly in my eyes in the evening when driving home but then way to the north in summer and south in winter. Around the first day of winter the sun doesn't get very high in the sky; in fact I was squinting at noon because it was almost in my eyes.

One of the really great things that Trump has induced is that we now face an increasingly honest enemy.
I find it far preferable to be opposed and hated by New Left, Alinskyite, neo-Marxists, like Cortez, Sanders and DeBlasio, who are quite happy to trumpet their totalitarian ideology in a much more open manner then sermonizing liars like Hillary, Barry, Nancy and Chuck.
And the nice thing is the honest Marxists don't lie anymore about us than the sermonizing liars do, mainly for two reasons:
They can't because the lies were already absolute:
And the sermonizing liars were never constrained regarding their lying about us, only about their true nature.

sbwaters

Musing from the backbench:

Everything published about the budget will highlight Trump’s budget request for $8.6B for, as AP calls it, his "signature project" while pushed to the background is reduction in spending to follow a bipartisan congressional agreement to reduce spending.

Pelosi will stand firm on the border fence. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Trump back off the border funding and hang Pelosi out to dry on the requirement to cut non-descretionary spending to meet spending limits both sides agreed to.

Imagine Trump rejecting the congressional budget not because of the border spending, but because they didn’t meet their own bipartisan agreement to reduce the deficit.

In the 2020 election, Trump could then go after both Dems and GOPe spenders.

This is why I don't buy into RG's pie in the sky crap. The DOJ has been larded up with third rate stooges, starting with GHWB's appointments, that depend on having unlimited resources and crooked judges to run roughshod over the rights of anyone unfortunate enough to attract their attention. Maybe that will be reversed somewhat with DJT's judge appointments but that will take time to make itself felt assuming they don't "evolve" after getting a lifetime appointment like that traitor John Roberts.

Maybe that will be reversed somewhat with DJT's judge appointments but that will take time to make itself felt assuming they don't "evolve" after getting a lifetime appointment like that traitor John Roberts

I don't think any of the Trump-appointed judges will do squat to rein in the power of DOJ prosecutors.

The only thing that will do that is a complete top-to-bottom housecleaning at DOJ. And I mean powerwashing the place with hydrochloric acid. And then, once that's done, federal legislation - or, better still, a Constitutional amendment - formally eliminating qualified immunity for law enforcement, prosecutors AND judges.

I don't expect either of those things to happen in my lifetime.

MissMarple2

Captain Hate,

I am concerned about all of the departments, although the one we have our eyes on right now is DOJ.

I STILL want someone to explain to me why the FBI doesn't record interviews and instead depends on the 302's, which are the recollections and impressions of the agents AFTER the interview.

That seems Stasi-like to me, and not only do I want to know about why they don't record interviews, I want to know why no one in the press asks about it.

James D.

I STILL want someone to explain to me why the FBI doesn't record interviews and instead depends on the 302's, which are the recollections and impressions of the agents AFTER the interview.

Agreed. And I truly don't understand why the President hasn't ordered this. It seems like a no-brainer, and something that even the Dems and MSM would find difficult to argue against.

Narciso

I knew when the usual suspects got the vapours something was up,

MissMarple2

James D.,

We actually don't know he hasn't ordered it. It would be to his advantage to order it and then see who doesn't follow it. It also would be to his advantage to iplement it but not tell people like the Clintons and their gang, who would assume that all would be on the record are those 302's so they would assume they could threaten or blackmail agents into altering them, therefore not being as careful as they should with an interrogation.

rse

jib-

hubby last night insisted the max and 737-800 are not the same and this indicates the difference.

http://www.aviatorjoe.net/go/compare/737-800/737_MAX_8/

https://thepointsguy.com/2017/10/first-look-southwest-737-max-8/ also talks about sw's use of the max 8.

rse

Now this is interesting.

After this discussion

One of the fundamental improvements of the MAX over its predecessors is how fuel efficient it is. The aircraft is operated by CFM International’s new LEAP-1B engines, which are both more efficient and quieter than previous engines. The carrier says the MAX aircraft could reduce fuel burn by as much as 14% compared with other 737 variants.

The improved fuel efficiency and longer range could allow Southwest to expand its route networks to more destinations on long-haul routes. The carrier has been eyeing Hawaii as a potential new destination for some time, and the new 737 MAX aircraft could help to make that a reality.

A bit further along it says that sw was supposed to launch this version but that malindo air, a sub of lion air, ended up being the first to fly the plane. First with the mysterious plane crash too.

When Southwest first ordered the 737 MAX, it was supposed to be the launch customer. After all, the carrier flies a fleet comprised exclusively of Boeing 737 aircraft so it made sense for it to be the launch airline for the newest variant. But, it wasn’t such a simple process from order to delivery.

Earlier this year, Norwegian announced that it would be the first European carrier to fly the MAX, which ended up holding true. However, Malaysian carrier Malindo Air, a subsidiary of Lion Air, ended up being the true launch customer of the 737 MAX. Southwest is the first North American carrier to fly the MAX, but a couple of airlines have been flying it for some time now.

That's a little too 4-D for me, MM. I think the simpler explanation is that DJT has hundreds of these issues to deal with, and he has to set priorities and delegate. And even that means replacing people who aren't getting the job done. I might wish he ranked his priorities a bit differently than he seems to be doing, but in any case it's an arduous process that will fill up his hopefully) two terms.

Right now I am guessing someone would like to take all the hype about adjustments to decrease fuel consumption back.

I am making my dad the famous broth as it is one of the few things, apart from desserts, he still enjoys. It seems to lessen my mom's stress to have him consume something with protein in it.
