Good Morning!

This is the story that caufht my attention latr last night: Future of controversial US military base Diego Garcia hangs in the balance after UN rules the Indian Ocean archipelago was illegally seized in the 1960s by Britain and should give be given back to Mauritius

1st, the US Base there ain't controversial, and 2nd, the UN is full of beeswax. What a pantload. The sooner the UN moves permanently to Diego Garcia, the better..

Trump is kind of an abhorrent idiot

Who could deny that, though, really? On a net basis, Trump is quite a specimen, but he plays the abhorrent idiot better, and more often, than most. Cringeworthy comments, full-blown egoism, petty obsessions - he da man. So what? Trump is representing the interests of America and Americans more diligently and thoughtfully than almost any of his predecessors, and that's all that counts. NeverTrumpers have played their hand so badly, raising when they should have been folding - they're out of the game.

Good morning all,
Great Pieces Clarice. you are like a fine surgeon.

Have a great meetup in NYC guys - wish I could’ve made it
Love the book store but I would bring y’all MAGA hats so we could cab it down to Tribeca for a quick brewski just to see if old Bobby DeNiro goes BSC That would be a hoot!
What a pathetic show put on by our own government with Mike Cohen as a witness to potentially impeach a sitting president? who did nothing wrong!??
Disgusting doesn’t even begin to describe what ails these mad men & females
Have a great week everyone

Trump is the first who'd admit he's a bundle of faults. I love this clip, where he says that not drinking is one of his only good traits and asks the audience "can you imagine if I drank, what a mess I'd be"? Much of his humor, as in the CPAC speech yesterday, is self-deprecating.

So much to do between now and 1 PM when I leave for the meet-up, have to exercise, etc. Went to the early Mass, which has no music, so it's much quicker, but the priest was from South America and I could hardly understand him. Nevertheless, some great readings--First Corinthians 15:54-58; "Death where is thy sting?" Who else used those words besides the apostle Paul?

Gentlejim

Neo,
That end of life date for Win7 has me cringing. So much of our LE software both private and state vendors is tied to it. We have to pay extra to have Win7 installed because many of our programs don’t work with newer OS. I’m assuming vendors are working on it, but we all know about assuming.

Vista and Windows 8 should have been post-partum abortions.

I think OL mentioned he'd missed the free upgrade to 10, but if you search around, it's possible still to get a free upgrade. I was able to do it on my last Win 7 device. I don't find Win 10 to be necessarily an improvement on Win 7, but I guess there's no choice but to upgrade.

I've been wondering if there's a scenario where AOC and their ilk actually help the Dems, essentially by giving an opening to Dems like Biden, Klobuchar, even (LOL) Hillary who pretend to be centrist and non-Marxist. Just something to guard against.

MissMarple2

Unlike many, I do NOT think Trump is an idiot. For one thing, he managed to outfox all of his GOP rivals, beat Hillary Clinton, and accomplish far more in his first 2 years than any other president in my lifetime.

How does he get so many trade deals done? How does he know about moving money and using executive orders?

Here is a short clip of an interview he did with Oprah in 1988. He spoke of many of the policies he promotes today:

I doubt "many" genuinely think Trump is an idiot. Many say so because he's dangerous to them. Just as many claimed that Reagan was an amiable dunce, and that W was a chimp. I think Nixon was the last Republican president that the left didn't label an idiot of some sort. They don't seem to get the fact that most of the country is on to their antics.

clarice

Thanks.
Some idiot. His "conservative critics" are on life support, and his political opponents are engaged in a bitter internecine battle. If someone not demonstrably insane gets the nomination, their base (which seems to be people under 21,single never-to-be married white women ,Somalis, and black women) will desert them.

Narciso79

At best she is an idiot, at worst shes objectively dangerous, Quayle was dinged because he was young but mostly because he was a young Christian Male who was pro defense. Bill Clinton was a corrupt horndog who brought disrepute to this country.

hrtshpdbox

I don't think he's an idiot, but I think he's plenty abhorrent sometimes, and is not above criticism. Trump says things sometimes that he knows are not true. Some would call that "lying", I would just say he's a New Yorker talking some merde.

My point was that people like Kristol and Hayes and whoever got so hung up on Trump not being a polite gentleman that they don't see his virtues.

The Infamous Ignatz

I think we underestimate how little the nevertrump shitbirds actually believe in conservative political principles.
They like to debate the theory of conservatism and they know they don't like a lot of prog ideas but in a lot of ways these political commentators are apolitical.
In a way they are the only real conservative ideologues.

True conservatives embrace a political philosophy, not an ideology, and therefore are engaged in a battle to implement a nuts and bolts, practical political framework to maximize liberty, limit government and prevent power grabs by the state.

The nevertrump ideologues have always been characterized by a pie-in-the-sky debating society in which some future conservative paradise will blossom and the entire world will enjoy Georgetown cocktail parties, fine cigars and wearing docker shoes without socks, khakis and blue blazers.
They adhere to a vague cultural conservatism and wish to leave the politics to the hired help. It's not that they all are or even any of them are rich. They just think they should be. In a just, culturally conservative world, men who swank about writing boring political drivel and cultural dirges would actually own vast Sea Cucks and the Trumps of the world would be swabbing their poop decks for them.
T Coddington Van Voorhess VII is a caricature to us, but an aspiration to them.

And BTW, Goldbrick's commentary has always been "colorful" in the same way the high school nerd with the permanent melvin wrote colorful commentary for the school newspaper.
He's an adolescent hack and always has been. If I read another lame segue about his effin dog or another retarded Star Wars reference I'm gonna gag.

Sen. Warner: ‘Plenty of Evidence’ Trump Collaborated with Russia

“There’s lots of evidence. The question is, what kind of conclusion we’re going to reach. The three pieces of evidence that came out of Cohen’s testimony, and let me be first to acknowledge, Mr. Cohen doesn’t have a great record of veracity. Matter of fact, he is going to jail, partially because of lies he made to the Senate intelligence committee, although the president doesn’t have a good record is telling the truth as well. But the three facts that I thought were new to the investigation, one, the fact that, and I believe there’s extra evidence on this, that Donald Trump and Michael Cohen misled the American public for months.”

He added, “Cohen put out the fact that he believes that Mr. Trump knew about the meeting in Trump Tower that included Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, the campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Clearly, a meeting that was not about Russian adoptions but what about the idea of turning over dirt on Hillary Clinton. You add that on top of Paul Manafort giving campaign materials. So, anyone that says there’s no evidence of collaboration, there’s plenty of evidence. The question is, what kind of full conclusion do we reach, and I’m going to reserve my judgment on that conclusion until we finish our investigation.”

Nadler: ‘It’s Very Clear That the President Obstructed Justice’

“Our core job is to protect the rule of law, and there have been no investigations. We have seen real threats to the rule of law from this White House, whether personal enrichment where the White House seems to use his power for personal enrichment, the violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. We have seen abuses of power in obstruction of justice, threats to the Mueller investigation, threats to witnesses. All of these have to be investigated and laid out to the American people. ”

Host George Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you think the president obstructed justice?”

Nadler replied, “Yes, I do. It’s very clear that the president obstructed justice. It’s very clear. 1,100 times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a witch hunt. He tried to protect Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to stop the Russia thing as he told NBC news. He has dangled pardons. He has intimidated witnesses in public.”

WHY ARE DEMOCRATS OBSESSED ABOUT SLAVERY?
Exclusive: Craige McMillan says gov't dependence is based on 'a master-slave relationship'

Read more at https://www.wnd.com/2019/03/why-are-democrats-obsessed-about-slavery/#yCLJ0Xvc54ArdBDF.99

"A Tennessee school district apologized Thursday after a homework assignment asked students to pretend their “family owns slaves.”

Actually, it was a pretty good assignment. I don’t think Dr. Mike Looney, director of Williamson County schools, should have apologized. It was a thoughtful assignment and would likely have benefited the students, their families and even critics. The students were eighth-graders, and were asked, “Imagine that their family owns slaves and then ‘create a list of expectations’ for those slaves.

Besides, which slaves in that school district were offended?

Dr. Looney’s real problem wasn’t that he touched the slavery-rail of “I’m offended politics”; it was that he asked students in his district to think. You see, thinking about things means you might arrive at the wrong conclusion."
