The traditional Sunday morning cop-out.
ASIDE: I have enjoyed Jonah Goldberg's colorful commentary for years, but are these the ones we were waiting for? Over to Frank J. Fleming:
It sounds like Jonah Goldberg’s new media venture will be aimed at people who think Trump is kind of an abhorrent idiot but don’t constantly have our freak out meter set to 11, but will he be able to attract all four of us to his site?

As a former Episcopalian I don't remember having to give up anything for Lent like the mackerel snappers did, other than fasting on Good Friday and maybe Ash Wednesday and an odd day like Shrove Tuesday. Since I've already given up using see you next Tuesday for a-mom I don't feel the need for any further curb of profanity. I could probably join Marlene in giving up wine since I don't usually drink it despite having a small collection in the basement that I've accumulated over time from gifts. I'm not giving up bashing Jeff Sessions after DJT blasted that worthless codger at CPAC.
Fuck it, I'm not giving up anything.

That's less gruesome than others, but modern Bugatti really can't make a good looking car.
In fact what they now make are in most respects the antithesis of Ettore's true calling. He did make a few vast, garish boats, but his heart and soul were small, light, simple, elegant jewels on wheels.

OK, report from the front--my momma, a faithful CBS Morning show watcher, who thinks Gail and Nora hung the moon.
So that's where she gets her "News."
We spoke Sunday, and I was updating her on my former partner's activities. Retired partner will be testifying today at the NM legislature (hopefully; Ds delayed her testimony Thursday) to graphically describe exactly how these late second semester elective baby murders go down. So, of course, I said--"like that bill they passed in NY" And of course, that was the first momma had heard of it---so I told her about it, as well as the proposed VA one, with it's killing live, birthed babies.
She is SHOCKED! "Who is behind this???"
This morning I had to call her again, and she reported she went w my sister and her Lutheran minister husband last evening to see their college man and his choir (on tour) perform at his old boarding school, where my brother's son is senior.
"So I asked SIL if he knew about this, and he said no. " (That's not exactly true--but maybe a good way to get somebody to express their opinion first???) "And he was just as shocked as I am."
I think I may have gotten us a vote!!!---or at least the issue that is finally going to make her examine the Ds policies a bit more carefully. Because having all five of her kids vote R hasn't done it.
(And turning people who do vote for the other side is worth TWO votes, according to an Instapundit post yesterday!)
Not quite as miraculous as MM's daughter finally seeing the light, but that's made me hopeful.

Much as I hate to say it, because I like him, but I think that's a commentary that Cruz has a lot of intangibles that turn people off. I think that has a side benefit in making the donks think that a borderline retarded buck toothed fake Mexican mick is a lot more popular than he really is.

I think it's telling that Beto chose not to challenge Cornyn, but instead is going to launch a (nearly) completely pointless campaign for president.
If Texas was really that close to trending blue, Beto would be able to take the momentum from his near win against Cruz and take out Cornyn, right?
Well, it turns out that a lot of Republicans just don't like Cruz.

(If you do watch it, please explain the end to us. I can't remember who does still see movies. I'm guessing NOT you though.)
I'm not sure what I am going to do. Spouse says "we already did Dry January."
And that beautiful John Shroeder column someone posted about Lent in the times of such darkness is truly inspirational.
http://www.hughhewitt.com/for-lent/
The writer of Hebrews tells us that joy is found, even in injustice, by an eternal, long term perspective. And in Acts we find that joy goes hand-in-hand with the presence of God’s Holy Spirit.
I think it is safe to conclude that not only will being upbeat and joyful help us help the world, but it is a necessary outcome of our close relationship with the Lord.
This year for Lent I think we should give up playing defense and start to play offense. But not the sort of militaristic offense you see in football or military action – rather an offense of positivity and life, marked by joy. I think this would be a great Lenten theme song.

I'm here for you, a-mom!
Posted by: Captain Hate | March 05, 2019 at 10:32 AM
Cruz has more than an intangible problem with voters. He did irreparable harm to himself by embracing the lunatic Glenn Beck and rushing stuffed door prizes to the army of invaders that were rushing his own Texas border. Being a dick about Trump winning the nomination didn't help either. And a marriage to a Goldman Sachs fatcat? This guy has real problems.
His El Chapo bill was grandstanding at best. (Like most of his smoke and mirror stuff; "I put a poison pill in the immigration bill that really wasn't a poison pill.")
I could go on.
After Mark Levin wrapped himself in a Ted Cruz flag (thanks to Mark's daughter working for Ted's campaign), the obvious regarding Cruz gets overlooked.
