Social justice warriors scored a big win yesterday, forcing an apology from the late Maya Angelou over a transgression of hers from 1990.
Her outrage? Asking a fourteen year old to address her as "Ms. Angelou" rather than the overly familiar "Maya".
And how disdshe apologize from beyond the grave? Is it time to go long Ouija boards?
First, waddya mean you don't already have a Ouija board? Second, she apologized ten minutes later in the same venue to the young lady still in the audience.
So there. We're still waiting to hear an apology from The Duke.
And on the "Lose Some" side, SJWs will bemoan the news that the once-abhorrent James Gunn will be back at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy III despite some indescribable and instantly forgettable outrage eight months ago. We have a hint that the firing was a bit of kabuki:
In the weeks after firing Gunn, there was speculation around town about who could replace the filmmaker, with agents lining up clients but by mid-fall, any perceived search seemed to have petered out, with many thinking that the project was on the back burner. What almost no one knew was that Marvel and Disney had never undertaken a search and had gone back to Gunn and made a deal ... in secret, according to insiders.
Hope for Roseanne Barr?

I wonder if it could end up being the Lehman Brothers of the higher ed bubble.

Sandy, previous thread.
All one needs to know about the state of affairs in our trillion dollar navy is that within just a few months they drove two perfectly good highest of high tech super-costly warships right into slow moving cargo ships that were minding their own business, killing many sailors.
One does not even have to read about the actual recent war game simulations to know that this is not the Navy that won the war in the Pacific after spotting the enemy Pearl Harbor.
Just add it to the list of hollowed out institutions that are not anything like the taxpayers think they are for all the treasure spent on them.

"Still illegal."
"That doesn't follow. No, I want it more, sir. Do you understand me? What are you laughing at? What? I can't have a discussion with this gentleman?"

Old Lurker,
Before you go down the Path of Pessimism, we don't know who else is going to be indicted.
Given the numbers of Ivy graduates in the government, and given Bill and Hillary and Obama's degrees, we might see a few surprises.
After all, until they announced the arrests none of us knew this scam was going on nor that it was being investigated.
Would you be surprised if the Clinton Foundation was involved in Collegegate? I wouldn't. They skim money off of everything.

Porch "I think the college admissions scandal has the potential to snowball. There can't have been only 50 clients and this can't have been the only scheme of its kind in operation."
Agree 100%.
And they could do that Monday morning simply by asking the IRS for a list of contributors from the last ten years to the tax exempt charity that was being used to run the enterprise. Like Al Capone, one need not look any further than a person paying a crook to break a law and then have the balls to write the bribe off as a charitable deduction on the tax return.

The story is both right and wrong, OL. That is because both the press and the President are playing technical word games to keep their concert goers in their seats begging for an encore.
What has been constructed in San Diego is a new wall system to replace the old landing mat system. So it is new. Does it cover and new land, no.
Is it more effective and closer to what local agents want? A huge "yes."
Trump has had a tough road on what should have been far more simple had Paul Ryan been helpful. At the same time I am not bothered by Coulter's relentless hammering on the fact that the concert goers are losing their voice screaming "build the wall" while never actually hearing the tune.

Just as you glossed over the post the other day showing the erection of spiffy new 18' climbable walls where others were expecting 30'.
Are the stories right or wrong?
Just because we stick with Trump doesn't mean we have to parrot things that might not be accurate.

It's true about the Bushes hating Cruz because of Dewhurst but the Bushes don't carry much influence among Texas voters anymore. Cruz just isn't that likeable and Texas Republicans didn't think Beto was a serious threat, so they didn't turn out.

We had a similar situation in Ohio where voters chose Mike DeWine for governor but didn't go for Jim Renacci for the Senate. In both cases lots of money bought ads for the D candidate but, unlike Renacci, Cruz had the incumbency advantage. You'll never figure out the real reason for the ballot splits unless you asked every single voter but somethings caused the disconnect.

The MSM is just assuming that the request for extending Gates sentencing means Mueller is requesting an extension for the investigation. The real question is what investigation is Gates cooperating with? If it’s the case against Podesta, Craig and Weber that SDNY is in charge of, then it’s possible the stuff Mueller is looking into is over. If it’s something Mueller himself is investigating then there is really no need for him to request an extension to the SC since there never was a deadline.
Another question I would like to know is who is leaking to the media that the Mueller SC is about to wrap up? This is like the fourth or fifth time there have been reports that the end of the Mueller SC was imminent. Is it someone from Trump’s team leaking to the media or is it someone from the Deep State Swamp leakIng?

Pretty soon you are going to tell me a white caucasian can check the box claiming to be an American Indian and then get hired by Harvard College for $300,000 per year, and then imagine herself President of the country which conquered her people.
Nobody would believe that silly story.

I can imagine the conversation, peter.
"Son, you're a white male. If we don't do this, you'll be passed over for someone less qualified anyway."
"Gee, Mom, I hate to cheat, but when you put it that way..."

LANSING — More than 20 Michigan Republican lawmakers traveled to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and other vacation spots in the past two years where, on one day, they attended a seminar sponsored by a California group pushing to change how Michigan awards its electoral votes for president.
In September, weeks after several flew to Hawaii, GOP lawmakers introduced bills supporting the effort to decide U.S. presidential contests by a national popular vote.

Obama opted instead to honor Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Robert De Niro, Ellen DeGeneres, Cicely Tyson, Lorne Michaels, Diana Ross and Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Rupert Pupkin would approve.

Speaking of my birth state ...
CAs AG Becerra is awful and the NY AG is hyper partisan but MIs AG is making a push to join their parade. I remember Soros had a program to target state SoS offices in order to control vote counting but I'm suddenly noticing a lot of fascist AGs as well. I'm guessing WI may be another, judging by the new governor.
