Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States!

buckeye- so far so good with pain. This will be my first day off of the heavy pain meds so fingers crossed. The anesthesia was my biggest worry and it was great - I don't remember a thing from the time they put in the needle until they were walking me out to the car. :)

We are so blessed to live in a time when we have these medicines to keep us comfortable and not the days of visits to the blacksmith!

Great summary of the Kennedy clan (JamesD) and the current candidates (MM) - I am saving both of your comments. Sometimes I do that for when I need a quick reference of statements or positions. No greater place to compile these than here at JOM. Thanks!

Response from my Marine pal:

Great article. The ROEs are just fucked. We had dinner one night with the son of our friend who was a Colonel in the Corps. His son filled us in on the ROEs he was instructed to follow when on his way to Afghanistan. We were all shocked and had a heated conversation after he left the dinner. We were unanimous is calling BS on the rules, and this included folks from WWII, Korea, vietnam and Desert Storm. More over a cocktail.

Re cooking the story for political purposes, it’s sad but true. I had friends who were in the OSS, and early CIA and they all shared the observations re politicalization of the Agency. And, the Agency got all the big stories wrong over the years. Now with this latest treasonous attempt overthrow a duly executed president they are beyond worthless, even dangerous, and have no one’s respect and need a complete overhaul.

Tom R

Trump is on a roll. The key question is what constitutes “can no longer be legally held”? Does that only apply to illegal aliens who are seeking political asylum and a judge has granted it?

Dave (in MA)

The top 25 male finishers in Boston came in ahead of the woman who "won" the Marathon, with the slowest one still 5 minutes faster than the female winner. How long before some dude pulls the tranny card in one of these?

Mom to--whenever I have a painful med procedure or an annoying one--like MRIs--I have the same thought--I'm grateful we have these for our benefit after all.

The Mueller Report, which was written by 18 Angry Democrats who also happen to be Trump Haters (and Clinton Supporters), should have focused on the people who SPIED on my 2016 Campaign, and others who fabricated the whole Russia Hoax. That is, never forget, the crime.....

....Since there was no Collusion, why was there an Investigation in the first place! Answer - Dirty Cops, Dems and Crooked Hillary!

Extraneus

Does that only apply to illegal aliens who are seeking political asylum and a judge has granted it?

No. They can only be held for 20 days, and then are released into the country while pursuing asylum claims, most never showing up at their court hearings.

[The] Flores Consent Decree from 1997. It says that unaccompanied children can be held only 20 days. A ruling by the Ninth Circuit extended this 20-day limit to children who come as part of family units. So even if we want to hold a family unit together, we are forbidden from doing so.

JM Hanes

Tom R:

I could be mistaken, but I believe a parent with child can only be held something like 30 days, after which release is mandatory -- regardless of whether their case has even been heard (which seems unlikely, given the backlog we keep hearing about)

That Jen Rubin link on the previous page is mind-blowing, even by her low standards.

Do any of these people think about what they're saying for even two seconds? Do they realize how utterly pathetic whining about Fox News makes them sound, as though one solitary channel that's only even vaguely conservative maybe six hours out of every twenty-four, is SO powerful that it can outweigh the influence of the Big Three networks, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, most local news, the NYT, the WaPo, AP, and 98% of the faculty at just about every college in the country?

Rush is more powerful than FNC.

And every time he says something that jangles the nerves of the MFM/Prog universe, they all get on the "hate bandwagon". I love it when he plays the compilation of them all saying the same thing as if it is synchronized:)

Which, of course, it is.

I have an appointment with the guy who is reputed to be the best spinal neurosurgeon in town on the 26th.

If he inspires confidence, will get it done here.

If not, I will explore options.

Extraneus

I think that's the loophole Trump keeps talking about.

I wish he would stop talking and just do it. Ship them to sanctuary cities or stop with the idle threats. Even Obama didn't issue idle threats, he just quietly shipped "refugees" like Omar to wherever he wanted.

Buckeye

I could be mistaken, but I believe a parent with child can only be held something like 30 days,

"Parent with child" has been exploited to flood the system.

I have heard they are starting to use instant DNA testing to establish a bona fide relationship.

Anybody have confirmation?

jimmyk

James D, it's the fish not knowing what "wet" means phenomenon. The left is so bathed in leftist dogma that they think the MSM is unbiased. Ok, they might concede that MSNBC has a slight left tilt. But otherwise, NYT/WaPo/ABC/CBS/NBC are all straight shooters.

MissMarple2

Buckeye,

I read that in a tweet but like you, I don't have confirmation from a reliable source.

Extraneus

I think it's the totalitarian urge to stamp out any opposing voices, no matter how small.

Jack is Back!

Buckeye,

We used to have a major Pro-Am Golf Tourney here at my course. One of our members is a retired cardiac surgeon from Columbus. His course there, which I forget, but not Muirfield, put together a 4 man team, which included John P. McConnell, of Worthington Industries and Blue Jacket ownership.

He flew the team down on his private jet. I officiated that tournament. Nice guy. Very warm, personable.

MissMarple2

Extraneus,

I disagree.

1. By tweeting about it and talking about it to the press it got all of the dems upset and acting like the sainted illegals really WERE trouble, demonstrating how hypocritical they are.

2. Dropping them off at select places like in front of the governor's mansion in Sacramento will get television coverage, which will make people in non-sanctuary cities and states be very happy they are not dealing with it.

3. People like Cher make fools of themselves, which adds to our enjoyment.

4. It is quite possible this will get Congress to actually do something.

If he "just did it" we wouldn't know, we wouldn't get any TV coverage, and people like Gavin Newsom would probably figure out a way to bus them out of California to Utah or Idaho, quietly and not covered by the press.

jimmyk

I think it's the totalitarian urge to stamp out any opposing voices, no matter how small.

Yes, that too.

At some point, after some more immediate traitors have been dealt with, the Joint Chiefs need to answer for this.

For every useful thing McTurtle does, he has to go and do something like this:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/apr/11/mitch-mcconnell-tells-2020-republicans-run-indepen/

“My advice to all of our people — take Gardner, and McSally, maybe Tillis and maybe Perdue — paint your own picture. What difference has your service made? And our races are big enough that where you can make a case independent of whatever else is going on,” he said.

There's more at the link, but that's representative of the garbage he's spewing.

GUS

Who the FUCK is Jen Rubin, other than a FULL COMMIE self loathing JEW?

James D.

CH @ 1:04

Oh, absolutely.

But I'd also like to see a comparison of the ROEs on foreign battlefields, vs the ROEs that are being taught to police like Officer Noor and his partner. Because it sure seems like we are holding our troops in war zones to a higher standard of behavior than to police in suburban neighborhoods. And that's not OK.

I agree.
Ship them out to California, Sacramento and Seattle.
Then they can sort them out.

Mom-

Remmber how I have mentioned that pain meds wit codine don't realy work fo me and al the grief it has caused over the years? I paidfor the narcotic slep for my tooth extraction and implant and tried to warn them before the surgery. s usual you could tell they thought I was just looking for 'better' pain med's.

So I woke up during the surgery because oral surgeon was afraid if she gave me more narcotics I would stop breathing. I did stop breathing when I had wisdom teeth out. Doc told hubby she'd never seen anyone metabolize narcotics like that. He said he was hoping it didn't show up in any of our kids.

Maybe I should sign up for an ncbi study or something.

Old Lurker

So today I had that pesky old guy medical procedure which requires not eating or drinking for a day, then consuming about 5 gallons of vile liquid and spending the night in the bathroom.

Upon awakening in the recovery room and after being told all was good, the discharge nurse came in to give me the cautions for the rest of the day.

#4 on the list was to sign no important documents for 24 hours. I replied that would not be possible since this is "Tax Day". She said I should have done them yesterday.

I replied that I thought about that but if I might not have survived the procedure, then why should I waste the tax money?

That is OL humor coming off the magic gas.

BREAKING NEWS: Huge fire reported at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.

https://twitter.com/pzf/status/1117838789248995328

Tom R

https://twitter.com/wikileaks/status/1001139404805738498?s=21

Wikileaks weighs in on the QAnon phenomenon.

Obviously Wikileaks is opposed to the US’ attempts to bring Assange to justice. Among pro-Trump supporters there is a split between people who believe QAnon is legit while some believe it’s just trolls on 4/8chan that are having fun jerking everyone’s chains and believing their fabricated predictions. One thing no one can deny is that whoever is behind QAnon they have consistently supported Trump and attacked the Deep State. That makes the following comment from the embedded article come across as misinformation.

So on one hand we’ve got WikiLeaks insiders saying QAnon is a likely psyop designed to Pied Piper the populist right into supporting establishment agendas

Who in their right mind that has been following the QAnon phenomenon would ever make the claim they are supporting the establishment agenda? They are clearly pro-Trump/pro-MAGA and anti-Deep State/Swamp.

Does the fact Wikileaks is trying to spread misinformation that QAnon is trying to advocate an establishment agenda a signal that QAnon could be legit? Wikileaks claims QAnon is running a psyop. The US military is well versed in running psyop operations. It’s been a viable tactic to defeat the enemy for generations. I imagine there are numerous people working for the Defense Intelligence Agency more than capable of running a psyops campaign like QAnon. Of course my confirmation bias of being a Trump supporter and Army vet is kicking in on that possibility.

That Notre Dame fire looks pretty bad:

(short video at link)

Old Lurker

Uh Oh Henry...first pics show a huge fire at Notre Dame Cathedral.

Our National Cathedral is still being repaired after the earthquake here, what, almost ten years ago? And that was just stone work with no fire damage involved.

Good luck getting the NEW French to make the financial sacrifices their forefathers made in building that cathedral the first time around.

jimmyk

I wondered how many fires Notre Dame has had over the years. Wiki doesn't mention any, though it has this:

A water reservoir, covered with a lead roof, is located between the two towers, behind the colonnade and the gallery and in front of the nave and the pignon. It can be used to quickly extinguish a fire.

Guess that didn't work so well.

MissMarple2

BBC says it may be linked to renovations underway.

henry

the scaffolding is on fire too.

Old Lurker

Speaking as a real estate guy, anytime you see evidence of major renovation underway on or near an old building, the fear of a fire is first to mind. I have been following the pictures of the major work underway so my "rule" applies.

As Jack will attest, structures which have survived for centuries might still be structurally balanced on a knife edge when you monkey with anything in the area.

Jack is Back!

The Cathedral is under major renovation. They just got done removing all the statutes, gargoyles, and other pediments, architectural accessories etc.

You can bet it is construction related. Most likely, either cutting torch or blow torch for heavy paint removal.

Old Lurker

Henry, walk boards burn nicely, as does some of the safety netting.

Now in Asia, the vertical supports might be bamboo so imagine that.

Will be nice to hear what JiB thinks.

Captain Hate

Urine colored rants update:

Question, Mr. Patterico: Do you think that allegations of FISA abuse and political bias in the DOJ/FBI merit a special counsel?

From what I have seen, the allegations are overblown, with comfortable but exaggerated or false tropes having been adopted by partisans such as yourself, Munroe, and repeated ad infinitum as if they were Gospel. That said, there are aspects of what has happened that raise questions, and if I thought a non-politicized analysis (as opposed to the utter tripe that is the Nunes memo) justified an investigation, and I thought it could be done with the professionalism that Robert Mueller brought to his investigation, then sure, I’d be OK with that.

At this point, I’m unconvinced there is any reason to investigate the “oranges” of an investigation that, to me, seems to have been mandatory given the damning circumstances that presented themselves.

I say this for the benefit of others, not for you. Frankly, I have no interest in debating with you, Munroe. Your history of comments here does not show you to be someone worth interacting with. But I throw this out there for the benefit of hearing from others whom I *do* respect.

speak of the devil...

jimmyk

OL, there was a fire in our (pre-war) building a few years ago in an apartment undergoing renovations. The culprit was oily rags, which apparently can spontaneously combust. We weren't affected, and as usual I think the FD did more damage than the fire.

Old Lurker

Jimmy "The culprit was oily rags, which apparently can spontaneously combust."

Ask me how I learned THAT lesson...

Momto2

rse - I DO remember you telling me that. I am not a big fan of narcotics and try to get off of them asap. I had to fight with Grady when I was in there because Morphine makes me nauseous and with my neck in a brace, I feared I would aspirate. The stronger one - Dilaudid is approximately 8 times more potent than morphine - but it was the only thing that didn't make me sick. Once transferred to the floor, they didn't want to give it to me. Thankfully, my children were there to intervene. It did cause me to see a gorilla in my room :) but no pain and no nausea!

We know our bodies better than anyone and they need to listen to us when we've had prior problems with certain medications.

Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!

Jack is Back!

St. Patrick's in New York just last year finished a major 5-year renovation. A real PITA if you were in town on Sunday and wanted to attend mass there.

However, I was able to snoop around and found that the construction manager for Murphy Burnham & Buttrick had a very good work and structure safety plan. $177 million that also installed a deep earth geothermal heating and cooling system.

The biggest issue in any church renovation is all the wood in place, from pews to choir lofts etc. Also for the septs, you have large wood trusses for the roofs. Anytime you are going to use cutting tools and gases, you need a safety guy standing by with fire suppression equipment. The Notre Dame fire appears to be "no-safety" related.

Captain Hate

I'm not upset, Miss Marple; I think it's great Tiger and Trump are friends because it 100% trolls the ESPN dolts.

jimmyk

I'm not seeing any actual firefighting equipment in any of the pictures of the fire.

Jack is Back!

New Thread. Where I will provide some info about Notre Dame and why it might be a catastrophe.

Jane

MM,

That's very cool. And this is for you JIB from a friend on Facebook:

The debate over 1986 and 2019 will be a rich one, the kind that will never be decided. Whom among us can say which man hit the better shot into the green at Red Bud? Which hug between father and son was most meaningful? Would Tiger worry that his final round of 70, acquired by cunning and patience, lacked the luster of Jack’s 65, the last ten holes of which looked like Secretariat at The Belmont? Would Jack conclude that, even though he was 46, and Tiger only 43 in the moment, that he had never faced the injuries, delicate surgeries, and painful rehab that Tiger endured to claw his way back?

I’m certain of one thing. Next year, on Tuesday of Masters Week, the two men will sit side by side at The Champion’s Dinner. One will pass the other the salt and pepper. Their eyes will meet, and an unspoken truth will pass between them:

“It’s good to be us. It’s good to be at Augusta. It’s good to have given to the world what Bob Jones wanted us to give.”
