Looks like you might not have picked the most opportune time to start rooting for Tampa Bay.

Stunning that the clear best team in the regular season isn’t just losing, but getting nuked from orbit, by Columbus.

Wonderful that the Islanders are putting the smack down on the loathsome Penguins, too. Assuming the Capitals keep up their end of the bargain, Barry Trotz vs the team he took to the Stanley Cup just last season will be a heck of a matchup in the second round.

Tiger Woods

I can’t thank my family, friends and fans enough for their support. Having my family by my side today is something I will never forget. To not only be able to play again, but to be able to win again, is something I will forever be grateful for. This jacket sure is comfortable.

Catsmeat, regarding Jekyll & Hyde, these quotes caught my attention [Location is from Kindle]:

Loc 2577: He was wild when he was young; a long while ago to be sure; but in the law of God, there is no statute of limitations.

Loc 9308: Hence it came about that I concealed my pleasures; and that when I reached years of reflection, ... [youth vs. maturity]

Loc. 9433: both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual [as opposed to youth vs. maturity]

Loc 9600: I began to perceive more deeply than it has yet ever been stated, the trembling immateriality, the mistlike transience, of this seemingly so solid body in which we walk attired

Loc. 10009: This, too, was myself [animal vs. intellectual]

Loc 10834: That part of me which I had the power of projecting [one side was stronger, until it was not.]

Loc 11013: While Jekyll would suffer smartingly in the fires of abstinance, Hyde would be not even conscious of all that he had lost. [Rationality is not how we think; rationality is how we check our work. ... absent in so many we deal with]

Loc 12348: had it not been for his fear of death, he [Hyde] would long ago have ruined himself in order to involve me in the ruin.

Now that I have age, I can see how this applies to Death in Venice where there the main character has no resignation and acceptance of one’s own transience in life.

Many today have no sense of time and their place in it -- which should be something to celebrate, not mourn and regret.

“loathsome Penguins”?

Loathsome? Really?

I hasten to add that my profession of new found interest in backing Tampa Bay in the Stanley Cup was pretty much squashed by a nearby denizen at the rooftop bar at The Epicurean Thursday. His resemblance to Elvis Costello was, I expect, carefully nurtured but hey who doesn’t like porkpie hats these days? I don’t remember EC having that many forearm tats but my memory isn’t what it used to be...😎

She’s a momma’s girl Lyle, so I’m never worried about getting her on the leash before we leave the house. I think she set off to chase a rabbit, which she never does, then it was so dark I couldnt find her. I think she ran someplace we usually don’t go. So I walked the whole usual nighttime route after failing to find a flashlight and by the time I got home, she was home. Now she is snoring! 🤣

Sp glad Kiwi came back home! What a scare!

Heading to bed.

sbw--that collection of quotes is very interesting--all not just reflections of the divide between the lower self and the higher but between the older self and the younger one--written just as RLS himself first started to realize he was no young man. His perpetual bad health (from childhood) meant that he probably reflected on this change earlier than most. And so interesting that Hyde at least fears death--but animals fear death, it seems--Hyde fears death not because of hell but because of dissolution, perhaps. Great selection of quotes. I teach the story in my grad seminar on the fin de siecle on Tuesday night, along with Darwin's Descent of Man--I'll bring some of these to their attention--thanks for reading the thing!

So often you earn your name.

Troo dat, especially when it comes to slicing through the bullshit. Do you want a list of golfers that weren't major cock hounds? The Golden Bear, Ben Hogan, probably Snead and Bobby Jones. Not family guy Arnold Palmer; a couple of my buds went to school with his bastard daughter. Likewise DJ who got in trouble for banging other pro's wives. Athletes around country clubs; what could go wrong? Am I supposed to act like you don't have an unrealistic view of Tiger?

Again, Trump has liberated me from the notion that we need saints in positions of responsibility and high visibility. He's already proven to be the best man for the job since Reagan, and maybe better than him. Am I supposed to act like that dunce, Patterico, and pretend that we need someone who never had any marital woes. Hell, even Reagan was divorced. Plus Trump acts like an adult with visiting heads of state unlike that overgrown child and borderline retard in office previously who illustrated what being raised by the town whore produces.

I'm glad for Tiger today strictly because Trump and he like each other. Plus it was a major accomplishment to overcome the injuries he had; I honestly thought his career was finished.

Loved the car talk yesterday. Funny how station wagons were popular and then died out. Kids hated them even when they made sense for families that could only afford one car. The kids swore they'd never buy something so dowdy looking.

So goodbye station wagon and hello mini-van when they grew up and needed that same carrying capacity. The mini-van was considered a truck and didn't need to meet the fuel economy standard of cars which included station wagons.

Those kids hated the bulky mini-vans and swore they wouldn't drive one when they got older. Same problem with the station wagons, so what did they buy when they needed carrying capacity, they bought SUVs and sleeker, more stylish mini-vans.

What's next?

jim nj

Are you equating generators with umbrellas?

Like if you have one on an iffy day you won't need it?

good thing i'm not driving anywhere tonight.

I had an interesting thought on a subject that some of us have debated here.

The open source investigators that post threads on what they think is going on by linking up things they believe should be linked.

There are quite a few of them. Some sketchier than others linking things not quite so well. Others who seem to be spot on about particular aspects of the plot and cover-up.

Should the best of them be part of the official investigation and how would that work?

Is there someone or a team of people on the prosecutor's level that is tracking their thinking and following those leads?

Should they make their own referrals to the Justice Dept.?

Anybody care to comment on this?

I'd like to see if we can expand on this to some worthy end.

jim nj

I'm sure the sports-books made a profit on all of the Master's betting, but they had great odds if you were a Tiger Woods fan.

One $85,000 bet on Tiger paid out $1.2 million.

What's that, roughly 13:1 without a calculator nearby.

Heavy rain, lightening and thunder boomers in north Jersey just now.

Am I the only one confused about headlines that refer to transgender men and women.

When they refer to the sex do they mean their latter, or present day, modifications. Or is this just some aspirational thing?

Good morning!

Here is Maria Bartiromo's program from yesterday morning:

Lindsey Graham is really good, and so are Dioud Collins and Mark Meadows at the end. You can fast forward past the democrat in the middle.

I too have to walk through what gender the person being referred to is chosing to live by, and what they are biologically almost each and every time I read "transgender man" or "transgender female," and I need the context of the story most of the time as well.

Like with the Morehouse College story even---where you might think I'd "get it" from the get go. Nope.

Geez---wonder what this all is like for my 95 year old aunt! No wonder she's ready to meet her maker!

Exactly! You're a doctor so you should be open to these things.

I understand that some babies are born with ambiguous genitalia and surgeons do their best to perform corrective surgery. Maybe they are wrong sometimes.

I think I understand that homosexuality is not a choice, but something inherent we don't understand. I know so many good people that have struggled with this since they came through puberty. They never had an identity crisis before puberty. They struggled to understand themselves after that.

This whole idea of transgender awareness before hitting puberty seems very wrong.

That "professionals" of any kind would subscribe to this theory, to my mind, ranks them with past "eugenicist.s"

jim nj,

I wonder about those investigators on Twitter, too. Who would have thought such a subset of people would appear? Some are quite good.

Seems like some use could be made of their findings.
