Background for my 8:21

MissMarple2

I do NOT wish Paul Ryan well. He refused to bring up immigration and dragged his feet on a lot of other things, so that we didn't get things passed that should have been while we still had the majority.

I hope he gets trapped in a faculty lounge and is browbeaten by Buttigieg's 2 Marxist parents.
His protestations of "that's not who we are" will fall on deaf ears.

Extraneus

How could they possibly know this definitively before the fire is even completely out?

It's the old "no evidence" game. Have you looked for evidence? No, but we haven't found any.

Buckeye

It's also amazing that "no evidence of arson" less than 24 hours after the fire is accepted as a valid conclusion while TWO YEARS of investigation with "no evidence of collusion" is immediately branded fake.

Touche' MM

Extraneus

And therefore, there's no evidence.

A miracle. The North Rose not only dates from the 13th century, but has also remained in place on its original axis, unlike the South Rose. No lead spoke aligns with the center, which gives the North Rose a hypnotic sense of movement. Like a wheel about to turn in front of you.

Re. JMH’s comment above about rebuilding ND, I’ve read that the old tall oak trees needed to replace the beams simply don’t exist anymore.

Given the sheer amount of wood some question whether it could be rebuilt using wood. That seems a stretch to me.

I’m assuming the environuts would prohibit lead on a new roof.

Captain Hate

J Geils died over two years ago.

Another Bob

In that photo, I’m wondering if the fire companies knocked that hole in the roof?

My closest encounter with a 'Gator was on our Links course. You can walk and carry your bag after 2:30pm. To cross from the No. 1 green to the No.2 tee box you have to walk under the main club road. As I turned the corner to walk under, there was an 8' 300# King of the Swamp just casually strolling from the lake on #2 over to the one on #4 tee box.

I backed up carefully back up the path to the No. 1 green and watched him stroll over to the No.4 tee box and ease himself into the water:)

Here's what our local TV station has written about what Ryan will be teaching:

"The school announced Monday that the Republican from Wisconsin will discuss topics during the 2019-20 academic year including the fundamentals of American government, the current state of political polarization, and Catholicism and economics."

I would like to see his lecture notes on "the current state of political polarization."

Buckeye

ND students should insist on a discount for not taking his class.

A-bob...

Years ago I was treated to an insiders' tour of all the non public areas of our National Cathedral by an old timer who had been there for half of it's construction, and who carried the world's biggest key ring. He told me to "dress for dirty".

Mind boggling how huge and complex are all the "back stage" areas of a classic gothic building like that.

So I fully appreciate the difficulty the French firemen faced yesterday.

I can only imagine the revised planning for Notre Dame underway today at the Washington National Cathedral. Those are folks that have detailed plans running to hundreds of pages for state events like funerals (eg, one big binder for each living POTUS, etc) or attacks...all micro planned with the Pentagon and SS teams.

I would imagine by the end of this week there will be a telephone tree just for the emergency removal of art, tapestries and books into the underground gym of the girls' school that can be triggered on a moment's notice.

Remember the discussion a few months back by some people here who believed nothing was going to come of the Horowitz investigation, that the crimes of the Obama administration were getting swept under the rug, because of reports that Huber had not interviewed key witnesses?

Maybe you can help me remember the discussion with a timeline.

Was there a discussion about nothing being done shortly before something finally got done? (Assuming anything got done)

Who said what?

What I really need help with, if I am going to assemble a timeline for comparison, is a link to whatever the source document is of the quote being used in your 8:21.

Thanks, Tom.

Tom Bowler

Henry,

The state Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal of a Dane County judge’s ruling that invalidated all of the Legislature’s actions in a December extraordinary session.

What an amazing story. It's like the progressives' dream come true, where a properly enlightened judge can cancel unacceptable legislation en masse. Was there even any need to consider what was actually in the invalidated legislation? It's exactly what Democrats want from their judicial appointees: judges who see the law as the obstacle in a game that they have to win by interpreting their way around it.

What a crazy time we've been living through.

Hmmm! On Friday, they sentenced the head lady jihadi to 8 years in a French prison for ISIS recruiting. She was also the ringleader of the All-Girl ISIS band that tried to blow up Notre Dame in 2016.

Then on Monday, we have Notre Dame almost burn down to a heap of ashes.

Coincidence?

Tom Bowler, we've been living that progressive dream come true since Act 10, early 2010. When the WI SC is done kicking the progs to the curb, they run it up the Fed judiciary.Minor things like legislative districts or justice for John Doe victims wait until Federal Judges get around to it... maybe by the next millennium.

Make fun of that post and extrapolate from that just how wrong that person was and just how smart the winner of the contest is in comparison.

Repeat as often as you like. Be sure to post your work.

:-)

Jack is Back!

Jane,

Don't worry, I know that about zig-zagging but this guy was out for a stroll not for terrorizing anyone:)

Another time on our Creek course on the wetlands off the ICW, I hit my approach long on #13 and when I walked back to find it to chip it on the green, there was "Buster", our largest 'Gator on the course, in a 'Gator Hole resting. Had to take an X on that hole.

I have neither the time nor the interest in trying to find the threads where the pessismists were discussing the reports that Huber wasn’t interviewing key witnesses. Miss Marple:

No lead spoke aligns with the center, which gives the North Rose a hypnotic sense of movement. Like a wheel about to turn in front of you.
This intrigued me too. In an article about the Rose Window Survivals, I read that the South Rose was repaired multiple times over the centuries, the last and most significant "restoration" by the famous Viollet-le-Duc:
Changes were made. “In the face of the pronounced slump of the masonry, he completely resumed the facade of the southern cross and rotated the rosette by 15 ° to give it a vertical axis and a horizontal axis, consolidating the stone lace,” the website says. “The master glassmaker Alfred Gérente restored the stained glass windows of the 13th century and reconstructed the medallions missing in the spirit of authenticity of the whole.”
I have to wonder if V-l-D rotated the rose for aesthetic or structural purposes. Was it just easier to place that way? It's not as though the main axes are continuous from edge to edge; they all stop at the central medallion and resume on the other side. I was curious as to the effect, so I rotated the north window in photoshop (per my little yellow arrows). At this size, the effect is not terribly strong, and the original was a little distorted, which doesn't help, but having done it, I thought I might as well "show my work." Original is on the left.

I don't think Trump pulled off a successful deception campaign.

I do think Trump has been and is an admirable fighter and leader, as well as an inspiration in how to confront and defeat lying, corrupt, vicious, vile, slanderous and bullying opponents.

MissMarple2

Tom R.,

I am still out on the question of deception with Mueller et al. but I will absolutely credit him with creating a public image that has fooled the lefties and the press, as well as the never Trumpers.

Anyone who went back and watched his interviews with Oprah, Dr. Oz, Charlie Rose, etc. would have seen a very smart and thoughtful man, who spent a lot of time thinking about what was wrong with the country and the economy.

His blustering speeches and tweets are a disguise. He doesn't act that way when he is greeting heads of state or talking to people being honored at the White House.

So THAT was a great deception. I remain hopeful for the rest.

That information about 100 people interviewed came from John Solomon. Sara Carter and Mark Meadows were also on the Hannity segment. All three are asserting that indictments are coming. Horowitz as an Inspector General has no authority to indict anyone. We assume it’s Huber because Sessions explicitly said Huber was assigned to work with Horowitz. Personally it doesn’t matter to me if it’s Huber or some other US Attorney who brings the indictments as long as justice is served.

Hopefully all of the pessimists here who believed nothing would come of the Horowitz investigation should be feeling more optimistic.

JM Hanes

Another Bob:

"I’ve read that the old tall oak trees needed to replace the beams simply don’t exist anymore."

I bet Russia's got some. I suspect that even if modern craftsmen knew how to handle them, the process of curing and shaping would simply take too long to suit modern sensibilities. I remember visiting a cathedral (or VERY large church) somewhere in England where the oak trusses are actually what saved the church from a big fire. Even though they had aged over centuries, they were still so dense that they only charred on the outside.

Beasts of England

Tom R: I think most people here would love to find out that Huber and Horowitz are doing the right thing and helping to drain the Swamp. But, after being promised to control the purse strings after retaking the House and standing up to Obama after retaking the Senate, neither of those happened. Oh, and then while having both chambers and the presidency, they allowed Trump to be the subjected to a witch hunt which helped lose the House and stall his agenda. Maybe that helps to understand the skepticism...

Sounds like you are commenting on the failures of Paul Ryan and the GOP Establishment/Swamp. No argument from me on their worthlessness.

The point I am focusing on is Trump’s deception campaign that is part of his overall strategy to drain the Swamp as well as hold the Obama criminal cabal accountable for their crimes.

Trump’s constant complaints that he was the victim of a “witch hunt” was an integral part of the deception campaign. The fact Mueller exonerated him of colluding with the Russians should have been enough evidence for people to come to the realization Mueller wasn’t on a witch hunt otherwise the findings would have pointed to some form of collusion. This would have required some level of corruption on Mueller’s part to fabricate evidence that did not exist to support the Democrats false narrative.
