Jack is Back!

Does anyone besides me think this Dem primary is another version of Hollywood Squares?

Old Lurker

That too, Jack. The KY branch did coal mines in WV, and Dad's branch did chemical companies in the Kanawha Valley post WWI. So I spent Gr 6-12 in Charleston. Mom spent the war years at the farm, commuting to your alma mater to get her masters in Aeronautical Engineering, and then to Goodyear until Dad came hold and had us kids.

Remember the story I told about Mom: "That's MY wheel!" when I took her to Dulles to see the Enola Gay at the Air & Space Museum?

Buckeye

Porchlight,

You would love the Lexington area, and there is NO way it is anyway Libtard like Austin.

They just don't tolerate much of that in KY:)

Kinda like West By God in that respect.

Old Lurker

"JOM is a small world, fdcol63."

And judging by just today, some of us are probably cousins even if the Family Bibles don't document the details. Thank God.

Captain Hate

This is great!

CH, Southern Comfort is blended on the banks of the Mississippi in St Louis. Always considered it our revenge on the rest of the world.

Narciso79

So supervillain Christopher hasson was released on bail,

Extraneus

Count me in the Southern Comfort disgust club. All it took was one bad night, long long ago.

MissMarple2

I ran out to the store eto get a few things, and the afternoon guys were making fun of Biden.

His campaign manager is a black gal who is on tape saying that they need minorities in charge of the party and no more old white guys!

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

OL: "the guy in the street just remembers all those doctors in white coats in the Rose Garden cheering Obama on."

Weren't those just staffers and guests? They brought a bunch of white coats and invited the people in the audience to put them on.
At least, that's what I remember

Old Lurker

I think you are right, Jim. But it worked.

Porchlight

After petting one and moving on to the next, Mom casually said "That was Secretariat...when you get older you will know how special that was."

Holy cow. Really? I'm in awe.

I know that if you told that story before, I didn't see it. I would remember. I was four in 1973, so Secretariat has always been immense in my mind.

Old Lurker

Every word was true, Porch.

JM Hanes

Is there anyone who hasn't had at least one bad night with bourbon?

Porchlight

I will just put this out there.

If you've run out of nice things to drink and there is a dusty bottle of Southern Comfort on the top of the fridge and you just happen to have a few lemons and limes around, a Southern Comfort sour with plenty of ice (and no extra sugar added, since the stuff is already sweet) is not that awful.

Buckeye

OL

The Secretariat story is special.

The same US Senator cousin I mentioned, Mrs. Buckeye's grandmother and John Galbreath were lifelong friends. Adjacent farms as kids, went to Ohio State at the same time, and the guys were best buds as adults.

John kept horses both in the Columbus area and Darby Dan farms in the Lexington area.

Mrs. Buckeye spent several Sundays checking out the stables here as a little girl. Not far from her childhood home. Grandma would take her and her sister.

She said the stable hands treated them very well, let them feed and brush the horses and pretty much get the full experience.

Old Lurker

I threw up a little in my mouth just reading that 5:12 Porch.

Melinda

((Waves!!))

Porchlight

It's not that I don't believe you, OL, just that it's so exciting.

BTW I just ordered some real Ky country ham, so once I get some more bourbon, I am fully prepared for Derby.

Extraneus

Weren't those just staffers and guests?

How about the doctors in Madison, WI, who were handing out sick notes to the protesters so they could take the day off? Btw, were any of them disciplined by the AMA?

Melinda

*Everything else, just not bourbon.

Porchlight

You gotta be creative, OL, when you have small kids and can't just dash out to the liquor store. :)

My kids are big now, though, thankfully.

Old Lurker

Buckeye "John Galbreath"

Now there is a giant from that corner of the world.

Porchlight

Buckeye, good to know about Lexington, thanks. Mr Porch said he didn't talk politics with his friend in Lexington, but he got the impression he and his buddies were pretty conservative. They in turn probably assumed the band were all lefties, which is true, except Mr Porch.

JM Hanes

Porchlight:

It seems like you having babies just yesterday!

Porchlight

The baby just turned nine a couple of weeks ago, JMH! He's heading off to camp for four weeks in June up in Minnesota. I will send away a boy and get back a little man. *Sniff*

Old Lurker

But Porch. It should be illegal even to possess a bottle of SC. The Man could take your kids away from you if you got caught.

Beasts of England

The worst hangover I've had in the last ten years was from drinking Woodford Reserve (St. Regis, Atlanta - private barrel). It was, however, marvelous. Thankfully I was traveling with a young nursing student who helped assuage my hangover. And yes, that was a humblebrag. :)

Buckeye

OL

Mrs. Buckeye remembers him sitting in the kitchen of her Grandma's modest house drinking coffee and chatting. He and Grandma would have been well into their 70s or 80s.

Rumor has it they went on a date or two in high school.

Porchlight

It's well-hidden, OL, behind the lunchboxes.

Gentlejim

JiB,
I’d forgotten you’re solo for now. That would make it a challenge.

I also have a seat on the bad night on SoCo express. I may have even had a monthly pass.

Joe Biden had 28 years to call Anita Hill and only decided to call her a few weeks ago to smooth over for his Presidential bid. The man is a sleazeball. I don’t personally care about the whole Anita Hill debacle and support Clarence Thomas, but let’s play on this to divide Dems!
========================

Exactly right. For someone who opened his campaign with a lie about President Trump being a racist, I have no scruplesabout stirring up trouble for Biden. And really, to only call her a couple of weeks ago? Pretty shabby, if you ask me. (I didn't believe her, but that's beside the point.)

MissMarple2

Extraneus,

It seems to me that the EU is really only good for the Germans and maybe Belgium.

The French have always been proud of their national identity and I think you are exactly right.

James D.

MM @ 5:43

Is there anything about Biden that ISN’T shabby?

Porchlight

What was Biden supposed to apologize to Anita Hill about? That Thomas was confirmed?

She walked into that with eyes wide open. It was rehearsed, for goodness sake. She is where she is today because of her testimony, and everyone knows it.

These people are so mendacious, every last one of them.

Extraneus

Has Romney endorsed Biden yet?

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

"How about the doctors in Madison, WI, who were handing out sick notes to the protesters so they could take the day off? Btw, were any of them disciplined by the AMA?"

Yes, some doctors side with dot Gov now. I took one of our kids in to Urgent Care once and the doctor started asking about guns in the house out of nowhere for no reason.

Extraneus

Due to Grassley's reluctance, Blasey Ford will be like St. Anita 30 years from now. Both liars who should have been fully slimed.

Extraneus

It's not for no reason, Jim. They apparently have a checklist of required questions and that's on it. I tell them, "None of your business," and they back off immediately.

Gentlejim

Jim,Sunnyvale,
Those questions popped up years ago at my doc. I told them I’d only answer questions directly related to my health and they could stuff the other questions where the sun don’t shine. They haven’t been asked again. I imagine my permanent record reflects that I’m a touch uncooperative.

Gentlejim

I forgot to add that schools are also asking about firearms in the household. I believe those questions are holdovers from the 404 era.

Buckeye

That is a question I never felt bad about telling an untruth.

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

Not all doctors ask about guns. In my experience most do not. I assume the ones who do are pro-Dem and favor big Gov't

Jack is Back!

The one Doc who asked that of me when giving Frederick his exam was told to mind his medicine, not my personal proclivities. He was young and hammered and yawed until I told him that "you have a weird set of questions for a kid who needs a physical". His response, "I need to know". My response, "No you don't and you won't now just get on with the physical."

He did and in the end, apologized. I asked him if he carried. It was like asking an Owl if he was silent at night.

henry

Guns at home? Here in rural WI they quit asking that one. Now they do the “are you depressed?” questions at each visit. Are you a nurse or shrink? Just tell me to exercise more often, eat more vegetables, and cut down on fats (I did say rural WI) and let me out of this dump.

Jane

How do you throw 4 strikeouts in one inning?

Porchlight

I tell them, "None of your business," and they back off immediately.

And then they mark "yes" on the form. :)

Seriously, I just lie and say no.

henry

Jane, first you randomize the batters’ eyeglasses, then your catcher has to drop a strike three and not throw the batter out at first (for one of the first 3 batters that inning).

Jack is Back!

Jane,

Happens a lot.

You throw a strike 3 but its a wild pitch or missed catch by the Catcher. Runner advances to first base. Next guy up is struck out. 4 SO's. Happened a number of times.

WHOA! Professor Althouse and I are on the same page---and is SHE EVER PISSED!
Her cruel neutrality is all gone today--in its place, oh so righteous anger.
She is more articulate than I, and she is spot on:

How dare Biden rest his campaign on a blatant lie — a lie that has been used to stir up fear and racial discord?! The hypocrisy of offering to bring us together and embrace lofty values when he is either repulsively ignorant or just plain lying!

I could not finish watching that video. I tried, but I couldn't force myself. It's utterly toxic bilge.

If Biden does not come forward and retract this video and apologize and commit himself to making amends, I consider him disqualified. He does not have the character or brain power to be President.

“Lots of hello in those.”

Gotta remember that line Henry. I like it.

MissMarple2

My son's girlfriend is A-OK. I wasn't sure about her because she is an elementary teacher, but tonight she asked me if I was going to see Trump downtown. I told her no, I would if I could, but parking is going to be bad and I cannot walk up to the nosebleed section at Lucas Oil Stadium due to my knees.

I told her I had gone to see the one here in the fall with one of my sisters, and how great it was. She said she has been a fan of his even before he ran for president, and she thinks he's great. YAY!

So we got to talking about all that is going on, and I told her about FBI 302's and how those are the ONLY records of witness interviews and that they are done afterwards from the agent's memory and impressions, and boy was she shocked!

Then she remembered that we NEVER see any videos of agents interviewing witnesses or suspects with the FBI, and she thought it was BS as well.

Hardly anyone knows this is the procedure, so I suggest telling everyone about it. Even liberals will find that a bogus way to operate.

DEVELOPING: It is now looking as though there is more evidence that Obama had a heavier hand in interfering in the 2016 election than Putin

Extraneus

I always write none of the government's business on the form.

I told my tale about resisting the American Community Survey before, but that was probably almost 10 years ago (!).

Almost none of the questions were valid government business. They hounded me on a land line, threatened me with legal action if I didn't fill it out, until I spoke to one guy and told him I thought it was an unconstitutional invasion of my privacy.

He asked if he could ask me a few of the questions and promised he'd record my answers verbatim. I said ok and he ended up getting almost all "None of your business" answers. I don't know how he abbreviated that in his system, but that was the end of it.

I hope I'm not singled out again this time, 'cause I'm a lot less cooperative now than I was 10 years ago.

Buckeye

Catherine Herridge:

Strzok-Page texts suggested using post-election briefing to gather information on Trump team

Text messages between former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page indicate they discussed using briefings to the Trump team after the 2016 election to identify people they could "develop for potential relationships," track lines of questioning and "assess" changes in "demeanor" – language one GOP lawmaker called “more evidence” of irregular conduct in the original Russia probe.

Fox News has learned the texts, initially released in 2018 by a Senate committee, are under renewed scrutiny by congressional investigators reviewing the genesis of the FBI's counter-intelligence probe that was opened in late July 2016 by then-agent Strzok.

It was not clear from the messages whether Strzok and Page merely sought to build bridges with the incoming administration, or wanted to engineer the briefings to investigate Trump and his associates.

“This is yet more evidence that the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation was filled with irregularities," Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said. "The more we discover about the true origins of the investigation, the more abnormal it appears in every conceivable way.”

Late Thursday, citing the same text messages and other incidents, GOP Sens. Chuck Grassley and Homeland Security Committee chair Ron Johnson sent a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr inquiring about the DOJ's review of "FBI surveillance of the Trump campaign," and seeking more information on the transition counter-intelligence briefings as well as media leaks.

"Were these efforts done to gain better communication between the respective parties, or were the briefings used as intelligence gathering operations?" Grassley, R-Iowa, and Johnson, R-Wis., wrote. "Further, did any such surveillance activities continue beyond the inauguration, and in the event they did, were those activities subject to proper predication?"

It's just me here. Hard to hold her and do the procedure.

This is what I've done in the past. Try putting her on a table that has some nearby spot to leash her (Like a sturdy light fixture or ceiling hook. Picture something like a groomer's table set up. I would hang the fluid bag from the same place.

Then, use high quality treats to distract her and keep her still. Something she normally doesn't get (I use rotisserie chicken or good luncheon meat pieces.)

Once you get the needle inserted, you can just hold her still until you've got enough fluid under the skin. Good luck~
