That too, Jack. The KY branch did coal mines in WV, and Dad's branch did chemical companies in the Kanawha Valley post WWI. So I spent Gr 6-12 in Charleston. Mom spent the war years at the farm, commuting to your alma mater to get her masters in Aeronautical Engineering, and then to Goodyear until Dad came hold and had us kids.

Joe Biden had 28 years to call Anita Hill and only decided to call her a few weeks ago to smooth over for his Presidential bid. The man is a sleazeball. I don’t personally care about the whole Anita Hill debacle and support Clarence Thomas, but let’s play on this to divide Dems!
========================
Exactly right. For someone who opened his campaign with a lie about President Trump being a racist, I have no scruplesabout stirring up trouble for Biden. And really, to only call her a couple of weeks ago? Pretty shabby, if you ask me. (I didn't believe her, but that's beside the point.)
What was Biden supposed to apologize to Anita Hill about? That Thomas was confirmed?
She walked into that with eyes wide open. It was rehearsed, for goodness sake. She is where she is today because of her testimony, and everyone knows it.
These people are so mendacious, every last one of them.
"How about the doctors in Madison, WI, who were handing out sick notes to the protesters so they could take the day off? Btw, were any of them disciplined by the AMA?"
Yes, some doctors side with dot Gov now. I took one of our kids in to Urgent Care once and the doctor started asking about guns in the house out of nowhere for no reason.
It's not for no reason, Jim. They apparently have a checklist of required questions and that's on it. I tell them, "None of your business," and they back off immediately.
Jim,Sunnyvale,
Those questions popped up years ago at my doc. I told them I’d only answer questions directly related to my health and they could stuff the other questions where the sun don’t shine. They haven’t been asked again. I imagine my permanent record reflects that I’m a touch uncooperative.
The one Doc who asked that of me when giving Frederick his exam was told to mind his medicine, not my personal proclivities. He was young and hammered and yawed until I told him that "you have a weird set of questions for a kid who needs a physical". His response, "I need to know". My response, "No you don't and you won't now just get on with the physical."
He did and in the end, apologized. I asked him if he carried. It was like asking an Owl if he was silent at night.
Guns at home? Here in rural WI they quit asking that one. Now they do the “are you depressed?” questions at each visit. Are you a nurse or shrink? Just tell me to exercise more often, eat more vegetables, and cut down on fats (I did say rural WI) and let me out of this dump.
Jane, first you randomize the batters’ eyeglasses, then your catcher has to drop a strike three and not throw the batter out at first (for one of the first 3 batters that inning).
You throw a strike 3 but its a wild pitch or missed catch by the Catcher. Runner advances to first base. Next guy up is struck out. 4 SO's. Happened a number of times.
JiB, I wasn’t counting the carry piece. Just the several scary black devices, plus fine woodwork devices In the safe at home list in a tragic canoe accident far from home.
I only have my dad's 30.06 he used to accidentally kill a moose in Newfoundland. And the training weapon he brought back from Germany in WW2. It's a small .22. Never fired it but I may let Frederick after we clean it up.
But if that piece had a load in it, I would not want to be an intruder to face it..

WHOA! Professor Althouse and I are on the same page---and is SHE EVER PISSED!
Her cruel neutrality is all gone today--in its place, oh so righteous anger.
She is more articulate than I, and she is spot on:
How dare Biden rest his campaign on a blatant lie — a lie that has been used to stir up fear and racial discord?! The hypocrisy of offering to bring us together and embrace lofty values when he is either repulsively ignorant or just plain lying!
I could not finish watching that video. I tried, but I couldn't force myself. It's utterly toxic bilge.
If Biden does not come forward and retract this video and apologize and commit himself to making amends, I consider him disqualified. He does not have the character or brain power to be President.
JiB, I have a piece of wood in 30-06, lever action. Lots of hello in those. Another piece of would is a semiautomatic 22LR. Fine for plinking and varmints. A fine trap gun made in Italy, a 870 Rem, and a semiauto duck smacker all in 12g. Plus the scary black ones (308). A chair trap for clay fun, zombies for self defense, spinners for plinking, and bowling pins for the reach out and touch (500+ yards). Then there is the artillery (trebuchet and friends). All modern (post 1980).
I did have a census person show up on my doorstep to do the long form in person. 2000 census. Almost ran out of beer before the govt finished. I never got an answer on how that squared with the 4th and 5th Amendments.
My son's girlfriend is A-OK. I wasn't sure about her because she is an elementary teacher, but tonight she asked me if I was going to see Trump downtown. I told her no, I would if I could, but parking is going to be bad and I cannot walk up to the nosebleed section at Lucas Oil Stadium due to my knees.
I told her I had gone to see the one here in the fall with one of my sisters, and how great it was. She said she has been a fan of his even before he ran for president, and she thinks he's great. YAY!
So we got to talking about all that is going on, and I told her about FBI 302's and how those are the ONLY records of witness interviews and that they are done afterwards from the agent's memory and impressions, and boy was she shocked!
Then she remembered that we NEVER see any videos of agents interviewing witnesses or suspects with the FBI, and she thought it was BS as well.
Hardly anyone knows this is the procedure, so I suggest telling everyone about it. Even liberals will find that a bogus way to operate.
I always write none of the government's business on the form.
I told my tale about resisting the American Community Survey before, but that was probably almost 10 years ago (!).
Almost none of the questions were valid government business. They hounded me on a land line, threatened me with legal action if I didn't fill it out, until I spoke to one guy and told him I thought it was an unconstitutional invasion of my privacy.
He asked if he could ask me a few of the questions and promised he'd record my answers verbatim. I said ok and he ended up getting almost all "None of your business" answers. I don't know how he abbreviated that in his system, but that was the end of it.
I hope I'm not singled out again this time, 'cause I'm a lot less cooperative now than I was 10 years ago.
Text messages between former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page indicate they discussed using briefings to the Trump team after the 2016 election to identify people they could "develop for potential relationships," track lines of questioning and "assess" changes in "demeanor" – language one GOP lawmaker called “more evidence” of irregular conduct in the original Russia probe.
Fox News has learned the texts, initially released in 2018 by a Senate committee, are under renewed scrutiny by congressional investigators reviewing the genesis of the FBI's counter-intelligence probe that was opened in late July 2016 by then-agent Strzok.
It was not clear from the messages whether Strzok and Page merely sought to build bridges with the incoming administration, or wanted to engineer the briefings to investigate Trump and his associates.
“This is yet more evidence that the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation was filled with irregularities," Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said. "The more we discover about the true origins of the investigation, the more abnormal it appears in every conceivable way.”
Late Thursday, citing the same text messages and other incidents, GOP Sens. Chuck Grassley and Homeland Security Committee chair Ron Johnson sent a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr inquiring about the DOJ's review of "FBI surveillance of the Trump campaign," and seeking more information on the transition counter-intelligence briefings as well as media leaks.
"Were these efforts done to gain better communication between the respective parties, or were the briefings used as intelligence gathering operations?" Grassley, R-Iowa, and Johnson, R-Wis., wrote. "Further, did any such surveillance activities continue beyond the inauguration, and in the event they did, were those activities subject to proper predication?"
JIB -
It's just me here. Hard to hold her and do the procedure.
This is what I've done in the past. Try putting her on a table that has some nearby spot to leash her (Like a sturdy light fixture or ceiling hook. Picture something like a groomer's table set up. I would hang the fluid bag from the same place.
Then, use high quality treats to distract her and keep her still. Something she normally doesn't get (I use rotisserie chicken or good luncheon meat pieces.)
Once you get the needle inserted, you can just hold her still until you've got enough fluid under the skin. Good luck~
I'm a nerdy introvert so I'm rarely bored, Another Bob, but it's an off night! lol

Sad to report that I don't own a bass at the moment, Extraneus - even though it was my instrument in bands and in the studio. Glad you're enjoying it - there's a lot more to it than first glance!
I saw a poll somewhere with results like the one Porch posted w. Trump at 38% -- might even be the same one. When I looked at the breakdown of respondents, the poll included something like 250 Republicans, 369 Democrats and an even higher number of Independents. The last figure was the one that struck me, even though I can't recall it precisely. I suspect there are a lot of Trump voters hiding in the Independent number!
I've always thought people don't get bored because they have nothing to do. They just don't want to do anything because they are bored to start with. In any case, here's a little antiquarian guessing game for distraction.
Those sample biases will only get worse as we move into 2020, JM Hanes. If Trump leads in a single poll I'll be stunned. He has no path to 270 - it's gonna be an early night!! ;)

Father Hate used to drink that Cutty Sark swill for whatever reason. I don't even think they should call it scotch.

I did have a census person show up on my doorstep to do the long form in person. 2000 census. Almost ran out of beer before the govt finished. I never got an answer on how that squared with the 4th and 5th Amendments.

“Lots of hello in those.”
Gotta remember that line Henry. I like it.

I have several newish shotguns, but also one that dates to the late 1890s. Family hand-me-down.
It is fired on occasion, but only with a light target load shell.
No it isn't worth anything, they made hundreds of thousands of them.

JIB -
It's just me here.
Good luck~

He has no path to 270 - it's gonna be an early night!! ;)
