You'd think such a sooper jeanyus tax expert would be more than a civil service mutt
Mr Trump is a billionaire, and the Infernal Revenue Service scrutinizes, and frequently audits, the returns of billionaires. Do you believe that the IRS under Barack Hussein Obama didn’t look very carefully at Mr Trump’s tax returns once he declared himself to be a candidate?
Billionaires don’t just file with TurboTax, but have accountants, plural, doing their returns; do you believe that professional accountants, some of who are CPAs, are going to file anything that is criminal? That will cost them their licences, and might get them thrown in jail as well.
I can’t overstate how unpersuasive I find this argument, but since it recurs over and over in the comments, I will devote a post later to trashing the premise.
The Boards of Directors of the Fed Banks do mainly have an outside advisory role, but they get briefed on what's going on with monetary policy, and are knowledgeable about the economy. Hell, Turbotax Timmy Geithner was not an economist but ended up as President of the NY Fed and then Treasury Secretary. Meanwhile all the monetary policy experts on the Fed Board in Washington largely engage in Keynesian groupthink, so it's fine to have someone there who comes from a different background.

T. Becket Adams@BecketAdams i doubt it. people have short memories. there's a reason we don't call toobin the "married man who knocked up a former colleague's daughter and had to be taken to court to pay child support."
That is a fascinating memory. Do you think it started with the Clintons, or before?
Posted by: Jane | April 08, 2019 at 05:55 PM
Sorry I missed this one, Jane. I went off for supper then never got back.
I think the blatant, in-your-face corruption started with the Clintons and was expanded and extended by Obama. Before the Clintons came along, people who were caught in a scandal often resigned. Not the Clintons, Never the Clintons. They had that strategy of first "Deny, deny, deny" and then if the scandal didn't die down, they'd claim it was old news and time to move on.
Obama had a slightly different style. He just said, "There's not a smidgen of corruption," and the media dutifully dropped it.
It was the Clintons who changed the rules, aided by the failed impeachment, which in my opinion was invited by their in-your-face corruption. Anyway, once the impeachment threat was gone the Clintons were bullet proof. Similarly, Obama's race made him bullet proof. Or maybe he didn't need to be because the press would take the bullets for him. They loved him so.
On the flipside of that coin, the Democrats routinely resorted to character assassination. Republicans usually had the stronger argument on issues. The Democrats would counter by charging Republicans with greed, racism, sexism, you name it, and therefore Republican arguments are invalid. But that was the extend of it, trying to win the public debate.
When Gore lost the election in 2000, Democrat vitriol went through the roof. They weren't trying to win arguments on issues, they were convincing their base that Republicans are evil and the country must be saved from them. When Obama got elected there was something of an abatement. All was right in the Democrat world so they could afford to be less nasty. Now look at them! Holy shit, are they ever deranged!
JMH: "I can't believe I've lived to see the day when Nancy Pelosi supposedly represents the moderates in the Democratic party."

So what's happening?
1) American voters are drifting left and Dem officeholders keeping with them
Or
2) American voters are voting based on inertia but will gradually awake leaving the Dem Party wrecked for an extended period. Especially if Black Americans shift away.
I've been thinking - often a dangerous thing, but...
What do more established illegal immigrants think of the new wave of immigrants?
Do they sympathize with them for going through the same thing as they did?
Or is it more likely that they feel worried that a crackdown will snare them up also?
If we can't effectively police the border and have to rely on internal enforcement to find all the people that never showed up for their hearings we are going to catch up with other people who weren't on our original search lists.
This is like Deja Vu all over again except the mom wasn't trying to buy drugs at eight in the morning with all her kids in the car and the shooter is closer to white than George Zimmerman:
Dharquintium and Taniesha Brown had just picked up their daughters Summer Bell and her sister Autumn at the Boys and Girls Club and were returning home around 5:30 p.m. when Summer Bell’s father cut Gonzalez off in traffic. He suddenly noticed Gonzalez tailing the family car closely. “(Gonzalez) decided to ride my bumper so I pressed the brake so he could back up off my bumper,” Dharquintium Brown recalled. This led to Gonzalez following the Brown’s back to their home, where he pulled up behind their car in the driveway.
Dharquintium Brown got out of the car to confront Gonzalez, who began to fire his gun. “(Gonzalez) was ready to start shooting. I got out of my vehicle and I asked him ‘What’s up?’ and he got to firing,” he explained.
I'm thinking I need to steer clear of Waffle House for a while:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman wanted for a 2017 murder was arrested Saturday morning while naked and waving a gun inside of a busy South Nashville restaurant, Metro police say.
Montessa Tate-Thornton, 19, was taken into custody at the Waffle House on Harding Place near I-24 on charges including public indecency and public intoxication.
Police said they responded to a report of a naked man and woman with a weapon inside of the business.
When officers arrived, they said they observed Tate-Thornton wearing no clothing inside the Waffle House, which was open for business, and waving around a gun while acting erratically.

The World Trade Organization finds that the European Union subsidies to Airbus has adversely impacted the United States, which will now put Tariffs on $11 Billion of EU products! The EU has taken advantage of the U.S. on trade for many years. It will soon stop!
It was my perception at the time that Obama, for a while, at least made a pretense of bipartisanship, and the media campaign against Republicans let up for a bit. But your point is well taken, James. When you get right down to it, Obama considered Republicans the enemy whose faces need to be gotten into, and who needed to be punished while friends were rewarded.
So if there was an abatement, it would only have lasted only until the first tea party march in Washington. Since then the Republicans-are-evil campaign just kept getting worse. Now with Trump's election we're not just racists, we're white supremacists! We're so despicable we drove Jussie Smollett to the point of faking his own lynching.
"I'm serious. I'm coming to clean up all of the mess. So, if you're out there and you lied and you defamed, we're going to come after you." – @DevinNunes
Appearing with @seanhannity, Nunes says he's coming after liars and journalists over everything to do with collusion.
James, prosecutor's offices throughout the country are underlying reasons why the cities are such cesspools of corruption. Put politically ambitious people in positions to say thumbs up or down on what gets prosecuted and what gets covered up; what could go wrong? The so called free press is supposed to keep this in check but since they're part of the problem...
Case in point, Stephanie Tubbs Jones was the county prosecutor when the Ohio Highway Patrol gave her a gift wrapped case of how one of Louis Stokes's daughters or nieces was shaking down inner city merchants, mostly from the Middle East, for cuts of their lottery tickets. I'm sure they had security camera footage proving it but the case was dropped instantly, surely with a quick phone call to the guilty to cut the shit. The sleepy Plain Dealer never mentioned it; the only way I found out about it was an extensive, and very well written, article in the local alternative press.
When Louis Stokes stepped down from his congressional gig, guess who his chosen replacement was? She used to show up and press the flesh at a local Greek festival to pretend to care about white people; when she'd get within ten yards of me I'd flash her a "don't waste your time" glance which she read very well.
This is what Patterico's part of. Whether he's too fucking dumb or mentally ill to understand that is anyone's guess but I don't think so.
The $150 million defamation lawsuit Nunes dropped last night is worth watching. He has a big hill to climb to prove defamation since he is a public figure but discovery should be interesting.
And if the process is the penalty as is said here about targets like Flynn this process is going to be enormously painful to the media.

American military personnel helped move about 600 tons of uranium in the form called yellowcake. It had been stored at Tuwaitha, an installation south of Baghdad that had been the site of Iraq's nuclear program.
Cameco, a Canadian company that produces uranium and sells it around the world, bought the material, according to foreign officials knowledgeable about the transaction.
"The Iraqi government requested our help; we helped them," said Leslie Phillips, a spokeswoman for the American Embassy in Baghdad. "It was their decision and we were happy to assist, at their request. This is a good example of Iraqis working with international companies to get done what they want to get done."

When was this abatement, exactly?
There wasn't one; the MFM just created one out of whole cloth just like the wonderfulness of the Bathhouse Rat era; or "Camelot", another false edifice created to shill for Saint JFK. Meanwhile even though the libs controlled everything they were still pissed off 24/7 for whatever reason, probably because they're very unhappy people.

The idea that Patterico is still a public employee with the power to prosecute and imprison his fellow citizens is horrifying beyond words.

The World Trade Organization finds that the European Union subsidies to Airbus has adversely impacted the United States, which will now put Tariffs on $11 Billion of EU products! The EU has taken advantage of the U.S. on trade for many years. It will soon stop!

I'll bet a training exercise. Which pilots can fly the prescribed pattern accurately.

I’d like to understand why JackStraw thinks that CH.
They’ll get support - financial and otherwise - from the usual suspects and their employers. Their colleagues won’t report it honestly - if at all. Why trust the judges? And anyone who has a judgement rendered against them will be turned into a First Amendment Martyr (TM).
It’s one of the reasons there’s a Ledge ;)

True, Narciso.
excerpt:
American military personnel helped move about 600 tons of uranium in the form called yellowcake. It had been stored at Tuwaitha, an installation south of Baghdad that had been the site of Iraq's nuclear program.
Cameco, a Canadian company that produces uranium and sells it around the world, bought the material, according to foreign officials knowledgeable about the transaction.
"The Iraqi government requested our help; we helped them," said Leslie Phillips, a spokeswoman for the American Embassy in Baghdad. "It was their decision and we were happy to assist, at their request. This is a good example of Iraqis working with international companies to get done what they want to get done."
https://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/07/world/africa/07iht-iraq.4.14301928.html
But, the Iraq campaign was never about the WMD (or precursor materials)....
WMD was/WAS the leading 'casus belli'
when the campaign concept was circulated in the inter-agency arena.
That is, more of 43's agency heads could agree on, could support WMD than any other of about a dozen justifications for going in.
