The WaPo puzzles over the popularity of Mayor Pete, now third in polling behind Biden and Sanders; Ann Althouse summarizes.
My take: Democrats always pine for the next JFK. They want a candidate who is young, charismatic, smart, and unburdened by a legacy of policy decisions that might antagonize one faction or another. The attractive blank slate! Past players in this role include Gary Hart, Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, John Edwards, and of course Barack Obama. (John Kerry sort of fits the template as well. As the war hero who turned war against the war and did nothing thereafter, Kerry induced a 60's flashback that made everyone else feel young again, so he had that going for him.)
What I find more interesting is whether Mayor Pete and Beto can survive each other's presence in the same lane.
Two down, one to go, JiB. Hopping for a beagle trifecta.

If you are a Mom & Pop shop or even a Walmart in Dallas you should be livid at the DA decision. Walmart has a loss prevention division and their own cops but Mom & Pop don't. Devastating for them. I am surprised the local CoC isn't in the forefront here, not the LEO community.

I am going to see what my daughter thinks we need.

Right! How could I forget about Dukakis, Henry! Especially with that memorable tank turret shot which probably was the thing the did him in.
I suppose Kerry might qualify as a blank slate, considering that his crowning achievement over a lifetime in politics was getting James Taylor to sing "You've Got a Friend" to the French. His slate was retroactively blanked.
God almighty, Massachusetts can really turn 'em out!

Jane, Swarthmore was Hicksite Quaker from the get go. Always coed. Both my parents were there when Dukakis was. Carl Levin was in my dad’s class as well. Bryn Mawr (paired with Haverford for men) was the Orthodox Quaker women’s college until going coed in the 70s.

Hang in there, Jack—Jazz will be back. Are the dogs chipped?
I’ve been agreeing with many here, and in this particular case I also include Sundance who is so often cited here by MM, that Mueller was a straight shooter in some senses but that he was also going to do absolutely everything he could do that was still “on the books” to get Trump to do something that could be colorable as obstruction. It was like a bullfight, with the multitudinous figures as picadors, and Mueller as the matador. But no matter what they did (solitary confinement for Manafort, Roger Stone’s dawn arrest, raiding Cohen’s office), Trump would never really charge. He was like Ferdinand in the 1938 children’s story, who being the brawniest of the young bulls is brought to Madrid to the bull ring, where he refuses to fight, instead sitting in the middle of the ring and “smelling all the flowers in the lovely ladies’ hair.” I loved this story as a child, and wasn’t pleased as an adult to learn it was all meant as a pacifist allegory on the Spanish Civil War. That said, Trump couldn’t be goaded, and so they all had to go home (“and the matador cried because he couldn’t show off his fine cape and his fine sword”).

Jack, I turned my fence up to the max when I first installed it, and my German Shepherd only had to feel it once and never went over the line again, even when it wasn't connected. She'd chase deer right up to the edge and stop on a dime, and she hates deer.
If your dogs can handle the max shock and still dare to cross the line, I don't see how an electric fence can work.

The funny thing was that the race was on Saturday, and when the other 3 housemates woke up on Sunday we had the radio on while making breakfast and heard a report about a local man in a crash at Limerock. They noted what hospital he was in. I called them and some Sister there who said he had checked himself out and how upset they were.
An hour later he pulled into the driveway. Stayed in bed the rest of the day. So not my first experience with independent rebels😇
