Jane

Sorry MM. sounds like you were happy to know him.

lyle

As I sip a Puilly-Fuisse that we had with a great boiled artichoke earlier...

Beasts of England

Boiled?

MissMarple2

Another Bob,

Thanks for asking.

She is still in shock. She said when it gets to be too much, she just goes to bed.

She also said she keeps wanting him to come back, and she doesn't know how she will get on.

Her sons are taking care of her and the younger one is staying at her house so she doesn't have to drive. He is the iron worker, and said he would just call off jobs for a month or so.

Fortunately my youngest sister and I live fairly close to her, so we can run over and check on her or take her out to eat. That won't make the evenings easier, however.

Catsmeat

Yes, definitely boil the artichokes, in water with lemon and some olive oil, after cutting off the stems and the tips of the leaves--then any kind of flavored mayo or butter for dipping--heaven!

Beasts of England

Thanks, Catsmeat!! I've never made them - just curious. :)

Jim Eagle

Lyle,

You sound like my Belgian Baron FIL. Whenever we would go to a great seafood restaurant in London he would always order a Bordeaux for the fish:)

Okayu

MissMarple2

Jane,

Yes, I was happy to know him. He would have fit in well here, as he had a wide variety of interests. (I am also POSITIVE that he voted for Trump, but kept his politics to himself because he was married to my democrat sister.)

He was a great guy.

lyle

You guys can read this and make of it what you will. Cates is thinking that a lot of papers are taking money for pushing points of view for foreign nationals, which makes them illegal foreign agents.

Interesting hypothesis.

Jim Eagle

Off t9 bed. Caps will have to win it at home. Poor performance tonight.

Beasts of England

Do we get the Eastern NC vinegar-based sauce recipe, Extraneus? :)

lyle

Boiled?

Oh dear heavens, yes. Water is heavily seasoned with 20 shakes each of Worcestershire and Tobasco and a submerged loose tea cage of pickling spice. Served with curry mayo and drawn butter. Awesome.

lyle

GMTA, Catsmeat! Steamed artichokes are...BORING.

lyle

The trimming of the choke is key, BTW.

It's very hard to read the Comey memos but here they are and he's a world class sneaky bastard:https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/04/weasel-moves-with-jim-comey.php?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=sw&utm_campaign=sw&fbclid=IwAR288fmLEpbSmGzQmkNq6GlLlV0Xv1OK3gSmRGY0bIPzRaLTw6HWXuOsjwg

Melinda

If you can bribe a newspaper writer/editor/publisher (NOT sbw), how could you possibly bribe a legislator through a book deal?

lyle

Depends on the fish, JiB. I wouldn’t hesitate to order a nice 1er cru Burgundy with some types of fish. Bordeaux? Not so much.

Melinda

Don’t strain your eyes with the memos:

Well what was the line about fleet street in particular,

So in Libya you have a Lebanese rsad Hezbollah culture minister captaining the campaign against general hafter on behalf of his employer Malley's international crisis group.

Melinda

Almost corporate in structure, isn’t it?

Narciso79

In Yemen you have a Moroccan diplomat fronting Yemen hacking crew that nabbed 1200 persons, he isnt pngd why.

Another interesting detail I gleaned from Mueller report no connection with the expelled diplomats to the exfilled files

As I recall, boiling artichokes takes a long time. You can use a pressure cooker, or nuke them in a microwave for about 10 minutes. At least for those of us in a rush.

Condolences to KK and MM on their losses.

lyle

I boil my chokes for 50 minutes. Add in the time to bring the boil and you’re in an hour.

Momto2

Artichokes are a Keto friendly veggie.

Haven't tried this but it looks good -

Chris Hayes will be on Cheese Stank tonight. Televisions might break from such concentrated retard.

MissMarple2

Heading to bed.

Nytol!

Narciso79

Oh camelbert, yes that when the hellmouth opens,

I guess after 18 years of the long war, the notion of killing children on Easter or as they would call 15th of shaban still cuts to the quick.

clarice

so sorry for the KK and MM families especially at this season where everything is in gorgeous bloom.

Tom R

What a dumbass thing for Kamala to say. Trump would destroy her in a debate.

LOL Bernie was the first one to say he would support allowing convicted felons like the Boston Bomber to vote. What makes it even funnier is that it was CNN who allowed the question to be asked.

jimmyk

momto2 @10:41, that looks a bit like one of my favorite artichoke dishes, carciofi alla giudea. They're cut, blanched, and fried in olive oil.

Pinandpuller

When my daughter was very young she thought that artichokes were a butter delivery device.

Pin,

I think we're going to see a lot more store closures this year. I expect more retail bankruptcies also. Some to just close down, others to re-organize and shed low income stores more easily.

Bed, Bath and Beyond is shedding about fifty stores.

jim nj

More stores closing this year than last year.

Does anyone know about this Paul Gottfried guy? He seems to have conservative's number:

How the Left Conquered the Right

https://youtu.be/vYdmwh-XTcg

"What puts you on the right is that you oppose the belief in human equality, the doctrine of human equality."

jim nj

Joseph Aloïs Schumpeter wrote about "creative destruction" old industries die, new ones arise. The employees released by the dying businesses feed the new ones.

If you're working for a troubled retailer, now is a good time to be laid off. There are other jobs out there right now.

I don't mean to be hard-hearted, but it would be much worse for the retail employees to be laid-off in the depths of a recession.

Pinandpuller

I'll be the turnabout

jim nj

Pin,

That video is too long for me to review, but that quote struck me as way off-key:

"What puts you on the right is that you oppose the belief in human equality, the doctrine of human equality."

I don't know any conservative that would agree with that statement, just the opposite. We believe in equality, the Democrats don't. If they believed in equality inner-city children would be better educated.

A suburban Fort Worth couple has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison each for enslaving a Guinean woman for 16 years.

A federal judge in Fort Worth, Texas, sentenced Mohamed Touré and Denise Cros-Touré each to two seven-year terms and one five-year term, all sentences to be served concurrently. The 58-year-old Southlake, Texas, couple must also serve three years of supervised released upon completion of their prison terms and pay their victim $288,000 in restitution. They also will be deported to Guinea.

And all you lucky people living within driving distance to Minneapolis---you can join with likeminded peeps for dinner and the opportunity to hear Candace Owens speak!

Annual Fund Raiser for Center of the American Experiment

This year our keynote speaker will be the youngest ever, by at least a couple of decades: Candace Owens. When we announced her appearance, one of my staffers said that Candace is on the front lines. I amended that observation: Candace is the front line. Wherever she goes is the battlefield.

Interesting what late night TV can do. I watched a 30 minute retrospective on Shirley Temple followed by a Dick Cavett interview of Shirley Temple Black.

Absolutely fascinating.

She mentioned being a tomboy and being invited to Hyde Park where Eleanor Roosevelt kept bending over to tend to the grill. Well she finally got annoyed enough to pull out a slingshot out of her purse and nailed Eleanor in the ass with a pebble.

She tucked the slingshot back in her purse as the Secret Service freaked out. Only her mother noticed it and punished her later and that's when she became a Republican.

Here is how NBC burst into my life. Context: In May 2018, Stefan Halper was exposed as a spy. I suddenly realised that I have been dragged into a massive scandal. I gave an interview to the Times of London. Then I receive this email from NBC. (1)

Robin, eff 'em all

I just went to that Powerline link for the Candace Owen's event. Was her choice of shirt meant to evoke a straightjacket? If deliberate, well done, Candace.
