The NY Times looks at the crisis on the southern border and yes, they seem to acknowledge it IS a crisis:
The U.S. Immigration System May Have Reached a Breaking Point
For years, there have been warnings that America’s immigration system was going to fail. That time may be now.
Too big to fail? Evidently not. They note that comparisons with the higher illegal entry numbers of decades past is irrelevant, which will come as news to a lot of lefty talking heads:
Gone are the days when young, strong men waited on the Tijuana River levees for their chance to wade across the water, evade capture and find work for the summer. These days, thousands of people a day simply walk up to the border and surrender. Most of them are from Central America, seeking to escape from gang violence, sexual abuse, death threats and persistent poverty. The smugglers have told them they will be quickly released, as long as they bring a child, and that they will be allowed to remain in the United States for years while they pursue their asylum cases.
The very nature of immigration to America changed after 2014, when families first began showing up in large numbers. The resulting crisis has overwhelmed a system unable to detain, care for and quickly decide the fate of tens of thousands of people who claim to be fleeing for their lives. For years, both political parties have tried — and failed — to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws, mindful that someday the government would reach a breaking point.
That moment has arrived. The country is now unable to provide either the necessary humanitarian relief for desperate migrants or even basic controls on the number and nature of who is entering the United States.
Trump draws unfriendly fire as they note a paradox - his 'border closing soon' rhetoric contributed to the current 'beat the wall' stampede:
Yet, perversely, the president’s own anti-immigrant rhetoric has helped supercharge the pipeline of migrants from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Smugglers lately have been buying radio ads in Central America, warning that Mr. Trump is about to shut down all immigration. If you ever want to go to the United States, they say, go now!
However, a surprise!
Experts say the president is not wrong when he says that “legal loopholes” in America’s immigration system are partly responsible for encouraging migrants to bring children like Jeremias on a dangerous journey that in some cases ends in tragedy.
"Not wrong"? I guess their keyboards ignited when they tried to type "Trump is right".
The Times even delves into the basis for an asylum claim, which involves persecution, not poverty. However, they take a pass on noting the role played by America's War on Drugs, which will turn the Big 5-0 on June 18, 2021. Instead, there is this:
There is another problem with the wall: Slowing the exodus of migrants from Central America would need to start in those countries first.
Central America’s economies are still weak, and residents face drug and gang violence at levels largely unseen in other countries. Many are subject to deep poverty, a situation that recently reached a crisis with the collapse of coffee, corn and maize crops.
OK, the violence has been raging for many years. The collapse in commodity prices may be the precipitating event.
Obama's Dream talk followed by Trump's rhetoric surely contributed. So where does the Times take this?
American diplomats say the best way to confront that kind of lawlessness is with the hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid that has been flowing to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras for several years, designed to bolster the rule of law and improve the economy.
The State Department wants a bigger foreign aid budget. Yes, that might help but it is hardly 'outside the checkbook' thinking.
Not wrong"? I guess their keyboards ignited when they tried to type "Trump is right".

Speaking with intel sources this AM who say they are nearly speechless regarding media/Dem attempts to claim spying isn't spying. They say it's indisputable. We're not even talking about low-level spying -- but informants, wiretaps -- unquestionable issue.
===================
In my opinion, the objection is really because average people can understand "spying," as opposed to "counterintelligence investigation" or "unmasking" or other euphemisms.

TK, remember when the GOP apologists refused to acknowledge the consent decree and I couldn't figure out why?
You mean you didn't know that the RNC had been under Double Secret Probation for the last 40 years? And that every one in the GOP-e thought it was just great because it gave them a great excuse for not doing their phoney-baloney jobs?
You know if someone ever showed up who was actually serious about overturning the money-changers tables, he would start a hell of a shit-storm.

Amusing little parody for the dog lovers that i found going through the archive of my old (very old!) blog:
"Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for a show dog, we have been notified by the breeder that at long last our number has come up and... WE ARE HAVING A PUPPY!
"We must get rid of our children immediately because we just know how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be and it just wouldn't be fair to the children. Since our little puppy will be arriving on Monday we must place the children into rescue this weekend!
"They are described as:
"One male - His name is Tommy, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), light blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Temperament tested. Does have problems with peeing directly in the toilet. Has had chicken Pox and is current on all shots.Tonsils have already been removed. Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained and gets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a little training he should be able to read soon.
"One female - Her name is Lexie, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), strawberry blonde hair, green eyes quite freckled. Two years old. Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker. Has been temperament tested but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very healthy and can be affectionate. Gets along well with other little girls & little boys but does not like to share her toys and therefore would do best in a one child household. She is a very quick learner and is currently working on her house training - shouldn't take long at all.
"We really do love our children so much and want to do what's right for them; that is why we contacted a rescue group. But we simply can no longer keep them. Also, we are afraid that they may hurt our new puppy.
"I hope you understand that ours is a unique situation and we have a real emergency here! They MUST be placed into your rescue by Sunday night at the latest or we will be forced to drop them off at the orphanage or along some dark, country road. Our priority now has to be our new puppy."

This hotel in Tampa, The Epicurean, is like something I’d dream up were I a hotelier/restauranteur: a wine-themed hotel. Mrs lyle made all the arrangements and I honestly didn’t even bother to check it out on line ahead of time. Very new modern rooms, a great restaurant and a Bern’s wine shop on the main floor. Lobby/reception area is essentially a wine bar. Did I mention the WiFi password is “merlot1207”? Sheer coincidence that the four digits are the last four of my cell number...

DEMOCRATS' PLAN FOR PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS: A group of Senate Democrats, led by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.), today are unveiling a new plan to overhaul federal student loan forgiveness for public servants, a program that's been plagued by high denial rates over the past year.
— The legislation would allow borrowers to receive partial loan forgiveness — half of their loan balance — after five years of making payments rather than waiting the full 10 years that's currently required. And it would simplify the process by which borrowers certify their public service employment, including creating a database of which employers count as public service under the program.
— The bill would also expand public service loan forgiveness to borrowers of all types of federal student loans who are enrolled in any of the various loan repayment plans. Only some federal loans and some repayment plans qualify, which has been a source of confusion for borrowers seeking to track 10 years of payments.
— Gillibrand, a 2020 presidential contender, said the bill was meant to create a "fairer and simpler process" for borrowers. "The current Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is a bureaucratic nightmare, and the Department of Education is failing to meet its obligation to help ease the student debt burden for our nation's public servants," she said in a statement.

This is like nails on a chalkboard to this non-author. Gah.

A FB friend weighs in on Assange (this guy can do the Rubics Cube blindfolded so he's no amateur):Jeffrey Varasano
1 hr ·
Who is behind this move on Assange? Deep Staters, Trump loyalists or non-partisan law enforcement? Seems pretty likely it's Deep Staters. Let me divide this into 6 levels that I see:
Level 1: Assange may have committed crimes, but if he only published leaks, he's no different than the MSM. His leaks were more numerous, but appear unfiltered, true and reveal an important picture that the public deserves and needs to know, and that was being deliberately hidden from them by many corrupt institutions. So his crime is that of a whistle blower with no other avenues available to achieve justice.
Level 2: The MSM publishes leaks frequently but these are highly filtered and very often untrue. Assange is not the propagandists that the MSM are.
Level 3: If Assange solicited or participated in the generation of leaks, rather than just publishing leaks made by others, that's a bit more serious. However, can we really say that the MSM is cleared of that? Don't they goad leakers? Protect them? Pay them? Give them other quid pro quos?
----------------------------------------
Even up thru Level 3, the public interest may lie more in openness than in protecting state secrets. The eternal question of governance, especially self-governance, is "who watches the watchers? Who polices the police?" The constitution provides almost 20 checks and balances of power, most of which have been radically eroded, as the state works 24/7 to bypass any checks, while the people go to their day jobs. We can see how difficult the truth is to disseminate, even after it's exposed, and how difficult it is to even slow, much less reverse, the continuous centralization of power. Therefore, allowing the state to punish a whistleblower is giving the state more power than is prudent. In who's interest was the whistleblower acting? His own? The people? A foreign power? Hard to see how tipping the scale further towards the state is a good thing. Especially when major, major, major crimes from within the state go unpunished and in fact are rewarded. In theory, the state protects us from foreign interests therefore we the people should be on the side of the state. Hard to see how that's true. The deep state seems like a much bigger threat to liberty right now than any particular foreign power. It's not really close, in fact.
----------------------------------------
Level 4A: Hillary pretty much published her server for the Chinese and Russians to steal for the sole purpose of making sure that you and I didn't see her massive bribery and treason. Deleting 30000 emails under supeona adds obstruction of Justice to the charge.
Level 4B: The deep state obviously obstructed Justice for Hillary in too many ways to list here.
Level 5: Obama and the deep state spied on an opposing campaign and tried to influence the 2016 election.
Level 6: The deep state attempted a coup, harrassed people, threw them into solitary and generally acted like any police state. They highly influenced the midterms. Clearly there were crimes here that rise to the level of treason. Watergate x 100.

Self Policing:
Note; we have yet to hear any Bar Association bringing charges/investigating Avennatti.

In fact, to their everlasting disgrace, the California Bar investigated him last year for these VERY charges and dismissed the investigation, claiming that none of the charges had been verified yet. Proving that Bar Associations are nothing more than scams set up to shield their dirty members from scrutiny.

Maybe the charges weren't verified last year, and now they are. After all the USAttys have more resources to investigate than does the Bar Association which largely sticks to disbarring attys who've been convicted or who clearly stole from clients.
