Sen. Kamala Harris has a pen and a phone and she's not afraid to shriek into it! The NY Times explains that she won't pin her hopes for gun control on Congress and will rely on executive orders. They include this surprisingly candid assessment (my mockery):
The executive actions would also include more strident regulation of gun manufacturers...
SpelChechnyan is an uncertain ally. Although I guess I should roll the videotape before concluding this was a mistake.
TRUST BUT VERIFY: I actually will be happier when the Times correct this, but meanwhile...

Judicial Watch: FBI Admits Hillary Clinton Emails Found in Obama White House
Also Confirms Over 49,000 Clinton Server Emails Found on Weiner Laptop
(Washington, DC) -- Judicial Watch announced today that a senior FBI official admitted, in writing and under oath, that the agency found Clinton email records in the Obama White House, specifically, the Executive Office of the President. The FBI also admitted nearly 49,000 Clinton server emails were reviewed as result of a search warrant for her material on the laptop of Anthony Weiner.
E.W. (Bill) Priestap, assistant director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division, made the disclosure to Judicial Watch as part of court-ordered discovery into the Clinton email issue.

CH, narciso--tonight I am teaching a chapter from Lytton Strachey's (snark-filled) Eminent Victorians (1918)--the chapter is the biography of the great military hero, Gen. "China" Gordon--in the end, adherents of the "Mahdi" cut the general down as Khartoum falls. The British public said many bad things about Gladstone, who let it happen, but he gave up on the area and moved the heart of British operations to Afghanistan, where the Great Game and serious local pushback necessitated the move. So nuking Khartoum rings a bell with me. The "Mahdi" himself didn't last long--violent end 13 years later. Strachey is making subtle digs at Gordon throughout, mostly for his deep religiosity and his unquestioning patriotic bravery. But then he was a really close friend of Virginia Woolf and a Bloomsbury person and so that's what you'd expect. The other chapters also snark about Florence Nightingale, Thomas Arnold (headmaster of Rugby and father of Matthew Arnold), and Cardinal Manning. This is the last class of my fin de siecle grad seminar--it's been a great class. But yes, to taking down Khartoum! Preferably by using Kev's excellent suggestion, the services available through 1-800-daddy.
Oh, and tonight they also get the 1915 diary entries of Woolf herself. Then they fill out their student evaluations and we say adieu!

One reason I have been suspicious of the GOP (OK, not so suspicious of them), and also a little suspicious of Trump's commitment to bringing Law & Order to all those Clinton-Obama crooks, is that NOBODY has ever produced a simple chart listing the "Crimes" that have been known to Trump supporters, together with a date when the Statutes run out for each.
Since approaching deadlines would invigorate the base demanding action, is that why that data has not been gathered and published?

Beautiful service and military honors at the gravesite. Two very highly-decorated Marines presented the flag to my sister, on "on behalf of the President of the United States, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and a grateful nation." The American Legion fired off a 21-gun salute and played Taps.
Things I learned about my late brother-in-law:
He decided to go to Vegas and deal blackjack, which he had learned to do in Australia.
While he was in Las Vegas, he taught himself archery and then proceeded to win the Nevada state championship.
He had gone to pre-Castro Cuba with his fraternity brothers on vacation.
As my brother said (he did the eulogy) he had a life rather like someone out of Soldier of Fortune magazine.
Now I will go see what has been going on while I was gone.

I wonder how long Trump has known about the FBI having all of those Hillary emails? My bet is this revelation has been waiting for the Mueller report to go public.
I know JW got the information via a court order but the DOJ could have fought against having that information become public on national security grounds. IMO all part of Trumpâs strategic long term plan to drain the Swamp using multiple different approaches.
Posted by: Tom R | April 23, 2019 at 03:10 PM
"All things yield to money"
"Not true. Health doesn't, nor does death."
Even in the area of health and death money has some influence though not, of course, absolute.
Every time a pro-Gov't-health Canadian politician comes to America and pays cash for medical treatment, it is an example of how money influences health.
Wealthy Westerners can, in some cases, travel to Asia and purchase live organs thus extending their health.
Every day that Hillary is not swinging from a rope, it shows the influence of money over death.
Not absolute power, but on occasion a powerful influence.

"Two very highly-decorated Marines presented the flag to my sister, on "on behalf of the President of the United States, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and a grateful nation."
i witnessed the military burial ceremony hundreds of times burying mostly Marines and Army during the Vietnam war.
We altar boys traveled with our resident district chaplain to the military burial grounds in Colma CA, just south of San Francisco. Sometimes weâd miss the entire school day should we have interred 3 or more of the fallen.
To this day the military burial protocol and salutes, especially the final command to fire, chokes me to no end.
After laying 15 to rest in one day in 1968 I was crushed by the end. I lost nearly all of my salt during the ride home to San Lorenzo. The chaplain had some words I stand on to this day:
"Son, burying the dead is a spiritual experience. Ask God to work through you with Divine Intelligence so you will be able to comfort the living."
This has been some parting season. Blessings and prayers for you and yours, MM.
Aho.
