Iggy @ 11:13

My first chance to sit in front of my PC today so just now getting the chance to respond to you.
Not because I have lost quite a bit of respect for some people here in their dealings with you, though I have.
And not because defending yourself is wrong.

I'll go out on a limb and bet there is a high correlation that the people you have lost quite a bit of respect for are the same people who routinely engage in unprovoked hostility towards me. If one thing positive comes out of your post today is that they will come to understand the error of their ways.

In response to your two suggestions that I should just "let it slide" for those who engage in personal attacks, I would like to point out a couple of things.

You make many good points [and many bad ones], but they are all lost in the pointless, stupid conflict that continues when you answer in kind.

I make it a point to not respond back in kind to the hostility directed toward me. If anything when I counterpunch most of the time I hold back with what I'm really thinking. When you get called a pussy, fool, idiot, mentally unstable, drama queen etc there are a lot of options available for me to respond in kind. Instead I prefer to go with subtle counterpoints as much as possible. I am a firm believer in a few things when it comes to political blogs like this. First, if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen and second, if you like to dish it out, don't whine and complain when someone returns the favor. That is just cowardly and lame to me. Lastly, we are all supposed to be on the same team. We don't all have to have the same opinion on what is going on with Spygate. Just agree to disagree and stop making things personal.

You mentioned RG's congenial nature. He was a regular poster here long before I was and made a lot of friends. Prior to Spygate there wasn't any reason for conservatives, Christians, Trump supporters, patriots etc here to attack a fellow teammate. The real enemy were the leftists. When it comes to Spygate RG and I share almost identical positions on pretty much everything related to it. RG stopped posting here regularly for a reason. I could be wrong but I assume he got tired of dealing with the crap he was getting for having a differing opinion. The kind of intolerance I was seeing here from a few people wasn't really much different that what we see routinely from the Progtard leftists who are the real enemy. I will freely admit to having a problem with people who act like that so with RG gone I took up the banner and kept defending our shared positions.

People will either keep calling you names and insulting you in spite of your politeness, which will very quickly make them appear to be unreasonable shit-stirring creeps, in contrast to your demeanor, and lose whatever support they have as the hot coals of revealing they were the real problem land on their head.

That is ideally how this community should operate but I think you know that you are the only poster here who has called out the people who were "unreasonable shit-stirring creeps". As you pointed out to Maryrose later on in the day, the people who disagree with my opinions on Spygate appear to be blind to the hostility or maybe even condone it. I was getting pretty close to just saying screw it and start actually responding in kind but I am going to hold off on that. I hope your post opened their eyes and caused them to realize what they were doing.

Whatever you're seeing, he isn't dancing the tango by himself.

No doubt I share in some of the blame but I never start anything. I just respond. If I ever say something insulting, derisive, condescending, snarky, etc, rest assured multiple posters who disagree with me were the same towards me already. To answer Beasts from earlier the solution is if you don't like it don't act that way yourself.

Old fashioned traps, with a dab of peanut butter as bait worked great! But you need a place to put them where kids and dogs won't poke their nose.

Also this is in today's newsletter drops.

Democratising futures means creating new capacity among many more diverse people to explore and articulate their alternative and desirable visions of the future. It must create hope - enabling people to co-diagnose the issues and opportunities, build common ground and collectively imagine preferred futures. Investment, policy and collective civic action should then be aligned to help deliver these common visions. This is anticipatory democracy, not the extractive surveying of needs and wants against a narrow prescribed set of options that characterises many ‘public engagement’ exercises. Too often these are little more than PR activities conducted relatively late in the decision-making process.

Tom R

rse

Most people underestimate how malleable the future is. But using participatory futures methods can raise comprehension of its plasticity, and this is an important precondition for people to then act in new or different ways.

Anecdotal evidence from participatory futures exercises suggests they can lead to significant change for communities. But rigorous or longitudinal evaluations of these approaches are relatively few, so the evidence base is sketchy. The reasons for this are not clear. Perhaps it is the eclecticism of the field, the lack of clarity on how to evaluate these methods, or the belief of its supporters that the impact is self-evidentiary.

As part of our new research agenda into participatory futures, we want to address this challenge. We hope to identify how newer and more traditional futures methods can practically be combined to greatest effect. We want to understand the impact on the individuals and groups involved, as well as on the wider community. We want to know whether platforms for public imagination can help nurture more of the things we need: more inclusive economies and innovation, healthier community relationships, greater personal agency for individuals, and more effective civic society. is more.

From the UK's NESTA this week but tied unfortunately to US and the need for all that data.

Jim nj, LEOs are quite limited in what they can do, though talking to them will fruitful. Unless and until Debra decides she is not a human punching bag, YOU cannot make this go away. She is a big part of this right now. She very likely has long accepted a whole lot of bad -or at least dysfunctional--behavior.

Be very careful about imposing your will here--like calling 911. You may end up living with consequences you will regret the rest of your life. These are the guys that kill their own kids to "show that bitch". This guy well could do the same to your Nancy, not just Debra.

Make sure Debra has the local domestic abuse hot line--that is a lifeline. And they best know how to deal with these victims, and how to get them to wake up, realize they are valuable, and deserve to be safe.

Jimnj, concur with amom. I understand it’s hard to seemingly “stand by” while this happens. But you can’t/don’t control this.

Ask your LEO buds what happens at a lot of “domestic” calls. Male has assaulted the female. Female calls 911. Cops arrive and start to cuff male. Female starts screaming at/assaulting cops yelling not to take him away.

Irrational, but that’s what it is. Injecting yourself into that situation is unlikely to help and could redound badly. (Same goes for Nancy.). Support for Debra (say getting her a list of shelters) and encouragement to her to change is about the best you can do IMO.
