The WaPo editors come out swinging in defense of charter schools.
There’s nothing progressive about strangling charter schools
No, but there's a lot that's progressive about unquestioning fealty to public sector unions and to a belief in central government control.
Mayor deBlasio of NYC has a record on public school administration but fortunately he is not now nor will ever be more than an asterix candidate in the Presidential polls.
Among the less ludicrous candidates, Spartacus has some relevant history as former Mayor of Newark. In the Senate he has also voted on (and mostly for) the DC charter school program.
Chalkbeat and Dylan Scott of Vox have lots more. Let me bottom-line you - it's complicated. From Chalkbeat:
There’s no doubt the reforms were unpopular with many residents. Whether they improved outcomes for students has been the subject of debate.
A recent study led by Harvard researchers found that the changes led to an initial decline in student growth on state tests. By 2016, students’ annual gains in English, but not math, were higher than comparable students across New Jersey, the researchers found. Students’ scores have continued to rise, and graduation rates leapt nearly 20 percentage points since the overhaul began. Meanwhile, the city’s large charter-school networks — including North Star Academy, whose board Booker once sat on — rank among the top performing schools in the state.
Other indicators are less encouraging: About one in three students in Newark’s traditional schools were chronically absent last school year — about the same share as when the reforms began.
But whatever improvements the changes spurred have largely been overshadowed by the way they were enacted. Detailed in the book “The Prize” by journalist Dale Russakoff, the overhaul came to symbolize top-down reform imposed by ideological outsiders and highly paid consultants.
In recent years, Zuckerberg has reconsidered his approach to reform in Newark, saying he wants to “go in the opposite direction” by working more closely with community members and teachers unions.

Well, since we must. Enjoyed Chinese food at Hung Wai Ching’s My Tantalus home as a kid. Ching made sure Japanese-Americans in Hawaii were not put in internment camps during WWII. Other notables my brother’s and I got to talk with at that dinner: General Feilding (“make a note of that Fielding” as seen in Tora Tora Tora), Admiral Christie (head of submarines in the Pacific WWII). Fielding lost it laughing when I asked Christie if the John Wayne film about torpedoes not working was factual. Ching was my grandfather’s good friend and neighbor from his USARPAC command days. We were visiting my uncle, then Commander AntiSubmarine Warfare Pacific out of Pearl.
Bringing the memory back is seeing this tweet about a friend I grew up with on the Ferguson Mo swim team thru high school, we shared many birthday parties (he is one year younger than I). Good to see he is doing the joint Pacific Command from Pearl Hickam as is ties it all together. Small world eh?

Evangelicals band together to pray for the President.
Statement from AFA--
AFA is joining 250+ Christian leaders and Rev. Franklin Graham in asking followers of Christ across our nation to set aside next Sunday, June 2, as a special day of prayer for the President, Donald J. Trump.
President Trump's enemies continue to try everything to destroy him, his family, and the presidency. In the history of our country, no president has been attacked as he has. We believe the only hope for him, and this nation, is God.
This is a critical time for America. We’re on the edge of a precipice. Time is short. We need to pray for God to intervene. We need to ask God to protect, strengthen, encourage, and guide the President.
We know that God hears and answers prayer. He can soften hearts and change minds. He is all-powerful, and He rules over the affairs of nations. The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority, "that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior" (1 Timothy 2:2–3, NKJV).
On June 2, we ask that pastors would lead their congregations in praying for the President, that Sunday schools and other groups would join together and pray, and that individuals and families across the country would have a special focus on praying for the President that day.

I'm actually arguing about the football Rooney Rule in another blog, and there are people who say they think that forcing teams to interview minority candidates helps minority candidates, as if racist owners would hire minorities just because of this rule rather than opt for inferior candidates due to their racism, and thus lose more football games due to their inferior hires.

The FISA abuse alone is breathtaking in its scope. This article says Judge Rosemary Collier has found that 34,000 of 40,000 searches of NSA's database from 2012 to 2016 were illegal. Of 5000 searches between 10/16 and 4/17, 4250 were illegal or noncompliant.
I think I've posted a link to the Rosemary Collyer report that was declassified in the Spring of 2017 at least a dozen times since it was released. It's why I've been saying for over two years that the spying went on since at least 2012.
There is no way in hell that isn't coming out. It was the basis for Horowitz' FISA abuse investigation. People most definitely are going to be indicted.

Stu Voigt was my summer camp counselor in International Falls when I was 10. I learned his trick for soft catching hands. Ping pong balls caught with the fingertips, only. Most of the Vikings offensive line was there to learn footwork by American Indian dancing, a trick let on by Bronco Nagurski, who lived nearby and owned the Union 76 station downtown. Mr. Nagurski had the biggest hands I'd ever seen, then and now. Gas pump handle could fit in his palm.
Voigt loved using a double headed axe in competitive felling.

I was getting more confused during the conversation. Coolant is for heater and engine and didn’t see it as a major concern for the AC. Suspect the selector door as TK or refrigerant which would indicate a leak.. but not sure if air would still be coming from dashboard if selector is goofy. I’m in Abilene Tx and ANY air from the blower is gonna be hot in May if no AC is working.

Sid, I was concerned with the "blend" door which separates the heater core from the plenum. That is controlled by the TEMP knob. When narciso mentions air conditioning it throws me off. That system is controlled by the MODE knob that also operates several "selector" doors within the plenum.
I have no idea what the car is doing. If there is little noticeable temprature difference between the full right and full left of the TEMP knob, that is one problem. If, in addition to that, the air does not drop in temperature when AC is selected on the MODE knob and the TEMP is in the coldest setting, it could be a couple of problems.
I would listen for the compression cycling to at least confirm that the AC is trying to work. Click then a pause then another click.
Good luck narciso, I'm afraid I may not be giving you the best info.
