The Olympic rulemakers rival their NCAA counterparts for cranial/anal impaction:
Caster Semenya ruling redefines what it means to be female in sport
(CNN)A landmark ruling concerning one of the most contested issues in sport -- gender identity -- has sent shockwaves through track and field in setting out new parameters for female athletes.
On Wednesday, double Olympic champion Caster Semenya lost her appeal against the introduction of new rules regulating the testosterone levels for athletes with a difference in sex development (DSD).
The 28-year-old South African, who is hyperandrogenous -- meaning she has elevated levels of testosterone -- will now need to take medication to reduce her testosterone if she wants to compete internationally at events between 400 meters and one mile. Semenya is the dominant force in women's middle distance running.
However, the judges themselves are not sure what they have wrought:
In its ruling the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that its three-person panel had rejected Semenya's challenge against athletics' governing body -- the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) -- "by majority" but did add that it had "serious concerns as to the future practical application" of the new rules.
Under the IAAF's policy, which will now come into effect on May 8, all DSD athletes, who are usually born with testes, would have to reduce their blood testosterone levels to below five nmol/L for a continuous period of at least six months, and maintain those levels continuously for the rest of their athletic career, if they want to compete internationally at middle-distance events.
Let's note that roughly 5% to 10% of women are DSD. There's lots of background from earlier at CBS, which includes an obvious question: if DSD confers an advantage at 400M to 1 mile, why doesn't it help in other sports where extra muscle is obviously helpful? Track and field fans will immediately think of the "weight" events such as the hammer, shot put and discus. Before spring football took over, offensive lineman would routinely join the track team to put ye olde shot while the defensive backs, running backs and wide receivers would stretch, sprint and work on their tans.
And a last thought: this rule looks like BS but IF it gains widespread adoption and IF it is applied to other sports and more broadly within track, transgenders competing as women will be in a new place. For example, two teens won state championships in the 100m and 200min Connecticut recently. Something similar occurred in Alaska. This podium photo from the women's world bike racing championships did not meet universal acclaim.
OTOH, very few of us take women's sports seriously anyway and these are high school results from two small states (but big in spirit! Also big in unfunded pension liabilities. Whatev.). Maybe we all just move one.
Willowed...
That there should be no "gun free zones" anywhere, which clearly endanger people's chances of being a victim of a mass shooter, like UNCC's campus.
anonamom, my take on this.
Every Person has a RIGHT TO LIFE and therefore a RIGHT AND A DUTY TO PROTECT THAT LIFE. Everywhere a person is or travels to or thru.
A "magic sign" or "magic piece of paper" will not stop Mr. Bullet or Ms. Switchblade or Uncle Baseball Bat. An armed person is not guaranteed that they can stop the threat to themselves or others, only that they have A FIGHTING CHANCE TO SURVIVE.
Police have no duty to provide protection for any person, even if a person has a personal protection or restraining order. See Castle Rock v Gonzales, NYT Article
Police do no have to respond to 911 calls. See Warren v DC, GOA Post
I HOPE I HAVE ENOUGH ALL CAPS TO SATISFY GUS. Also, I believe I have sourced my suppositions properly enough for Tom R.

I decided not to make it any worse and shut off my cable box in my office. I use my 40" TV for a monitor for multiple systems, so cannot take it out but was good and ready to (although this Barr Hearing on this hill could drive one to drink).
Yeah, I might be having a migraine... Shouting at the TV any louder does not make them listen better...
Wish me luck, off to an interview for different job within same company and for the same client.

And the sun sets in the West, H. They can't help but make utter fools of themselves. It's in their DNA. And the media twist it all into nice logic free pretzels.
The Mueller letter to me is a bit mysterious. He said "The summary letter sent by the Department to Congress and released to the public on the afternoon of March 24 did fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office's work and conclusions"
Who the hell is this guy? Hemingway?
He wrote a report based upon the evidence for his boss.
That it was prepared by a bunch of Democrat activists might be pointed out to him. Prosecutors think the worst of the people they are investigating anyway. Cross that with clearly partisan political affiliations and the report really isn't worth the paper it is printed on. There is no call for his meddling.

re the Somali cop murder trial:
the cop's story was that a loud slam against his patrol car (in which he was riding shotgun) startled him and the driver.
his reflex was to fear for his life, point, and shoot the woman dead.
none of the victim's DNA was found on the car during a forensics investigation which followed. then the car was washed.
the "because i said so" defense fell apart.
stunning to me they had their lights off in the vehicle while sitting in that alley responding to a 911 caller.
not sure of the official rationale for doing so--- even if they were hoping to surprise the assailant, weren't they better off having an ironclad presence as POLICE?
or were they going to rely on their seated positions in the squad car to alert both vic and perp that they were armed police responding to the scene?
a real police chief will dissect this incident and retrain all of their rookies.
what say ye Chief gentlejim? i'm spitballin. :D

Privacy is not that difficult... it is the theater required by the compliance scam (lawyers and consultants) that are absurd and expensive.
“There’s information that after the GDPR went into effect, a number of small businesses had to shut down because they could simply not afford to comply,” Wicker said, referring to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. A CNN report last year said GDPR forced an online game producer, a small social network and a mobile marketing firm to close key businesses or shut down entirely.
