This is rich. In 2016 Democrats said Trump would challenge the legitimacy of the election. Then they spent two years challenging the legitimacy of the election. Now, with 2020 approaching, Nancy Pelosi is trying the same thing again. From NYT: http://ow.ly/iyQU50tYxFI

Did he actually change from Thatcher to May?

All you need is to have one of the enterprising UK reporters (who are more enterprising than any of ours) ask her if she called Biden and dissed Trump.

We know Biden is a serial exaggerator, and plagiarism specialist, as well as a liar par excellent. I wonder if Vlad, Maduro, Xi, Castro, and Kim are some of the 14 leaders:)

Because JOM seems to be inhabited by a lot of Engineer Types:

My neighbor's house behind me is a the top of the hill.

I'm probably about 8 to 9 feet below him to the south.

He did some pretty extensive landscaping last fall.

Now, all the rain that falls on the top of the hill runs into my backyard.

My backyard has a flat area about 40' by 50' and it's a swamp now.

It used to be one of my favorite spots on the property because is was a glade with a small grove of black walnuts that started there and extended to the west of my property. I lost one last month in wind storm because the ground was so saturated with water.

I mowed today and it is literally a swamp. The grass is dying off.I'll have alligators in there by fall if I don't do something.

I've got to get that water out of that 40' by 50' area. If I can get it to far end (west side) of the 50', I can run it down the hill to the county road. An added bonus would be a way to direct it straight down the hill and keep it out of sinkhole (I sit on a karst area) on the way down the hill.

I could dig a trench but that's a bit unsightly.

Is there a way to keep that 40' by 50' area flat, not have a trench running thru it and get the water outta there and down the hill?

Threadkiller

Threadkiller

I helped a friend with a similar problem that he caused, bb. We put a sump with a pump in it to resolve the issue. Both ground water and surface water make it to the sump and then it pumps through a 1"pipe to some rip-rap just before his curb.

We didn't want to pump directly through the curb because we thought the piss stream under full force would draw the attention of his granola neighbors.

Threadkiller

...bub...

bubarooni

Already checked that out with the county henry.

Topography says he'll get away with it scot free.

My initial thought was a 18' berm with gun turrets pointing north.

Better Half says 'No' and to find a cheaper alternative.

Threadkiller

I guess if you have a hill below you, you really don't need the pump. Put several sumps in the yard with grates at ground level and french drain pipe under the surface. Then run solid pipe to daylight out the side of the hill below your flat area.

Effectively your trenches will be underground.

Plenty of digging though. You may have to trade in the riding mower for a Bobcat.

Another Bob

Bubarooni, everywhere I’ve lived, you had an obligation to not push runoff onto another’s property.

The neighbor needed to install some French drains and dry wells.

bubarooni

On my way to find out what 'french drain pipe' is...

Beasts of England

May I suggest a voltmeter?

Threadkiller

Yes to the gun turrets!

Tell your wife they are hydrologically engineered water displacers of the cannon variety.

Threadkiller

May I suggest a voltmeter?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!

Jack is Back!

Bubaroni,

Why didn't you have this problem before? What kind of landscaping did he do that now causes this event?

You can install a French Drain and keep it within your grounds landscaping without any detrimental effect. Even with just enough of trench to collect the water and filter it away via a perforated drain pipe covered by gravel. Pretty inexpensive compared to dry cisterns.

Another Bob

“may have to trade in the riding mower for a Bobcat”

Ain’t that the truth.

And hope for a nice longish dry spell.

Extraneus

Neighbor has to pay to fix that. Take pictures.

bubarooni

OK, I like the french drain idea.

Will it still work if I trench, line with a clay pipe, fill with rock and then cover with with dirt and sod?

That'd keep the look I want so I can still enjoy the area.

That area lays up on the back side of my house, off what we call 'Mom's Porch' where all the 'flower stuff' goes on every spring.

if it'll drain it without messing up the view, I've got a way forward.

Threadkiller

Sometimes called drain tile, bub.

For your situation it is important to leave virgin soil at the bottom of the trench you dig for the pipe. Usually a french drain is placed around a footing of a house or a retaining wall to catch water in a specific area and move it to daylight(the outside of wherever the water wants to be trapped.

You will put gravel on top of the french drain to allow the soil bleed off the excess water where you direct it. The water, once it reaches the gravel, will go straight to the pipe.

You will need a pretty clever plan for the best way to layout the necessary pipe.

Jack is Back!

I would use a perforated PVC pipe sitting in at least 3-6 inches of drain gravel and covered with same. Keep a dentation to allow draining down to the pipe. Don't want it running away from the drain area.

Riding mower?

It caught on fire last weekend.

I pushed mowed today. Well, it's a four wheel drive Husqvarna so I actually walked behind it.

Took 3 hours though...

Beasts of England

'Will it still work if I trench, line with a clay pipe, fill with rock and then cover with with dirt and sod?'

I've seen them both ways: pea gravel as a top course smoothed to match the grade, and also with sod as the final layer. Sod will work fine if the water flow is steady, not torrents. If the flow is noticeable runoff, you're better off without sod.

Threadkiller

Neighbor has to pay to fix that. Take pictures.

Bub says the county has already resigned themselves to the topography argument. This is a tough hurdle unless you have an Army Corps of Engineers map that suggests the contrary.

The lawsuit engineer that he would have to hire would break the landscape bank.

*Disclaimer*

I am not an engineer. I am just a guy drinking a Ballast Point Manta Ray, listening to ZZ Top, sitting in a patio chair, wiping tears from my eyes thanks to BoE's stupid joke.

bubarooni

Can I cover the french drain with dirt and sod and still get the water outta there?

Another Bob

Also need permeable fabric on top of 5he gravel to keep soil from clogging the drain.

Jack is Back!

Here you go but I don't think you will need this elaborate a scheme.

BIDEN ATTEMPTS TO WALK BACK CHINA’S ‘NOT COMPETITION’ REMARKS

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Saturday clarified remarks he made about China not being an economic threat to the U.S. last week.

“I don’t suggest China is not a problem. I’m the guy who’s been the toughest on – I’ve spent more time with Xi Jinping than anybody else, just because the nature of my job,” Biden said during a fundraiser at the home of Richard “Dick” Harpootlian, an attorney and former South Carolina Democratic Party chairman in Columbia, South Carolina.

“He’s got problems, he’s got gigantic problems. Doesn’t mean he’s not a threat, doesn’t mean they’re not a threat,” Biden added.

Last Wednesday, while campaigning in Iowa, Biden argued that China, the world’s second-largest economy, was “not competition” for the United States.

“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man,” Biden said. “They can’t even figure out how to deal with the fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the east, I mean in the west.”

Another Bob

Oh, and yes Bub, the french drain is intended to be covered by soil.

I’d start with a knock on the asshole neighbor’s door.

Beasts of England

Heh.

Threadkiller

Will it still work if I trench, line with a clay pipe, fill with rock and then cover with with dirt and sod?

Yes, as long as the end of the drain gets outside the hill below you(daylight).

But you can use the poly pipe just the same. It will be covered by gravel and sod just the same. They have a filter sock for the pipe to keep it free flowing as well.

Threadkiller

I said "just the same" twice.

Better switch beers.

The Infamous Ignatz

I'd just buy a 12 gauge, toss some decoys out there and wait til fall.

Threadkiller

Bub,
I’d start with a knock on the asshole neighbor’s door.

This sounds like my kind of JOM meet up.

Beasts of England

If Biden makes that many unforced errors in friendly fundraising territory, how is he going to survive his primary run? Glib won't cut it.

Extraneus
Biden continued, “They can’t figure out how they’re going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not, they’re not competition for us.”

Although Biden made similar comments in the past, his Wednesday remarks drew rebukes from not just Republicans but also Democrats.

“It’s wrong to pretend that China isn’t one of our major economic competitors,” the Sanders campaign tweeted. “When we are in the White House we will win that competition by fixing our trade policies.”

Ohio Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan called Biden “stunningly out of touch.”

Gafftastic!

Threadkiller

It caught on fire last weekend.

Weren't you just doing a clutch or something on it?

bubarooni

Yes TK!

No lawyers.

I'd like to do it myself without suing the neighbor which I'll lose and gain an enemy.

The county told me that no matter my complaint, gravity rules in these situations.

I have a 15 y.o. son whom digging a french drain with his Dad might not be a bad 'summer project'.

henry

I’ll drink to your blisters.

Buckeye

Well, at least the death count isn't up to 41.

Another Bob

Will also be moving a ton or so of gravel too Bub. TK wasn’t kidding about the bobcat.

Another Bob

And for damn sure don’t start til it’s dried out.

Another Bob

Consider getting an estimate from a landscaping company.

The Infamous Ignatz

Unless the landscaping company employs 15 year olds who work for nothing hard to see how they're going to be low bidder.

Threadkiller

I'd like to do it myself without suing the neighbor which I'll lose and gain an enemy.

Yep. AB has a great idea that may work out to your advantage.

Consider getting an estimate from a landscaping company.

Maybe tell the neighbor you would like an estimate from his company. That could kick off the conversation as to what you are forced to do. Who knows, maybe he will pitch in.

If the State Law on Water is "Western", a neighbor may not impede or retard the free flow of water to his neighbor, suh as retention ponds or irrigation ditches. If it accelerates it, that's in compliance, annoying as it is.

Learned this bit the hard way, here in IL.

Picking up the flow via French drain may be your best shot, unless you want to bury a huge cistern in there.
