His father committed suicide while suffering from incurable lung cancer when Bill was 18. De Blasio graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in 1979, where he served in student government and was affectionately known to peers as "Senator Provolone". When he was 22, he adopted his mother's surname because his father was "largely absent," and he wanted to embrace his Italian heritage. He hyphenated it to Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm in 1983, and formally adopted the name Bill de Blasio in December 2001. He received a Bachelor of Arts from New York University, majoring in metropolitan studies, a program in urban studies, and received a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.
In 1988, he traveled with the Quixote Center to Nicaragua for 10 days to help distribute food and medicine during the Nicaraguan Revolution. De Blasio was an ardent supporter of the ruling socialist government, the Sandinista National Liberation Front,
Well if we are discussing whether Trump can be prosecuted once he’s out of office it seems a good time to point out that Obama is already out of office...

The Civil War ended more than 150 years ago, but the U.S. government is still paying a veteran's pension from that conflict.
"One beneficiary from the Civil War [is] still alive and receiving benefits," Randy Noller of the Department of Veterans Affairs confirms.
Irene Triplett – the 86-year-old daughter of a Civil War veteran – collects $73.13 each month from her father's military pension. The identity of Triplett was first reported by The Wall Street Journal in 2014.
"Yet even as reformers have pushed to remove a variety of barriers to employment, the biggest and most significant barrier to employment in American life — the use of the college degree as a default hiring device — has gone blithely unremarked. Indeed, even as reformers target employment obstacles for felons and florists, the pervasive use of college-degree requirements, despite its dubious legality and profound costs, has bizarrely escaped serious consideration."
Absolutely infuriating post. Using college degrees as a bar to employment. Ability tests have been knocked down as discriminatory, so requiring a college degree is easier to defend legally.
Companies require job applicants to have college degrees even when they aren't needed for the job, because they are less likely to be caught up in a discrimination suit.
This BS was the only reason that at age 30+ I went back to college to get a degree. Without a degree I wasn't worthy of consideration for a job that I could have done without the damn degree.

The Phenix City Story, A crime-busting lawyer and his initially reluctant attorney father take on the forces that run gambling and prostitution in their small Southern town.
Never saw this before. I was in Columbus, Georgia in the 90's.
Nice city, on my way to the airport to return home I saw that if I crossed two bridges I could ride though Phenix City, Alabama and claim another state visited.
MM, catching up from yesterday--that video you posted for me of all those oh-so-thin New Yorkers before processed food--

Now I do that each week, if not more frequently.
It's not just just processed food--it's that damned food pyramid with six to eight servings of grains that George McGovern created out of thin air, and the cardiologists' Fake Lipid Theory they promulgated with the support of BigPharma, who could peddle their statins as long as they held that BS to be true. Not to mention BigFood loving the low fat/high carb era. Cheetos and Pringles as health food!

Didn't know that beck in the 40's and 50's it was a cesspit. The above movie dramatizes this.

MM, catching up from yesterday--that video you posted for me of all those oh-so-thin New Yorkers before processed food--
I trained from 1979-1984, and I took care of ONE patient in that time who weighed over 300 pounds.

MM, Re: Merkel - I'd guess that was a side effect of some medication. Absolutely know way to know for sure, but I feel allowed to speculate.

Deutsch says no one on the stage could beat Trump. O'Donnell goes ballistic.

Going right along with Deutsch's opinion:

Sincerely. And I mean this. Donald Trump has taught the country they don’t have to put up with this platitude B.S. These people can’t hang with him in a debate. None can. And that’s not wishful thinking. These people are blowdried phonies. #DemocratDebates

Well if we are discussing whether Trump can be prosecuted once he’s out of office it seems a good time to point out that Obama is already out of office...

MM,
That's not the gist of the trade war "truce" I posted earlier. More like a list of Chinese demands.
The two sides don't appear to be on the same page.
