NY State Democrats approve the most virtue-signalling green program yet:
New York to Approve One of the World’s Most Ambitious Climate Plans
The state would pledge to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with all its electricity coming from carbon-free sources.
New York lawmakers have agreed to pass a sweeping climate plan that calls for the state to all but eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, envisioning an era when gas-guzzling cars, oil-burning heaters and furnaces would be phased out, and all of the state’s electricity would come from carbon-free sources.
...
If the state manages to hit those targets, it would effectively create a so-called net-zero economy, the ultimate goal of environmentalists and others seeking to slow the pace of global warming.
Let me emphasize the magical thinking hidden in "a net-zero-economy, the ultimate goal...". This bill, if achieved, will make NY State a net-zero region. There are no border tariffs for carbon intensive products produced elsewhere.
Can New Yorkers still eat beef? Those cows have to fart somewhere. Can the state import steel for infrastructure and buildings? Who (if anyone) offsets the carbon emissions associated with mining and processing that steel in New Yorkers do not?
And while on the topic of burden-shifting, absent huge breakthroughs in energy storage (possible!), NY State will have a major baseload power production problem. Their intended solution seems to be to free-ride off their neighbors on the regional grid, which may raise eyebrows in other states. You can ride but you can't hide from those angry ducks!

Captain Hate,
So, it's a variation on what I discussed at 9:04.
Who benefits from those companies being squeezed? Which water company can pass the impossible standards and is ready to fill the gap?
That's the root of the problem: these unelected agencies can play winners and losers for any reason they want or are directed to. The DOJ destroyed Arthur Anderson in an action that was reversed 9-0 by the Supreme Court after the damage was done. And the architect of that, Andrew Weissmann, just signed a whopper book deal. Where is the justice? Where is the outrage?

This has the BBC clutching her pearls:

Pompeo tells Christian Broadcasting Network on Purim that Trump, like Queen Esther, may have been raised for such a time as this.
When I was a kid up until at least the 1967 war, it was a given that we rooted for Israel as the only democracy in the Middle East. It's amazing how rooting for and helping Israel has suddenly become suspicious to the democrats, when they used to hold that belief. Harry Truman was the one who enabled Israel's establishment.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | June 23, 2019 at 09:27 AM
MM, it’s not sudden. The Dems have for the most part hated Israe and embraced anti-semitism since st least the mid 1990’s.
Posted by: James D. | June 23, 2019 at 09:33 AM
Captain Hate,
I think book deals should be investigated. I firmly believe they are used as one of the methods of paying people off.
There was ZERO justification for the massive advances Michelle and Barack Obama got, and never mind Jim Acosta.
There was plenty of outrage here when I posted the news of Weissmann getting that book deal, but if you think that the press, who never bothered to wonder why ALL of the attorneys Mueller hired were democrats, will say anything, don't hold your breath.
I know EXACTLY how people in the Soviet Union felt trying to get news from behind the Iron Curtain. We are fortunate in the rise of the internet in that we can track this stuff without relying on the MSM.

Yeah, big grains of salt on that. Consumer Reports isn’t appreciably better, they went to hell in a hand basket when they stopped doing statistics on wash machines and injected themselves into political questions.

I know it's not really sudden, but WHY did they change? Who instituted this policy? Is it money from Qatar?

Jim - Just keep going with your Keto trial. Before Keto my BP was flirting with 150/90. Yesterday it was 128/72 after just 9 weeks of Keto eating.
If you like Big Mac hamburgers - this recipe is really good. (Only 2 net carbs) https://www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/big-mac-salad-cheeseburger-salad-low-carb-gluten-free/?fbclid=IwAR3nuFFF-w1VESTqRMSsl6yUPb6WFx952u_C878qlIo5QcwtmbKtPjZcXCc

Momto2,
Thanks for that recipe. I have been trying to convince my daughter to try keto, as she needs to lose about 20 pounds and has elevated cholesterol.
She's been doing calorie counting a la Weight Watchers but I think keto would help her more.
I need to scour around that site and find some recipes like that salad, so that she won't miss pasta. Because of the food budget I cannot run 2 separate diet plans.

Headline:Trump administration reviewing foreign money to US colleges
The U.S. Education Department has opened investigations into foreign funding at Georgetown University and Texas A&M University as part of a broader push to monitor international money flowing to American colleges.
Both universities are being ordered to disclose years of financial records amid concerns they have not fully reported their foreign gifts and contracts to the federal government, according to letters sent to the schools Thursday and obtained by The Associated Press.
The inquiries are part of a broader campaign to scrutinize foreign funding going to universities and to improve reporting by schools, according to a Trump administration official familiar with the effort.

The longer you stay on Keto, the easier it is. I tend to stay away from things like Keto bread, because it makes me crave french bread, altho I will say I love keto ice cream.

Jim keto is best effort, not torture.
To help though. Try to separate carbs from protein by an hour.
If I have an ice cream cone or something else, I’ll minimize protein until the body stops sending signals to store everything as fat.

henry,
Melinda and I have been noticing the number of money laundering arrests.
I wish someone would put up a web site that shows all of the revenue streams that the Left is losing. That foreign money to colleges is another one, along with all of the arrests in child porn and trafficking, the drug cartels, Planned Parenthood, etc.

Thanks for the excellent take on Gundy, Clarice. I bet the reception Sec. Perdue got for the USDA Kansas City plans may be a light precursor for the unfortunate adjustment to the greater DC home valuations you might be experience in the next few years. Looking at the housing market since the credit collapse, the loss of thousands of jobs in the financial biz, as management tries to maintain the pre-collapse pay scale, has undercut multiple markets as those ex-Manhattan management rotations stopped. The tax base has not been well managed by Blue Hell governments as they try and maintain past spending levels by rejiggering their millage methods.
This has yet to fully play out, but it is happening.

It always works in ripples, price points and associative costs weighing on every transaction. Macroeconomics appearing in pricing, every day. Some appear small in movement, whereas other locations it’s much more glaring. The “Nonstop Flights to Beijing” spoke and hub phenomena on housing seems to be the most glaring as their own credit collapse adjusts.
Glad your area has a built in replacement market, others aren’t so fortunate.

Trump was a gift to the moribund GOP and frankly one they didn't deserve. We are the ones who deserved Trump after being sold out by the ruling class. Both branches of the Uniparty are trying to smother that and keep it from going viral.
