Mueller obviously didn't investigate the Steele dossier - not it's origins, not the shady payments through Perkins Coie and Fusion GPS, and not the Russians who supposedly provided the information, possibly for payment. I think we can therefore conclude that he wasn't tasked to investigate the Steele dossier. He investigated the bogus claims within it, which was exactly the intent of the Clinton campaign, DNC, Obama administration, Steele, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, McCain and the entire left wing-NeverTrump axis.

Ultimately sleazy Bob had to conclude that they were all lies, either fed to Steele or simply made up, yet he never alluded that conclusion in his report. (He also didn't investigate the Blumenthal/Shearer dossier, which was likely the source of the material that needed laundering through Steele.)

Tom R

MJW @ 4:03

I figured that was the approach you would use.

Fact: The scope memo tasked Mueller with what to investigate.
fact: Nunes confirmed the previously redacted parts dealt with the Steele dossier.
Conclusion: The scope memo tasks Mueller to investigate the Steele dossier.

In his opening statement, Nunes clearly states that Mueller "debunked many of their favorite conspiracy theories" which is clearly referring to the Steele dossier.

Did you actually read the entire article? It clearly says in black and white that the scope memo tasked Mueller with investigating Manafort, Flynn and Papadoplous. I thought it was fairly obvious that the "(plant?)" parentheticals were my own addition. You are failing to account for that by the time Mueller was appointed Team Trump already knew Obama had been spying on him via the Page FISA warrant. I think its fairly safe to assume they wanted to know the full extent of everything and everyone involved in the spying. We now have reports that not only did Page have a FISA warrant on him but there are reports Manafort and Flynn did as well. Since I am 99.99% certain Rosenstein has been on Team Trump since Day 1, I think it makes perfect sense why he tasked Mueller to fully investigate them.

Narciso79

Exactly he took the dossier droppings as legitimate and proceeded onwards, he rarely let's theory get in the way of reality.

I hope you get the information you asked for.

Is it impossible that a non-ignorant, non-dishonest Nunes believes both the scope of the SC and that the Mueller Report w
as written with the intention of impeaching Trump?

Ext @4:21

That's a major flaw in your logic. How do you know for certain Mueller didn't investigate the Steele dossier and pass everything he collected to the DOJ & Horowitz/Durham? Keep in mind there are 12 redacted criminal referrals we still don't know any of the details on. My bet is Durham had plenty of evidence already on hand provided by Mueller for him to act on.

You guys keep ignoring the key fact that Mueller exonerated Trump of colluding with the Russians. How could Mueller do that without investigating every allegation in the Steele dossier and confirming every single one of them were 100% bullshit? That was the scope of his task from Rosenstein. Everything else related to the Steele dossier and FISA abuse is assigned to Horowitz and Durham.

It clearly says in black and white that the scope memo tasked Mueller with investigating Manafort, Flynn and Papadoplous. I thought it was fairly obvious that the "(plant?)" parentheticals were my own addition.

It was obvious the parentheticals were your own additions; I didn't suggest otherwise. But without them, nothing about the fact Mueller was tasked to investigate Manafort, Flynn, Page, and Papadoplous helps your case one whit. They were the obvious ones to investigate if Muller was working against Trump. (And even the obvious ones if Muller had been a neutral investigator, just after the truth.)

I read the entire article and watched the FOX News video. It provided no support for your earlier claims that Nunes revealed information which contradicted the belief that Mueller was out to get Trump. None.

Your most egregious misrepresentation was that Nunes reveled that Mueller was investigating the Steele Dossier. He said nothing of the sort. It was that assertion that prompted me to ask for quotes or links. I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something. I hadn't.

Nunes said, “And remember, I had these concerns that it was based upon the Steele dossier.” No one who speaks English could reasonably interpret that to mean Mueller was investigating the Steele dossier. If Mueller were investigating the dossier, rather than basing his investigation on it, why would Nunes be concerned? He'd be pleased.

Cybersecurity conference ditches headliner after complaints about his voting record on 'women's rights'

TechCrunch said its sources asked not to be named out of fear of retaliation, but the publication presented an analysis of Hurd's voting record showing "he has voted against a bill that would financially support women in STEM fields, voted in favor of allowing states to restrict access and coverage to abortions, and voted to defund Planned Parenthood."

Initially, a Black Hat spokesperson defended their decision to let Hurd speak, saying the congressman "has a strong background in computer science and information security and has served as an advocate for specific cybersecurity initiatives in Congress. He will offer the Black Hat audience a unique perspective of the InfoSec landscape and its effect on the government."

But social media went wild over the decision, and the event organizers ultimately caved to pressure.

Clintons' 'Mr. Fixer,' ally Sidney Blumenthal emerge on list of Russia collusion figures

This is an early piece (Rowan Scarborough - The Washington Times - Wednesday, January 31, 2018). Well done though, and gets a bit into Cody Shearer, who I believe Janet has mentioned had some connection to violent provocateurs during the 2016 campaign.

But several days after the Grassley-Graham letter was released, The Guardian published an article that said Mr. Shearer wrote his own Russia dossier on Mr. Trump. It said Mr. Steele handed it to the FBI in October 2016.

...

The Guardian wrote: “Unlike Steele, Shearer does not have a background in espionage, and his memo was initially viewed with skepticism, not least because he had shared it with select media organizations before the election.

However, The Guardian has been told that the FBI investigation is still “assessing details in the ‘Shearer memo’ and is pursuing intriguing leads.”

“One source with knowledge of the inquiry said the fact the FBI was still working on it suggested investigators had taken an aspect of it seriously,” the British newspaper reported.

A journalist decades ago, Mr. Shearer has delved into freelance foreign policy. His known incursions include Bosnia, where he tried to broker some sort of peace deal, though he wasn’t a U.S. official, and Libya, where he and Mr. Blumenthal supplied intelligence to Mrs. Clinton when she was secretary of state.

In 2015, National Review said of him, “Meet Cody Shearer, the Strangest Character in Hillary’s Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy.”

Mr. Shearer’s name also surfaced that year in hacked emails from Mr. Blumenthal during Mrs. Clinton’s tenure at the State Department.

ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative journalism outfit, described Mr. Shearer this way: “In one exchange in March 2013, Blumenthal emailed Drumheller, ‘Thanks. Can you send Libya report.’ Drumheller replied, ‘Here it is, pls do not share it with Cody. I don’t want “moin” [a Libyan] speculating on sources. It is on the Maghreb and Libya.’”

“Cody is Cody Shearer, a longtime Clinton family operative — his brother was an ambassador under Bill Clinton and his now-deceased sister was married to Clinton State Department official Strobe Talbott — who was in close contact with Blumenthal,” ProPublica reported.

From CTH in April regarding the 2nd scope memo.

The first redaction listed under “personal privacy” does not appear to represent an individual, rather it’s an organization. However, The second related redaction is a specific person, Michael Flynn Jr.

In combination with the October timing, the addition of Flynn Jr to the target list relates to the ongoing 2016/2017 investigation of his father, General Michael Flynn, for: (1) possible conspiracy with a foreign government; (2) unregistered lobbying; (3) materially false statements and omissions on 2017 FARA documents; and (4) lying to the FBI.

This October 20th, 2017, request from Weissmann and Mueller aligns with the time-frame were special counsel team lawyers Brandon L. Van Grack and Zainab N. Ahmad were prosecuting Michael Flynn and attempting to force him into a guilty plea.

Getting Rosenstein to authorize adding Mike Flynn Jr. to the target list (scope memo) meant the special counsel could threaten General Flynn with the indictment of his son as a co-conspirator tied to the Turkish lobbying issue (which they did) if he doesn’t agree to a plea. Remember: “jointly undertaken activity“.

The October 20th, 2017, expanded scope memo authorized Mueller to start demanding records, phones, electronic devices and other evidence from Mike Flynn Jr, and provided the leverage Weissmann wanted. After all, Mike Flynn Jr. had a four month old baby.

The amount of twisted pressure from this corrupt team of prosecutors is sickening. A month later, General Flynn was signing a plea agreement:
