I never knew this piece of D-Day trivia. From behind The Daily Torygraph paywall, so I will cut and paste:
"Two bizarre security incidents had particularly concerned the authorities and show how seriously efforts to deny the plan’s discovery by German spies had been taken.
In early 1944 codewords related to D-Day were revealed in the Telegraph’s crossword puzzle: Gold and Sword were dismissed as commonly-used crossword answers, but then more exotic words started to appear.
On May 22 came the clue ‘Red Indian on the Missouri (5)’. The answer: Omaha, codename for the beach to be taken by the 1st US Assault Division. Then, on May 27, came Overlord, the name for the entire Normandy campaign. Coincidence? Perhaps.
But on May 30 came Mulberry (the floating harbours used in the landings) and on June 1 the solution for 15 down was Neptune (the naval assaults onto the beaches). Alarm bells rang and MI5 visited Leonard Dawe, the Telegraph’s crossword compiler, who later said “they made me sweat”.
Dawe was headmaster of Strand School which had been evacuated from Tulse Hill in London to Effingham in Surrey. He used to ask the pupils for words to be used as solutions. The boys, habitually playing games with the American soldiers stationed nearby, had picked up some of the strange words used by the loose-lipped troops. “They turned me inside out,” Dawe later recalled, “but they eventually decided not to shoot [me] after all.”
I remember reading Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer and how ordinarily proper German officers and secretarial staff were having indiscriminate sex as Stalin's Red Army's approach to Hitler's bunker and their probable execution became imminent.
Do Blue Hell fiscal orgies mean they figure Trumps's Red Army is closing in? Or just red ink?
SBW, I do occasionally tilt at windmills, maybe not 10% of my social time though. What I've noticed is that my lefty acquaintances are simply no longer curious about opposing view points.
I take that as an indication that they have willingly chosen ideology over reason, as enough of their earlier questions/concerns showed some ability to remain open-minded. Those who never demonstrated a whiff of sense post-election are simply not worth the breath it takes to raise doubt. I prefer to expend my energies on the next generation. They need somewhere else to look when their parents are insane.

"French and the other self-appointed guardians of civility, then, should do us all a favor and drop the civic virtue act. They’re not disinterested guardians of our public institutions; they are actors, working in an industry that rewards them for dressing up in Roman Republican drag and reciting Cicero for the yokels. This is why Bill Kristol, another of the Never Trumpers, could raise money for his vanity website, The Bulwark, and why he could expect his new creation be lauded on CNN as “a conservative site unafraid to take on Trump,” even as the site was staffed by leftist millennials and dutifully followed progressive propaganda lines. Like anyone whose living depends on keeping on the right side of a leftist industry, they understood that there’s only so much you can say if you care about cashing a paycheck—especially when the president and leader of your own party won’t take your phone calls.
The Never Trumpers, of course, aren’t the first Americans to hide cold careerism behind a wall of virtue-signaling. It’s why so many in the professional punditry went the way of Never Trump: More than anything else, the decision to align oneself with a movement that, ontologically, vows to reject the president a priori, no matter what he might say or do, regardless of your own supposed political beliefs, is a way of affirming one’s professional class loyalties, thus ensuring that your progeny will still be accepted and acceptable at Yale."

The report came from unnamed sources but if Pelosi actually said she wants to see Trump in prison, I see that as a sign she knows several prominent Democrats are about to get in serious legal or political trouble over Spygate. She is just engaging in preemptive deceitful misinformation so that the Democrats can spin any Spygate revelation damaging to them as Trump being on a "witch hunt" to cover up his own crimes (which unhinged Progtard/SJWs still believe to be "The Truth").
Excellent speech indeed, Commanche Voter. I am going to try to pick up the YouTube vieo later as the ABC feed on Periscope picked up every breath he made, like they had put the mike in his nostrils.

I remember after my hernia surgery a few years ago several hours of anxiety and helplessness, and a bit of embarrassment, over that issue. So sorry to hear about the terrible accident involving our GREAT West Point Cadets. We mourn the loss of life and pray for the injured. God Bless them ALL!
Good luck with that, Buckeye. In my case it was outpatient surgery, so I was all set to go home, my escort home was in the waiting room, and then it was 2-3 hours of just waiting.
Ray was there in Normandy today and Trump recited pretty much the same narrative and went over to congratulate him. Those were some tough men to take the punishment of that landing and keep their courage.
Yale researchers have figured out how to catch and save Schrödinger’s famous cat, the symbol of quantum superposition and unpredictability, by anticipating its jumps and acting in real time to save it from proverbial doom. In the process, they overturn years of cornerstone dogma in quantum physics.
Now they've gone too far. Unless warp drives are a result of this.
They battled, not for control and domination, but for liberty, democracy, and self-rule. They pressed on for love and home and country, the main streets, the schoolyards, the churches and neighbors and families and communities that gave us men such as these. They were sustained by the confidence that America can do anything, because we are a noble nation, with a virtuous people, praying to a righteous God. The exceptional might came from a truly exceptional spirit. The abundance of courage came from an abundance of faith.
The great deeds of an army came from the great depths of their love as they confronted their fate, the Americans and the Allies placed themselves into the palm of God’s hand. The men behind will tell you that they are just the lucky ones, as one of them recently put it, “all the heroes are buried here.” But we know what these men did, we knew how brave they were. They came here and saved freedom and then they went home and showed us all what freedom is all about.
What is wrong with people that they cannot see what a good man he is? Why can't they see how much he has done for the country, and, in fact, the world, with no gain for himself? Why can't people see that he has sacrificed quite a lot to work the hardest I have ever seen any man work in the presidency?
It's so sad that there are so many haters in the country.
What is wrong with people that they cannot see what a good man he is?
It doesn't matter whether they see it or not. Anyone to the right of center is demonized. Even a squish like Romney, or an obviously decent if weak W. You can bet if, God forbid, Kasich had won the 2016 nomination he would have been the second coming of Hitler.
Re. Utes, it’s a model name of a Holden (a GM brand) low-ride pickup truck. Best compared with the old El Camino. Also used to denote low-SUV style vehicles from the same/similar platform as well.
Freedom has a steep price.

Anybody who has read Edward Gibbon’s famous book “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” had to be amazed that the most powerful empire on Earth at the time committed suicide “Through the insidious poison of free bread and circuses” as Edward Gibbon explained.

Good luck with that, Buckeye. In my case it was outpatient surgery, so I was all set to go home, my escort home was in the waiting room, and then it was 2-3 hours of just waiting.

Mexico has shut down their southern border so Guatemalans can't get in - and are stopping some of them who have already arrived.

Huh. I must have pre-flunked. I was informed pre-surgery that I would be. And was...
Still great to hear things went well.

Sandy,
In case you didn't see it:
Ray was there in Normandy today and Trump recited pretty much the same narrative and went over to congratulate him. Those were some tough men to take the punishment of that landing and keep their courage.

Yale researchers have figured out how to catch and save Schrödinger’s famous cat, the symbol of quantum superposition and unpredictability, by anticipating its jumps and acting in real time to save it from proverbial doom. In the process, they overturn years of cornerstone dogma in quantum physics.
Now they've gone too far. Unless warp drives are a result of this.

This:
I believe he almost choked up at one point.

What is wrong with people that they cannot see what a good man he is? Why can't they see how much he has done for the country, and, in fact, the world, with no gain for himself? Why can't people see that he has sacrificed quite a lot to work the hardest I have ever seen any man work in the presidency?
It's so sad that there are so many haters in the country.

henry,
As Feynman's was fond of saying:
"I think I can say that nobody understands Quantum Mechanics." So he evidently distinguished between being able to use a theory and understanding it.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | June 06, 2019 at 01:27 PM
JiB, that's the difference between an engineer and a theorist. ;)

Apparently Vox somehow induced YouTube to demonetize a bunch of content creators. Given the parties involved I assume it was for wrongthink.
Separately, Vox staff has apparently gone on strike.
