Very interesting that the cabal (i.e. Strzok, Page and company) would stay at the Corinthia since is nowhere near MI5 or even MI6 across the river.

Close to Whitehall, though:) But not Downing Street. Just down the way from Trafalgar Sq. I guess they taxi'd instead of walking.

James D.

I read that Paul Sperry piece about the Mueller investigation.

And, yes, my BP has gone up significantly. Mueller is unquestionably a monster, and a traitor, and in a sane world would find himself the target of
his own Nazi-esque tactics before being convicted and shipped off to a supermax prison for the rest of his life.

Jim SV,

It is the Corinthia, just down the street from Trafalgar near the Embankment.
Also, pretty pricey for a US Govt. expense account.

narciso,

That's the location of the old embassy. The new one is across the river near Vauxhall. Hakluyt is near the old embassy location. Not near that hotel. I know, since I spent many a day at the old embassy location.

I wonder how much robocalls add to phone carrier revenues. (In online ads, bots are more than half of ad revenues).

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on Thursday to allow phone carriers to block suspicious calls by default in an effort to bolster industry efforts to filter out robocalls and scammers.

Perhaps among the new money social climbing crowd.

Sidwell used to be a school where kids who were kicked out of the public Wilson school went. Now it's the school full of Democrat biggies and journalists' kids.
The truth is the area is full of highly competitive , very good private schools.

Ironic that the school is complaining about parent conduct when one of their teachers was engaged (IIRC twice) in terrible behavior to Trump officials.

Without a US, Europe, North Africa and Russia would still be controlled by Nazi Germany.

Without a US, most of Asia and the Pacific would still be controlled by an Imperial Japan.

We didn't supply all the manpower that helped defeat those scourges, but America's industrial might and natural resources ... our "Arsenal of Democracy" ... supplied most of the war materiel that our allies used to wage war, even before we officially entered the conflict.

Here is the college counseling my high schol offered.

1. Here's a list of colleges and their requirements.

3. Come pick up your SAT scores at the guidance office.
4. Scholarship applications are available for all state schools, both public and private. We have addresses if you want one for an out-of-state school.

That was it. It was up to US to do all the work of applying and getting in.

Regarding the Sperry oped, how would JOM respond if something like this occurred?

For a hypothetical Spygate investigation into the Obama administration's spying on Trump:

Durham's witness list, which grew to more than 500, targeted senior personnel in the DOJ, FBI & CIA, progressive journalists, progressive think tank analysts and Democrat congressional staffers. Witnesses were compelled to comply with more than 2,800 grand jury subpoenas and nearly 500 search-and-seizure warrants. Casting an even wider net, Durham also issued 230 orders for communications records and almost 50 orders authorizing use of “pen registers” – devices that record dialed numbers -- to collect phone records on individuals, most of whom turned out to be innocent.

IANAL or law enforcement professional but I would think if you are conducting a major investigation with major ramifications to the future of the country in order to determine if the POTUS and his senior officials violated numerous laws to spy on an opposing presidential campaign, the investigation into their alleged criminal actions should be extremely thorough.

fdcol 3:35: "Without a US, Europe, North Africa and Russia would still be controlled by Nazi Germany."
I dunno. I tend to think Russia would've whooped them. At an even higher cost than they paid which was high enough already. What happened in Russia was a weird historical happening. Even though the Commie overlords were incompetent, evil and vicious the Russian People over a period of some months just decided they were going to fight the Germans, not lay down.

Japan might have persisted and kept ill-gotten gains. Other than the US their was no large force available to fight back. Certainly the Chinese factions were spending all their time undercutting each other. My Indian colleague had a first name of "Rommel" because his father hated the Brits. I don't think India would have risen up to eject the Japanese. Australia and NZ populations too small. Brits busy in Europe.

Just one person's opinion.

MissMarple2

Marlene,

Sorry I can't help. My kids always got them so dirty I had to hand wash them!

jimmyk

Even though the Commie overlords were incompetent, evil and vicious the Russian People over a period of some months just decided they were going to fight the Germans, not lay down.

The Soviets had a large population to draw on for the military, and placed little value on their lives, so they probably would have defeated the Germans. But only defeated on the eastern front. It's not clear what would have happened in the west, but I can't imagine the Soviets making an effort to go on and liberate France. The Germans could have retreated from the east and consolidated gains in the west.

I'd say MJW's point applies to the premise more than "the question".

Narciso79

I was just guessing why they would be at those locations, I'm surprised they didnt stick the bill for claridges.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

Jim,

Who knows?

I think what the Soviets did was incredible. They moved whole factories to the East, and no doubt they might have eventually been able to produce enough on their own to push back Germany.

But time was an important factor, I think. And I personally don't think they would have had that opportunity without all the materiel that they got from us through Lend-Lease.

Without that, I don't think the Soviets would have had time to move their factories East and ramp up their own production, and launch their counter-offensives that bogged down Germany at Stalingrad, Leningrad, and Moscow. The USSR might have fallen.

Captain Hate

I've never believed the German conquests of Western Europe would've remained permanent. Maybe I'm wrong, and all this is hypothetical anyway, but I've always thought those countries were easier to overrun than to stay in charge of for a long period of time.

Dems claim no crisis at border but Border Patrol just reported that May alone, there were 144,258 apprehensions at the border, and those just the ones who were caught.
For comparison: number of troops incading France on D-Day and turned the tide of World War II was 156,000.

Narciso79

Well the Resistance was heavily influenced by the Cimmunists could they have crossed all the way through Germany without us forces.

The tregallis lovecraftian tale haf the British wizard defeating the nazis but the result was the Soviets took over Europe, this was apparently with the us not intervening.

Captain Hate

Stalin had no reason to go further west than Berlin. As it was they had to rotate troops back to the Soviet Union because they were starting to notice that even bombed out places in Germany were nicer than the workers paradise.

Narciso79

Could they have gotten there, with conrad stark serving as scientific commissar it would have been hard to get enough talented scientists, but any greater interlude would be problematic. Also there is the matter of the giant subs and the next generation jet aircraft.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

Just forcing the Nazis to devote many dozens of divisions and air power to the Western Front allowed the Soviets to continue to march toward Berlin.

Another time factor.

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

jimmyk
It's all hypothetical... but if the Russkies kept going after reaching the border (why wouldn't they?) would Germany still be hanging on to North Africa while drunken Russian soldiers were raping and bayoneting in the streets of Berlin?

James D.

Jim @ 4:06

Depends on what you mean by “without the US.”

If the US stayed totally out of the war and also provided no material support to Britain or to Russia, I have to think that the Brits would eventually have made some sort of peace with Hitler.

And the lack of US aid would have hurt Russia, too. Per Wikipedia, we sent 17.5 million tons of material to them, including over 400,000 trucks, 8,000 tanks. Without that aid, and with additional German forces that wouldn’t have been needed in North Africa (and later Italy and France), things would certainly have gone differently in the East.

fdcol63 🇺🇸

" ... we sent 17.5 million tons of material to them ..."

And that figure doesn't include the tonnage now sitting on the ocean floor, victims of enemy submarines.

Boris @ 4:16

I am fairly certain the certainty Trump supporters feel that members of the Obama criminal cabal are guilty of spying on Trump is matched by the certainty leftwingers felt when they were told by Democrats and the leftwing media that Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election away from Hillary.

I certainly did not believe the Democrat's allegations that Trump colluded with the Russians. I did not want the allegations to be true. Until all the facts were known there was uncertainty surrounding the validity of the allegations. Even though I did not believe them, there was a possibility the allegations were true. Thanks to a thorough investigation, I now know with 100% certainty Trump did not collude with the Russians. The keyword is "thorough". An investigation of that magnitude required thoroughness in order to prevent anyone from claiming a coverup, a whitewash, or that the investigators failed to follow all the leads.

Now that the Russian collusion investigation is over, I think it is both fair and necessary for the Democrats to undergo the same degree of thoroughness in the investigation into FISA abuse and spying on Trump that Trump and his team had to undergo.

jimmyk

if the Russkies kept going after reaching the border (why wouldn't they?)

My scenario was that they'd have been content to drive the Germans back to Germany, repossess Poland and control Eastern Europe (as they ended up doing anyway), and call it a day. But you're right, it's all speculation.

I think there's ample evidence that Eisenhower held up the Allied advance so the Soviets could take Berlin.

He knew it was gonna be Götterdämmerung, and figured the Soviets could suffer the casualties.

He also stayed south because there was real concern that Hitler would retreat and move his forces into the Bavarian Redoubt.

According to that detailed Daily Torygraph article today on the minutae of D-Day, Churhill interfered or tried to interfere in the D-Day preparations and strategy. He finally had to be called off by the King. He wanted to be on the Command ship with Bradely and was known kibitzer and patronizer of any strategy discussions.

I think the command finally relented and allowed him to come to France a few weeks after D-Day.
